The best kept secret in the Willamette Valley! If it's the wine you're after, go no further. Don't be surprised if owners Dan or Nancy Chapel are the ones pouring from their great variety of Pinot Noirs. The Bard Chard and Blush Rose are a good start, but if it's the reds you crave, you'll crave all of their reds. Katrina and Scott are always helpful and fun to talk to, and very knowledgeable. It's so hard to choose from the different combinations of clones, all estate grown, so we are always tempted to buy one of each. The prices for the wines (deserving of Oregon Winery of the year in 2020) are outrageously affordable, currently $40/bottle for the estate's best. With it's unique micro-climate, the vineyard overlooks Marys Peak adding to the ambience of the tasting room and deck. Our dogs have always been welcome!. Summer music on Friday nights adds to the experience which is always laid back and chill. We absolutely LOVE this place!! Dan the owner is just the nicest and most interesting guy you might ever meet!! He has a great story about how he came to be in Oregon with a winery. The cherry on top is his wine is delicious!! I loved his Pinot Gris, rose and blush and my husband loved his "Dijon" Pinot noir. It's super easy to get to and a beautiful drive. It's 15-20 minutes to Corvallis which is great for us since our son is at OSU. We love that they are a Harvest Host location. When we got there, we went into the tasting room and they directed us the best place to park. After we got set up, we got a couple bottles of wine, brought some snacks from our rig and played bocci ball on the court they have, then just sat back and relaxed on the patio. We will definitely be back!! Love the location, the view and the hospitality!! And Dan got a new wine club member out of my father in law. read more

Beautiful scenery from their trellis covered patio, with rows of lavender and the rows of grapevines. The whole experience was odd. We arrived on a weekday afternoon, and were the only people there. The man helping us did not offer any explanation about the wines or the vineyard, was dressed super casually in a tshirt that was rumpled and dirty fingernails. Hmmm, maybe he just came in from the vineyard? I don't know, it just felt weird. The wines were ok-ish. read more

Amazing wines in an absolutely beautiful setting. Maybe the least expensive tastings, glass pours, and bottles I've found in the valley and wine that is as good as any in the Willamette. We went for one of the Friday night concerts and got a bottle of their estate Pinot Noir and some cheese, crackers, and charcuterie to make our own board. The lavender they have planted around the patio looked and smelled gorgeous. Oh, and there's a bocce ball court!!! read more

Wow, what can I say. This place is all around amazing. The owners are so nice and informative. All the Pinot Noirs we tasted were great, hard to pick a favorite. You can purchase cheese and crackers for reasonable price AND pick table grapes to eat from the arbor above the deck, delicious. read more

My spouse and I came to Cardwell Hill Cellars upon an advice from our Airbnb hosts who lived in the area. We are big wine lovers from San Jose, California with our first time in Willamette Valley. When we arrived, we were greeted by a gentleman who served us a delicious selection of wines. We never realize how Pinot Noir can taste differently depending on the clones and the area. We were most surprised to realize that we were standing across one of the winemakers, Dan, who was down-to-earth, kind, and humble. We highly recommend this place! read more

About a mile and a half off of Highway 20 and east of Corvalis. A lovely property with vineyard and a beautiful home. Some award winning pinots. Generous pours and reasonable fees. The tastings included both new and older vintages. There is a nice outdoor covered patio overlooking the vineyard, and your dog is welcome to join you. The owners are very pleasant. read more

This is my favorite winery outside of Corvallis. The wine is very good and only $1 a taste, and very reasonable pricing on their bottles. My favorite is the Old vine or the reserve Pinot noir. The service has always been very private and friendly. If you go in late summer you might have the chance to taste the worlds best table wines that grow over the outdoor deck/patio. read more

Beautiful setting. Worth a visit for the scenery alone. Some nice wines, but the host didn't really know too much about the wine. Well intentioned, but stood out compared to the rest of our visits this trip. The winemaker is a retired chemical engineer, so it sounds like he tries cool stuff - for example, try the blanc de noir. Left with a bottle of that. Cardwell is a fairly new winery, and definitely worth a stop! read more

Just passing through town on a road trip, searching for a winery open on a Tuesday morning. We could not have been more pleased with our experience. We were greeted immediately with a friendly face who was knowledgeable and more than happy to assist us with tasting three of their selection. We picked out a couple bottles as gifts, however decided to stay for a few glasses after such a pleasant interaction. I drive by this winery frequently- and finally stopped in on Mothers Day with my mom- it was great! Lots of tables outside, with beautiful views of their fields. Each taste is only $1-2 which is awesome, and every wine I tried I loved. Their bottle pricing at the cellars is a great deal too! It is less busy than the wineries in other parts of the Willamette Valley, but I love that! I will definitely be back! read more

We stumbled on Cardwell Hill some years ago when visiting friends in Philomath. Decades ago the owner reclaimed a derelict vineyard, planted new vines and improved his craft. Everything from managing the vineyard to making and aging the wine to selling it is all done in house. We had stopped at many wineries over the years and all of them more famous (so far). Far and away Cardwell Hill's top end pinot noirs (Monet Blocks and Dijon Blocks) were better than anything we encountered elsewhere. A wine professional from NZ was in our tasting group and exclaimed that she was sorry to have bought bottles elsewhere because she'd have liked to take a few bottles of the Blocks back. As one of our friends said, this is the pinot noir they promise you in Oregon. Well we're heading out in August and I hope to be able to stop. read more

I had the 2015 old vines. I'm not a huge Pinot fan but I was pleased. The grounds are lovely. Dog friendly outside, nice views. My only issue was with the service. Visiting this vineyard made me almost feel as if I was plopped down in the middle of Europe. The surrounding countryside was really beautiful and did I mention the wine? Well that was great as well. Of the 3 pinot noirs that were available for tasting, my favorite was the 2007. Tasting is $1 per wine which is kind of nice if you know you're not a big fan of a particular grape. If you want to buy a bottle or a glass to drink there's a nice deck to enjoy it on as well as a large lawn with picnic tables. Also, don't forget to bring your bocce or petanque balls as there is a court for this as well. Would definitely come back! read more

Happened to be driving thru the area and found this winery. Surprised that wine tasting was only $1. per tasting and was even credited to the bottle of tasty Pinot Noir that we purchased. We hosted our wedding there 7/7/2012! The first wedding they hosted there and I have to tell you that it was AMAZING! Dan, Nancy, Miranda, and the rest of the staff were just great. Prior to the wedding we had a few meetings with Dan and Nancy who are the owners of this vineyard. They answered all of questions and concerns, kept in touch with us, and helped with the wedding arrangements. Dan along with his staff went above and beyond at the day of as well. He opened the barrel room to our guest, was there to answer questions, and even let us "taste" the wine that was in the barrel! It was just amazing. Our wedding was held outside in a beautiful day next to the vineyard. We rented 2 tents that were placed close to the tasting room and just made everything so wonderful. If anyone is planning a future wedding and you want a nice atmosphere, a sense of family, a sight to die for, and hosts that care about you and what you want - have it at CARDWELL HILL CELLARS! You will not regret it. All my family and friends were just astonished at how beautiful it was up there, the vineyards, Dan, Nancy, and Miranda, and of course THE WINE! we bought 5 cases of their wine which Dan made cards for explaining what kind of wine it was and what food you could compliment it with.
