That being said, the way Sal has treated my partner leaves much to be desired. I set up contact between Sal and my partner, and expressed the type of vehicle my partner was looking for, and left them to discuss. My partner called Sal, and after greetings were exchanged my partner noted Sal sounded off and asked if it was a bad time and Sal replied "well yeah I'm watching the game. Can I call you back" 5 minutes later texted my partner back "Hey bud my apologies I didn't realize you were Jamie's boyfriend I thought you were telemarketer you can give me a call back if you're available" He and my partner play phone tag for about a week as my partner was working crazy hours, but would always call Sal back once he realized he missed a call. January 2nd, Sal called my partner to check in, and left a voicemail. My partner calls him back a couple hours later after he got off work. Sal doesn't answer, but sends him a text of "I'll call you back" Well...it's been 3 months and we haven't heard a thing since. If The Car Consultants decided we weren't good enough clients from the get go, even though I've done business with Sal before, I wish he would've said something. Instead he left us in limbo, and made ME look like an idiot for recommending Car Consultants. Huge shoutout to Capital Toyota for helping us find my partner his dream car and treating us like our business was worth the effort.

Gave the Car Consultants a call and Sal found one for us at a Southern California Dealership in one day. Sal completed all the paperwork on line and arranged to have the vehicle transported to Morgan Hill by trailer. We met Sal at his office in Morgan Hill to take delivery. Excellent communication, service, and timely replies. I received a significant discount on the OTD price, even when including the BuySide Auto fee. On top of that, I NEVER had to step into a dealership, talk to a salesperson directly, spend hours playing the "let me ask my manager" game, or have to talk to a Finance manager and repeatedly say NO to unnecessary options. All communication was easily done through email and text, although phone and in-person contact was also available. Process starts with completing a convenient online request. From there, Kim contacted me to fully understand my wishlist, range of optional requirements, and any non-negotiables. After reaching out to their dealer network, within a day she provided a list of potential matches with estimated OTD prices, which included some in SoCal available for transfer to the Bay Area and cars still in production with estimated availability dates. I had a lot of questions and some requests and Kim was very responsive and instrumental in relaying them to the dealer and advocating for me. Even my request to remove all dealer installed options was negotiated by Kim and granted by the dealer with no hassle on my end. I paid the BuySide Auto fee to reserve the car for purchase and when the car was available I opted to pickup at their office in SF. Home delivery to SF is also currently no charge, while delivery outside of the city is available with a modest fee. Upon first contact, I asked if weekend pickup or delivery was available, since their normal hours are on weekdays. Kim made note of it and remembered my preference even after the sale was completed. Chris was able to make himself available for Saturday pickup! We took a walk around the car took a look inside. We spent no more than 10 minutes reviewing and signing paperwork, received my keys, and I was off with my brand new car! Both Kim and Chris were great to work with and I have no hesitation in working with them again for future car purchases.

We had the unfortunate…read moreexperience of having to visit this location not once, not twice, but three separate times because of repeated errors and negligence by the staff. On our first visit, we dealt with Juan, who is apparently a manager at this location--which, based on our experience, doesn't seem to mean much here. Juan told us that we only needed one legal document signed and provided no clear instructions on how the paperwork needed to be completed or signed. When we returned for the second time, we learned that Juan was actually supposed to provide us with an entire packet of documents and instructions necessary to complete the sale. Because we had not been given the correct information the first time, we were denied the ability to sell the vehicle yet again. Not only did this waste a significant amount of our time, but the delay also caused our original vehicle appraisal/offer to expire. That led to a third trip to this location, where we then had to spend another two hours having the vehicle reappraised and going through the entire selling process all over again--all because the process was mishandled from the beginning. The lack of communication, attention to detail, and accountability at this location was incredibly frustrating. You would expect significantly more competence from someone in a management position, but unfortunately that was not our experience. I would strongly recommend avoiding this particular CarMax if possible. Based on our experience, I would choose virtually any other CarMax location over this one.
