We were in Europe for a week. The evening meal at Carels was probably the best we had on the whole trip. The menu had many options from fish to fowl to beef that looked interesting, but there was no way to try them all. We chose a lamb roast dish and the mussels. The lamb was served with two sauces, an eggplant sauce and a cream (seafood based?) sauce. Somehow all of the pieces worked together to make some amazing flavors. The house brought a generous serving of the mussels, also quite tasty. We also ordered some bread, as we were starving and needed something to eat while the food was being prepared. The bread was some of the best I have ever tasted, very fresh with the perfect texture and just a taste of sourdough. After enjoying all of this food with a couple of Heineken cold drafts, we enjoyed the Mimi dessert...pistachio cake and honey with frozen yogourt and nuts on top. The service was very good as well. This place seems to be a local favorite, and I would recommend it to anyone looking for good food. read more
