All of the things I have read are exactly what happened to me. The price keep going up up and up right from day one. You make your deposit and are told you have 24 hours to cancel to get your money back. By the time your driver arrives to inventory your time is up. Of course the price starts to rise at inventory time​.​ your stuff is held hostage on the truck if you do not continue to pay their demands! Thousands of dollars later you finally get your Stuff with no recourse but to sue. which they are quick to remind you that you signed the contract and all this stuff was in that contract!! Carefree Movers phone number is the same as Atlantic Movers in Boca Raton Florida and they are a broker company They are scammers. Atlantic Movers gives you a binding estimate and someone from (Carefree Movers) calls the day of your move and charges you thousands more to be able to move same day. And you have no choice because you have to be out of your home that day or pay more money. I was scammed in August 2022 in the amount of almost $4000.00. Don't deal with either. I would give a lower score if I could. among the things they lost/misplaced or stole was a rocking chair my grandfather made. it was impossible to reach a human being to try and get this resolved. the BBB could do nothing except record my complaint and the Attorney General did nothing. please do not use this company if you value your belongings. also they took two months to deliver our belongings. read more

We may have grounds for a class action lawsuit. I worked with a moving company (Allegiance Moving & Storage) to transport my life from the West Coast to the Midwest (returning to look after my elderly parents); they subcontracted with CareFree Movers Inc. (out of Ames, Iowa). Everything had gone well with my move planning until CareFree got involved - and this is the reason I am warning the public not to use them. I was truthful to the last item on my bill of lading (every box and object accounted for) and yet, when CareFree arrived late on my loading date, they scanned my items and declared that I needed more space than I had been quoted. In truth, I had removed items (i.e., all of my standing lamps) from the ship and was coming in under the space required. A production was made of taking a video of my items and then holding me and my things hostage (refusing to load anything) until a new bill of lading and additional charges could be set. At the last moment with no options, CareFree Movers added approximately $1,300 dollars to my moving charges and demanded I pay half before they put anything on the truck. Shocked and desperate with no backup plan, I agreed/signed and my items were loaded. Reaching out to the original broker/moving company, I shared my story and they pulled the CareFree bill of lading, telling me that (according to that inventory), I had increased my move. CareFree claims that it has a proprietary video estimation software and an expert that can recalibrate the load, they explained, setting the stage for me to accept their bill of lading as accurate. Reviewing the BOL, however, revealed that CareFree had duplicated my largest item (a china hutch) and charged me for transport of two loveseats (and I don't own a loveseat; I had two armchairs in the move). The inaccuracies went on and on in a long list of duplications and mismeasurements (UHaul's medium boxes were apparently too large for medium boxes - you know, the ones that have "medium" and the dimensions printed directly on the cardboard) that proved their "expert" review to be nothing more than part of a shakedown (culminating in a request to have the balance ready in cash at delivery). (It has been two weeks with no word from CareFree about the delivery of my things. Calls to the customer service number receive a message that Customer Service is out of the office; I reached out to Allegiance to coordinate an update and they cannot reach Dispatch. Isn't it odd that a local AND interstate trucking company would not have active customer service or dispatch? Hard to correct a falsified bill of lading or verify it with a rewatch of the video used for estimation when no one's in the office.) As I'd signed the BOL, there was nothing the coordinating moving company could do, but I encouraged them to never use Carefree again, especially for service folk and older civilians. Sometimes, you pay a lot for hard lessons but, as a director on the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline with ties to the Military & Veterans Crisis Line, this is the kind of extortion that inspires people to call us - swindled out of a portion of their savings and ruining their fresh starts. I am reaching out to my professional contacts nationwide and on social media to put CareFree Movers on the radar for people to NOT engage for any reason, especially in support of those who may be vulnerable to their scamming tactics. Additional review sites such as the BBB and CarrierSource reveal that this is a common practice for CareFree, and there may be grounds for a class action lawsuit. "CareFree" is a good name for this outfit ... they don't care anything for you, your circumstances, or fair business practices. Protect yourself; use someone else and, if you're making a cross-country move and a subcontract is needed, make it clear to the coordinator that you will work with reputable companies only. read more

They are totally unprofessional. They play a gimmick by booking at low prices and then start raising prices when comes to picking up the stuff. Once shipped, customer care doesn't know about the location of the shipment and delivers in 6-8 weeks. They got a contract with Olympus Relocation LLC and a subcontract was given to Carefree Movers Inc. When I called Carefree Movers, each week, the answer was-it is in a safe house, please call next week for an update and you are not the only person we have to move stuff, it will take time. This company held our belongings hostage for several months with no information about our delivery date or the location of our load. Our items were loaded up on 5/27 and we were guaranteed a delivery date of 6/25 and our belongings did not arrive until 7pm on 8/17. There were no updates about when our stuff was coming or where it was exactly when I called (frequently). They were dishonest about their guarantee (30 business days) until after our belongings were missing for over one month. When our belongings did arrive, there were several items missing, even more items that were severely damaged, boxes smashed, tape ripped open, boxes not secure, and chunks cut out of the upholstery. Items that were wrapped up in moving blankets and bubble wrap upon pick up arrived unwrapped and damaged. They were dishonest, did not uphold their contractual agreement and were careless with our belongings. read more

Run from this business! they are horrible and will add additional stress to your life with your move. the lead came to our home walked and video taped the items in the house and then left saying they had to get supplies . then we get a phone call saying it was $8000 more. we then get another call saying they really underestimated the amount of our furniture and added another $7000. at that point they have you your almost all packed and ready to close and move 1400 miles what can you do? a real bait and switch move by them. we then received a call from the movers and they needed $3500 more immediately to get our furniture delivered. they demanded cash or Zelle. I explained I was driving at that moment and would be able to send money in one hr. they called 10 times in that hr to see if I had sent the money or not. sounded just like a scam. please avoid this company unless you want more stress in your move. we have one broken electric recliner and brand new furniture that is scratched badly. read more

This was the worst companies I've ever encountered in my life, it all started with the original company which was called "Dougherty Brothers" who we originally set up the move they promised a price of $6K, from Fort Pierce, Florida, to Las Vegas, Nevada, they broke payments in three installments, first before the move started which we complied, after money sent we were informed that the price would be allot more because boxes larger than they expected. So I said fine, just give us our money back and I'll move myself with a Uhaul, they stated would not give it back, so I decided to move forward with the existing furniture and rented a Uhaul for all the box goods. Now enters "Carefree Movers", "Dougherty Brothers", turned the contract to this company, they demanded we give them a money order so we ran to bank and paid another $2K. The two gentleman were very good and loaded our valued furniture with care and proper packing, they made goods fit into our portion of the 40 footer trailer. Now the furniture is on the way and told it should arrive in Las Vegas in two weeks, this was Feb. 14, 2023. Loaded up all my boxes in our Uhaul and we were Westward bound, we arrived on Feb. 16, 2023, we started calling on status of Feb. 21,2023. Careless Movers had no idea where our furniture was, so we kept calling everyday until Mar. 14, 2023, it arrived with a driver but no backup help, which we did have heavy wood furniture so we waited until some local help was hired. Refused to unload our goods until they had cash in hands, so we gave the final payment. Now the broken furniture started coming off the truck, clearly could see that our furniture had not been secured properly either in the truck or some other site for storage or that it had it been damaged on purpose? Master bedroom king size headboard with holes punched through it, entertainment centers where both piers had holes smashed, bedroom dresser where base broken, china cabinet with back mirrors smashed, dining room chairs with legs broken off, yet they could not supply the legs, large pictures where frames cracked and broken, large screen tv where box smashed but tv still good however legs taken and carpet cleaner with top soap canister taken. This was denoted on inventory sheets by driver, he kept telling us to file a claim. Claim filed with pictures and prices purchased as well as weight, after over a month the claims company come with a settlement letter for $85, this would not cover one dining room chair, so I contact claims again and file forms again and settlement price has been raised to $125, still not covering a dining room chair. Originally told furniture covered for up $10K, by "Dougherty Brothers", but now "Careless Movers", say 40 cents on the pound. This is a scam and these Companies need to be held responsible for damages done. Either they made right by fixing or compensating us, or I will take them to small claim court based on their negligence. Step up to plate "Carefree Movers", and do what is right or get out of the moving business that clearly you have a careless and unprofessional attitude to addressing your customers. read more

It has been 1 year now and I still have not received my household belongings. My entire household has been stolen by these swindlers. I still cannot understand why nothing has been done to stop these thieves! This is a network of scammers and thieves working state to state and along the way buying and selling loads of transported property that they sift through and take of whatever they desire. They set people up and prey upon them. These people are the scum of the earth DO NOT fall for their lies and get scammed out of everything like I did. They will show up to your home in an unmarked or stolen rental truck. In my case it was an Enterprise rental truck. There will be 1 person in a truck who demands payment before they agree to unload your things and then when you ask where is the helper to unload your things, they will tell you that they are close by and they will call them once payment is made in full. I am so happy that I did not fall for this. HOWEVER, I had to accept the fact that I would never see my belongings again. I have had to start my life all over again because EVERYTHING I owned was stolen. My custom wood furniture from overseas, brand new front loading digital washer and dryer, beds, dressers, armoires, appliances, dishes, cooking utensils, silver ware, glasses, linens, clothes, photos, home accessories and decorations etc. EVERYTHING! Cherished family heirlooms as well. It's truly been difficult, but by the grace of The Most High Yah I have slowly begun to rebuild my life. read more

I moved cross country from Phoenix to Nashville. They didn't show up until 8 PM the night before my family was to drive to Tennessee. The head guy walked with me through the house and videotaped everything there was to move and then went out to his truck. Came back into the house and demanded an additional $2400. He claimed he "inventoried" everything, and had punched it into some sort of software which dictated the price increase. The entire timeframe from videotaping the house to when he came in demanding more money, took all of about 10 minutes (I hate to call anyone a liar, but when the shoe fits). We were held hostage because we had to leave the next morning to get to new jobs. By no exaggeration, every single piece of furniture was damaged. Anywhere from minor scuffs and scratches to outright destroyed. I had two pieces of solid wood furniture from my mother (deceased). One piece broke down into four pieces, only one of the four pieces made it to Nashville. The 2nd piece was a solid wood desk with a drawer, the drawer is gone. They packed an antique mirror into a "mirror kit box", along with another mirror, and a pieces of wall art. All without any cushion in between items, and they didn't even bother to use the corner protectors that came with the kit. My entertainment center had deep gouges all around one end, and the other end was bashed so hard it separated from the unit. Multiple items (including the solid wood desk from my mother) had not been wrapped and head deep gouges where it appeared to have been dragged across the asphalt or the floor of the moving truck. Unfortunately you can't give them a zero. I had these people load my items in Greenwoo, Indiana on May 5th, here we are 2 weeks later May 22 and still its "in transit " ! Yes they are completely carefree with your items as you have a anxiety attack every day wondering what tour your items went on that takes two weeks to get to you. I have a small business and everything for that business is on the back of that truck! I get to watch my small business I worked so hard to build sink into the ground! They are literally putting me out of business and all they say for over a week now is it's "in transit "! Had I had known this company was going to take their sweet time, for the amount of money already paid which kept going up, we could have rented some people, a truck, and flew them back to Indiana and we still have MORE to pay upon arrival. Are they giving me an "I'm sorry we are ruining your life discount"? Oh absolutely NOT, they will want probably more money than expected because they took my stuff on vacation carefree! This is a big mistake so please learn from my mistake. I'm trying to figure out if I can report it stolen at this point.
