They claim to have the best chicken in town, I believe that may be the truth! Super friendly and accommodating staff. We grabbed menus and, before we could crack them open, he was back with English menus - something must have given us away as being tourists. ; ) We opted for a table outside. I started with Bobby's gin - with closed pushed into orange slices and cinnamon stick added, it's amazingly refreshing & not terribly priced. BONUS: paper staw Of course, we had to get bitterballen. Say what you will, a hefty dose of mustard and these lil balls are the perfect sidekick for a brew. I went with the chicken and waffle. The sweet waffle paired nicely with the savory chicken. Other dishes at our table: sausage, schnitzel and fries... plus a few beers. I'd suggest getting the house recommendation of half chicken... it smells amazing and was being devoured by regulars all around us. The place was hopping - the line for the toilet was longer than the wait for our food. I was Amsterdam for business and went out for a stroll and dinner. This place caught my eye on Yelp and it was excellent! It is small bar type atmosphere with a covered outdoor area. There were a lot of people smoking outside so I decided to sit inside. The menu was in Dutch, but the waiter kindly brought over a food and drink menu in English. I had read that the roasted chicken was the way to go, so I jumped on it. I also couldn't pass up the bittenballen (sp?). The roasted chicken came with three sauces with increasing spice intensity. It was super moist, well seasoned, and easy to eat! I loved it more than any roast chicken I have had to date. I would recommend this place if you are looking for a casual night out in Amsterdam. read more

Wow this place was so awesome. Stopped in here thinking we would just have a beer and maybe a snack, but ended up staying for hours. A very lively atmosphere with people gathering at tables both outside and inside. Their beer selection was excellent and not very expensive. I honestly forget which two or three I had, but they were all unique in their own way. If you love fries but want something to fill you up a little more, get the pulled pork fries with the side of frittesauce. It is an absolute game changer. This place is farther away from most other attractions in Amsterdam than I was used to, but it was worth the trip while being in the area! read more

Feeling a little jet lagged on my first day in Amsterdam, I sojourned from the hotel and found this little beer garden about 1/2 a mile from where I was staying. What a find. The local beers were exactly what you would expect from a Dutch beer garden - but the chicken, worth the trip. I did a half roasted chicken (with fries) and this was easily the best chicken I've ever ordered in a restaurant - anywhere. Cooked perfectly - it arrived at the table juicy and had a peppery smell. The spicing was a perfect mix of pepper, garlic - and I think a touch of curry (they wouldn't tell me). I am going to spend the next 6 months here at home trying to recreate the dish. A proper watering hole with outdoor picnic table style seating and an interesting variety of beers and food. This my first time in Amsterdam, I arrived in a state of severe jet lag after ditching my wife and daughter who were perusing make-up stores. Promptly spent a good hour and half thoroughly enjoying a couple of glasses of Brugse Zot. Upon first sip said to myself, DAMN THAT'S GOOD. Ordered a melted cheese and ham sandwich on some kind of thick bread that wasn't the white or wheat choice (OK, jet lagged I deferred to the easiest and unknown choice). Good move. There are a number of joints along this street that all are receiving attention and it's clear De Biertuin is a favorite in the neighborhood. A fine, proper place to quaff a few beers in the warm summer sun, and the kind of place a Yank like myself hopes to find in a European town. I like this place, I think I'll come back, when my brain catches up with my sleep cycle and I can enjoy it even more. Thanks DB for welcoming a weary traveler and setting me off on what was to be a world class two hour nap at my airbnb joint right across the street. For you travelers, great park right across the street, Metro service not far, all the places you need if you're staying in this part of town. Tip of U.S. visitors as appears quite a few have checked in here. The locals will already know or just think that's the way it is, but the bang for your Euro is good here. Two exceptional beers and a great sandwich set me back only 13 euro which I think is an amazing bargain. I plan to come back once my jet lagged brain catches up with my body. Several of the other beers available deserve to be sampled. read more

I was in Amsterdam for 2-weeks doing a training at KIT. With only an hour lunch break, I was happy to find this sweet beer bar so close to my building. I was hoping to come by on a nice day, but sadly it was raining so I had to sit inside instead of on their beautiful patio. I came in on a Monday at noon and was seated immediately. The reviews mentioned that their burgers were good, but I had been to The Butcher the night before so I wasn't really in the burger mood. Instead, I decided to go with a wildcard pick and get their beef burrito. As I waited for my food, I noticed that all the plates coming out were burgers. I started questioning my choice. I noticed a few other people who arrived after me get their food first and started to become really curious about the burrito. This was a very different type of burrito for me. Interestingly, the burrito was toasted, topped with sesame seeds, and filled with meat and corn. It was served with sour cream, a red salsa, and piece of lettuce (wasn't sure how to use the piece of lettuce--so I wrapped it around the burrito like a spring roll). In fact, it did kind of taste like a spring roll to me. There was also a side of chips covered in some melted cheese and guacamole. The cheese had gotten hard on the chips because of the cool guac, so I'm not sure if that was the best choice. The meat was tender and flavorful In retrospect, I probably should have ordered the burger. I think I'm giving 3 stars because I'm not sure if I would call this a burrito. It sort of felt like it was missing beans or chile relleno to have a more authentic Mexican flavor. Overall, service was good and I acknowledge that maybe my standards for Mexican food after living in San Diego are a bit extreme. I wanted to come back and try their burger to boost this review but I never got a chance. Too long? - Solid beer list and nicely decorated beer garden. - Burgers seemed to be popular here, but I ordered a beef burrito, which was good but didn't really taste like a burrito to me. read more

Tried Delirium beer, was so good, had to have 2. Service was slow, but they were busy with a men's rugby team from the states. Let's start Yelping too ！ De Biertuin - I've been wanting to visit this place for so long after it has been reviewed by Het Parool to have the best burger in town. So my expectations were obviously high... A tad too high perhaps. Let's start with the burger then. Visually: the burger looks very American. Sesame bun, patty royally topped with sauces, veggies and pickles. Served together with fries, salad, mayonnaise and apple sauce. Looks very appetizing! Taste: fries were still in their skins, that's how I like it and it's crispy too! The burger was tasty, had a good combination of sauces and toppings on the patty. Patty itself was good too! Juicy and it has this nice flame grill flavour. But I'm just rating it above-average. The bun/patty ratio is a bit off. The patty is way too small and the bun far too big and soft to fully enjoy it. I personally think GBK in the UK has the best burger ever... Change the burger's patty/bun ratio and sizes towards GBK's and De Biertuin might have the best burger in Holland! We also had the grilled chicken. Same setup of the plate as the burger. Looks great too and very appealing. Unfortunately the chicken was too dry. It doesn't matter how great it was marinaded (really great!), this doesn't make up for the dryness. Considering the selection of beers they have, the setting, great atmosphere, kind of food and friendly waiters, this is a great place for hanging with a bunch of friends. I'm yo-yoing between 3 or 4 stars. Ps. We found a hair in our fries... Gross... Let's give it 3 stars for now! read more

I woke up hungry, hungry for learning.. After getting my education on, at the Tropenmuseum, I was hungry again, but this time, the regular kind. "Biertuin" was across the street. And so I walked in... The first thing you notice about the place is that it works really well on bright summer days (sitting outside) or for evening drinks. The staff was really helpful but I would still prefer a wider selection for lunch. Not beers though, the list was endless.. After what seemed like an eternity (I have to admit that the fact that I skipped breakfast also influenced how I experienced time passing), food arrived! Delicious! Very good burgers with an amazing sauce. They come with salad and side fries. I would just say to take it easy on those red cabbages, but everything else was great. Especially those fries, damn they're good! Something that's not so common, but certainly welcome, wet mini-towels provided with cutlery! This place has a few elements going against it (typical Dutch service with no smile) but somehow pulls ahead for a win. The food is really good as people have discussed. We noticed that the lunch menu was a lot cheaper then the dinner prices. So we gave it a whirl and it was well worth it. Great burger and great pulled pork. Super fries and a fresh salad. This place could warrant five stars if the service was more friendly. But if you are in your own world with friends, it's all about the product. read more

The portions are tiny and seating is cramped. My schnitzel was expensive and came with no sides, just a giant plop of fried veal that was not great tasting. My husbands chicken and waffle was disappointing, but my brothers half chicken as recommended by the server was delicious. If you are into beer and want to have drinks with friends 'De Biertuin' (beer garden) might just be one of the best options in Amsterdam. It is not in the middle of the city center but often still crowded and that is because it's so awesome. They have so many beers here! All kinds from everywhere. Quite a few on tap and lots of them by bottle, there is something for everyone. This place is so lovely in the summer, when you can sit outside at the big tables, it really reminds of a German Biergarten. When the weather is getting colder you can decide to sit inside, where it is also very nice and cozy. De Biertuin has all kinds of food as well. You can have lunch or dinner here or have a few bites with your beers. If you're with a group op people and a few might not like beer, no worries, there are other drinks as well! I really love this place. If you haven't been here yet, go go go! Before the summer is gone and you have to wait another year to enjoy the garden! read more

Living basically next to the Biertuin is a bless. It is one of those places you can always go to for a tea, coffee, lunch, bite or -wait ofcourse!- beer. Not a pint lover, but the Chateau Neubourg is a recommendation for a wine-drinking girl like moi. It's told that they serve the best burger in town, so defo go and check that out. The terrace outside is always crowded, and despite the heater, can get a little chilly at night. Waiters are bullshit proof and happy to help you find your perfect match in beer. The Caesar salad and sweet potato fries were good but nothing spectacular. Wished the fries were a little sweeter tasting but that can be a drawback for some ppl. Went here last Friday. I live quite close by but had never been. It's always crowded at De Biertuin and we had to wait about 20 mins for a spot. I like how they offer to get you a drink whilst you're waiting (and put it on your tap of course) We sat down on one of the benches outside, with four other people sharing our table. You have to be in a mood for a place like this. Pick a different place for conversations you'd rather not want to be heard by strangers sitting next to you :) I ordered fish&chips. The fish looked really tasty but was a bit tasteless to my taste (see what I'm doing here? ;-) ) Had to add quite some vinegar, salt, pepper and lemon. Could have been better. Liked the chips. The salad could have been a bit more original. My company ordered the chicken and they liked it very much! read more
