Good location and people watching. Near a busy area with lots to see within walking distance. Was surprised when we walked up because there were many nearby places that were busy and this place..... absolutely empty. Scary. We sat down anyways and chose a table outside to watch the show of life. Beer was good. Had to try the local staple, bitterballen, and was not impressed. Lacked flavor and half of them were empty. We were amazed on how one could fry something like this and it be empty, yet it keeps it outer shell intact while being empty inside. Very odd. Double burger helped this place out but it wasn't a home run. Fries were just ok. I wouldn't eat here again but may have a beer here for the people watching. Oh well. read more

My favorite spot in Amsterdam hands down. It is smack in the middle of the neighborhood surrounded by canals, bikes, you know beautiful Amsterdam. This place brews its own and you can't go wrong ordering any of their drafts which can be: Witte Antonia, De Blonde Barbier, or the De Manke Monnik. You can try them starting with the Antonia and work your way to the Manke or the other way around (either way it will be a pleasant day). The bar food is legit, I had raw sausage Ossenworst, Huisgemaakt Bierbrood (beer bread), and Bitterballen (toasty croquet made with beef). Have a seat outside facing the canal which allows for a delightful people watching view and relax. read more

Good spot with nice atmosphere in center of Amsterdam near by De Waag (Nieuwmarkt). As soon as you enter the brewery you immediately could get smell of bread. We think that they use it in brewery process. They have 3 all season beers and some types of seasoned beers. We've tried one of them and it was pretty good taste. Also we've ordered here basket of breads with some type of garlic butters. It was good experience. Never tried before bread and beer together :) read more

This little restaurant was the first place we sat down to eat at when we got to Amsterdam and it did not disappoint. It was a super cute restaurant with good food and beer. It was also very cheap for the amount of food we got! We tried the Oma Bob's Croquettes which were a perfect appetizer and went really well with the yellow mustard given. My friends had a couple of the burgers and panini's, they said they were delicious. I had the tomato soup, which was a perfect amount for me and warmed me up on the semi-chilly day we had there. One thing to remember is that it's hard to split checks in Europe, they are usually pretty resistant so when we tried paying separately they did not want to and we ended up having one person pay the total and we gave her the money. read more

I went back here to try the De Bekeerde Suster burger since I'd already tried their cheeseburger. It's basically a cheeseburger with bacon and honey mustard mayonnaise. With a glass of Manke Monnick I had all I needed for a good meal. The bun was crispier than I expected but it actually tasted great. The meat was also more cooked than I like. It's great to have a full service bar that has liquor, a good selection of beers and an actually decent selection of food on their menu. read more

I stopped here on my first trip ever to Amsterdam. Immediately the service from the bartender was friendly and warm. They had my favorite style of beers on tap, and when I asked for a recommendation on a burger, the bartender did not steer me wrong with the chicken burger. Plus, they have free Wi-Fi! The main claim to fame of this establishment - located by the Niewmarkt - is that it's Amsterdam's only brewpub, so it's worth a visit on those grounds alone. It's a fairly classic Ducth style bar, with a reasonably selection of both beers and nibbles, and decent ambience. Service can be a little on the slow side though. read more

This place is absolutely brilliant! Found it via Yelp, went to have a look and to try their local beers - both the white and blonde were brilliant, and I got a first taste of their new Amsterdam ale. The owner was most engaging and have me a private tour of the brewery and the history of the area. I didn't try the food, but it looked great, and I loved the decor (beer related of course) and laid back atmosphere. A must for any beer fan. read more

I was a huge fan of this place. It has a welcoming front and was a very comfortable pub. The bartender was quite funny, good natured and talkative which is a bit rare in Amsterdam. He recommended a few beers to us and let us taste some. We also ordered dinner. I got the goulash and my friend got the pork satay/skewers and both were delicious. Not an ounce of fat on either of the meat dishes and fantastic flavor. It was so good I had to eat the whole thing and forgo another beer. One of the best meals we have had here. I would love to see a little more beer selection here, not that it was bad, just would have liked to have more to have the option of.
