Three weeks ago, I had a full eye examination with Dr. Wise, an ophthalmologist (MD) in Florida. Since I have worn glasses since high school, all I needed at this visit was a new prescription after losing my glasses. Last year, I also had a full exam at LensCrafters in Aventura, where the front desk clearly explained all costs and insurance coverage before my appointment. That visit was handled transparently and professionally. At MyEyeDr, however, the front desk did not explain what my insurance would or would not cover. During my appointment, a technician took retinal images without informing me that this would result in a $44 charge. I should have been told in advance and given the choice to decline. In addition, I was charged $140 for a contact lens fitting that was never discussed with me beforehand. The optometrist attempted multifocal lenses, which did not work for me. I was the one who had to suggest the lens setup I normally use (one lens for distance), and only then did he agree it would work. This left me feeling the fitting was unnecessary and not worth the fee. At checkout, I was presented with a bill of $640 that included these undisclosed charges. I was not prepared for such an amount and chose not to proceed with the purchase. The interaction with the sales associate afterward was uncomfortable and unprofessional. Because I was not informed of these additional services or fees beforehand, I am requesting a refund of the $44 retinal image fee and the $140 contact lens fitting fee. I believe this is a fair resolution given the lack of transparency and communication at my appointment. Thank you for your prompt attention to this matter. I have been a patient of Dr. Wolfe for about eight years now. It started when I went to an…read moreoptometrist for a regular eye exam. She told me I had closed angles which I had never heard of. She told me she could not see me and referred me to the an ophthalmologist. That opthamologist gave me the same diagnosis. I was not happy with his bedside manner. Besides that, I wanted another opinion from an opthamologist. So, I ended up seeing Dr. Wolfe. He diagnosed the same thing. He suggested that I have an LPI surgery. I had 20/20 vision but this is something that is not detectable by me, did not affect my vision. I would have never known about this had I not gone for semi regular eye exams. So make sure you go for your eye exam because you never know. Anyway, Dr. Wolfe did an excellent job of opening my angles. He explained every step of the way to me. He has steady hands and while it was no picnic, it was bearable. And let me tell you....I am a big baby! I don't even like to get blood drawn let alone anything to do with my eyes. I go for yearly check-ups to make sure everything is still okay and hopefully it will continue to be. He's very professional and speaks on a level that I feel comfortable with. Sometimes doctors like to talk in a way that is very sophisticated with their medical terms. I recommend him for a regular exam or hopefully nobody needs a surgery like I did.

However with quick thinking, the front desk staff was able to correct the error. I just went for an annual eye exam and nothing out of the norm here. Dr. Heiden was helpful and kind of quirky, but I enjoyed my visit. The only con, which isnt their fault, was that my eyes dilated when I was getting ready to leave rather than when I was there. I had to go sleep it off as I was not functional in that state.

I was told when I got there that the doctor does not see patients at that location on Saturday, and that it must have been a computer glitch that allowed me to make this appointment online. I rescheduled the appointment in person for November 4 at 9:20 am at the same location. Today, I received an email that said my appointment was at 5:40 pm. I called and was told that the doctor does not see patients that early in the morning. Unacceptable to change a patient's appointment without a courtesy call. The doctor keeps changing her schedule and protocol.

Drops went in at 3:55 and the Doc didn't return for a half hour, after saying she'd be back in 15-20. I made the appt at 3:00 with another meeting at 4:30 figuring never in life would an eye exam take longer than an hour, let alone 90 minutes. Maybe my expectations are a bit too high. Who knows?
