It's great for getting to try a lot of things! The servers here work really hard, during the dinner rush there was only 2 of them, therefore be a little patient! The wait is totally worth. Also, make a reservation if you can, they are very popular. (It was packed and we arrived 20 minutes early for our table) We ordered oysters, lobster, seabass (whole), scallops, green salad, bread, and at the end, french coffee. The highlight of the entire dinner were the razor clams. Absolutely unbelievable and a must order if you ever visit and it's on the menu! The coffee was extremely dark and we didn't finish any of it. But, being American, we probably should've known better and researched before we ordered. The creme brûlée was also very enjoyable! (Side note: all the creme brûlées I had in Europe were pre-made and not hot when they came out. Europe tingz?) The bill didn't come out to be outrageous at all and basically all we ordered was seafood... how? All in all, the perfect dinner to end my birthday. Drovers Dog has opened very recently and I think it is nice that Amsterdam Oost is getting more cool spots lately. I think there used to be a shortage of nice places to hang out in Oost, but it is getting better. I also love that the brunch culture is getting more popular in Amsterdam these days! Drovers Dog looks very cool and gezellig. There is a lot of natural light thanks to the big windows, the bar and furniture are made of wood and there are little plants on the tables. Outside is quite a big terrace. I love the all day breakfast concept and it is very cool that this place is opened 'till 10 PM. After having a look at their menu I went to the bar to order my things. Unfortunately they told me that it was so busy that they were way behind on their orders and that they would take no orders for the next 20 minutes and that they were very sorry. We could order our drinks now and our food in 20 minutes.. Okay, well. That's okay, we were in no hurry. We ordered a banana chocolate smoothie and a strawberry and rose ice tea. The smoothie was very nice but the ice tea absolutely lacked flavour and was watery. I do not recommend it. After waiting 25 minutes I asked if it was possible to order our food. They told me that sadly I could only order wraps because they were out on the other food. (they were out on pastries as well.) I was quite disappointed because I had set my mind on the corn fritters but ok, lets have a wrap then. We ordered a Serrano ham wrap and I choose the spicy mayonnaise to go with it and a grilled chicken wrap with hummus. I also ordered a flat white. So.. it was 1.30PM and they were already out of food. That's not really good in your opening weekend, after being featured in 'Het Parool', right? The flat white was really nice. Great coffee. The wraps weren't very special though. It tasted alright I guess but I expected a lot more of this. It also was my only option. When we came in there were people eating corn fritters, burgers, eggs benedict...and all I got was a not-so-special wrap?? mehhh. The experience was not as pleasant as I expected. It all seemed very unprofessional. The waitress was constantly searching for the right tables, service was very slow, we had to wait long and they were out of almost everything, Hopefully these were all beginners problems. I will go back in a few months to see if they have improved,. I want to be positive here! I do think this place has potential so that's why I give 3 stars.

Fyi...this bakery cafe far exceeds Le Pain Quotidien and shames Le Madeleine versions that exist in the States.

Tucked into Park Frankendael in East Amsterdam, De Kas occupies a former municipal greenhouse built in 1927 to grow plants for the city's parks. The vast glass structure feels like a high-tech agricultural experiment refined into an elegant restaurant, with daylight pouring across the dining room and greenery visible all around. Its dramatic scale, working greenhouse roots, and views into the garden keep the architecture connected to the food. The result is inventive, environmentally thoughtful, and distinctly Dutch. During our late lunch, a nearby school let out, and streams of happy young people passed the restaurant on foot and bicycle. That everyday scene is one of my strongest memories of the entire experience, and the steady flow of bicycles defined the atmosphere as much as the building itself. We sat inside this luminous greenhouse while young Dutch people crossed the park around us, giving the meal a genuine sense of place. The restaurant felt local, sophisticated, and fully connected to the neighborhood. Beyond the glass walls, this was a completely different Amsterdam from the dense canal neighborhoods most visitors know first. De Kas delivered a destination meal in the middle of everyday East Amsterdam, and that combination made my growing fantasy of living there feel surprisingly plausible. Although I can no longer name the individual courses, I remember the food clearly in the ways that matter: fresh, delicious, and deeply enjoyable from beginning to end. The vegetables had real presence, and each plate tasted consistent with the agricultural world surrounding our table. The meal felt composed, carefully paced, and alive with the kind of brightness you hope for when produce sits at the center of the experience. I left satisfied and energized, which is an unusual achievement for a substantial lunch. Underneath that freshness is a remarkably concrete growing system. De Kas cultivates around 300 varieties of vegetables, herbs, and fruits in Amsterdam and the Beemster, then harvests them close to the moment they enter the kitchen. The changing garden shapes the menu and gives vegetables a central role throughout the meal, allowing the seasons to determine what appears on the table. Here, the phrase farm to table describes the restaurant's actual daily logistics, visible in the garden, the kitchen, and the food. Ultimately, De Kas captured so much of what I loved about Amsterdam in one afternoon. At the most basic level, this place is incredibly cool: a delicious restaurant in a soaring glass building, surrounded by gardens and ordinary city life. Its Michelin Star and Green Star make complete sense, while watching people move through the park made it easy to imagine living here and raising children within that rhythm. The amouse bouches before the main courses were fantastic, ranging from the tapioca chip with celery dip which was A+, the couple of vegetarian wraps, the hot seared scallop add-on, the broth, along with the sourdough bread with mushroom infused whipped butter. Each of the courses were meticulously presented and the flavors were all top notch. Loved the light meats, including the perfectly cooked fish course. Despite having so many vegetables, I was actually pretty full that I could only do 1 instead of the 2 desserts! The meal ended off with a sorbet which was fantastic! The menu offers burgers, ribs, fish, and daily stampot. They also had ceviche and steak tartare on the menu. After a though choice between the Mojo burger and steak tartare, I ordered the steak tartare as a main course. It came with fries and mayo, you can replace the fries with oven potatoes. The small version of the steak is without fries. The steak tartare was not made according to Chef Robuchon's recipe, but was nonetheless quite good. It was finely minced and seasoned well with what I would call a sauce. Unfortunately, it was not served with a raw egg on top. It was plated in a very pretty way, with some salad and mini tomatoes on top. The place also had a little swoosh of dragon mayonnaise, which I found tasted good and paired well with the steak. There could have been a bit more of it :) The service was very good, attentive and pleasant. There is quite a bit of beer to chose from, but one can opt for some G&T's as well. My final note is a personal one. The place is a bit too far if you have to come from the centre or western neighbourhoods of the city. Yes, I guess that might sound a tad spoiled, but I am putting it out there. I can see how this would be a great local spot, though. Also, they have a terrace next to the water, which I imagine is absolutely lovely in the summer.
