I am writing to file a formal complaint regarding my recent visit to your office and to request a refund for services that were not disclosed to me in advance. Three weeks ago, I had a full eye examination with Dr. Wise, an ophthalmologist (MD) in Florida. Since I have worn glasses since high school, all I needed at this visit was a new prescription after losing my glasses. Last year, I also had a full exam at LensCrafters in Aventura, where the front desk clearly explained all costs and insurance coverage before my appointment. That visit was handled transparently and professionally. At MyEyeDr, however, the front desk did not explain what my insurance would or would not cover. During my appointment, a technician took retinal images without informing me that this would result in a $44 charge. I should have been told in advance and given the choice to decline. In addition, I was charged $140 for a contact lens fitting that was never discussed with me beforehand. The optometrist attempted multifocal lenses, which did not work for me. I was the one who had to suggest the lens setup I normally use (one lens for distance), and only then did he agree it would work. This left me feeling the fitting was unnecessary and not worth the fee. At checkout, I was presented with a bill of $640 that included these undisclosed charges. I was not prepared for such an amount and chose not to proceed with the purchase. The interaction with the sales associate afterward was uncomfortable and unprofessional. Because I was not informed of these additional services or fees beforehand, I am requesting a refund of the $44 retinal image fee and the $140 contact lens fitting fee. I believe this is a fair resolution given the lack of transparency and communication at my appointment. Thank you for your prompt attention to this matter. My appointment on 1/21/2025 was a pleasant one. I'm never disappointed whenever I'm seen by Dr Barry Kay. He makes you feel at ease, and that your feelings and whatever you're experiencing matters to him. He's very caring. We need more optometrist like him. He keeps you laughing, and he's professional with his patients. The staff let's not forget about them. They're all very professional the young ladies that were there, were new since my last visit this time last year, so I didn't know their names. Although I paid in full - I was continually told I had an outstanding payment. Recently, I started receiving calls that the classes I picked up weeks ago were ready for pickup. When considering which frames to purchase, the salesman said the frames were usually $200, but I could get them for $129. Too many hassles and hustles - I won't return. It's been seven years since I've had a proper eye exam. I figured it was time to check my eyes and make sure I didn't need a new prescription. I searched around on Yelp for a decent eye doctor and glasses store and this place came up. It had stellar reviews so I figured this would be a good option. I made an appointment online and it was very simple and quick and I was able to go in on the same day. When I arrived, I probably waited around 5-8 minutes before I was taken back and given the eye exam. The nurse and doctor, Dr. Dweese, were very friendly and comforting, making sure I understood everything being explained. I did not have vision insurance so they told me up front it would be $170 for my eye exam. My vision only had gotten a bit worse, but I decided I might as well get a new pair of glasses since I was there. Now, they have some very rather pricey glasses here. Think, Prada, Fendi, Chloe, etc. So, they didn't have any inexpensive frames here or reasonably priced ones. Most of the frames I was looking ar were between $200-400. Now, this is why I just can't give this place five stars like 95% of the other people have. The people on the sales floor behind helping you find a pair of glasses were, uh, a bit pushy. Seeing I was already probably going to have to spend some dough today, I was trying to stay as low as possible, I kept noticing our sales assistant be like, "Yeah, you know what would look better on you. Try these super awesome, rare, deluxe, bank emptying Swedish-Tempurpedic glasses. They're indestructible and are only like $900." Yeah, I'm a middle school teacher, I can't really afford those... Yet, somehow, at the end of the day, I walked out of this store having spent $700 on glasses. (That includes the eye exam) I am not thrilled that I allowed my push-over-self to do this, but I will not be returning to this store. Do yourself a favor, if you do come here, get the eye exam, get the prescription, and then buy a nice pair of glasses online where you can get a better deal. Even when I came back a week later to pick up my glasses. I overheard a gentleman making the same case to another sales lady about the glasses here being overpriced. He actually had vision insurance and he was also about to be ripped off with his sales. I heard him say, "Yeah, before I came I looked online and I can get a waaaay better deal online than in here." DO NOT USE MYEYEDR!!!!!! Their corporate policy is designed to rip people off. First of all, the staff is great. But that's not what this review is about. I've worn contacts 40 of the 57 long years I've been on this planet. Monovision Lasik surgery provided a 15 year reprieve but my astigmatism flared up again, and vision was weakened. I initially went in to MyEyeDrfor multi focus contact and specifically stated that when making the appointment. When I arrived, I confirmed to that to the lovely lady at the desk, as well as the nice gentleman who tested my eyes, and finally to the doctor, too. He told me my eyes weren't bad enough for contacts, and suggested a pair of glasses. Again, my eyes were not bad enough for contact but needed glasses?!?!?! That should have been a red flag right there but my crohns was acting up that day and I just simply wanted to move forward with getting correction for my eyes, so I allowed the glasses prescription instead of getting as ugly as I felt inside. Shame on me! Fast forward to the day my progressive glasses were finally ready. I went to pick them up, tried them on and couldn't see well because 1, my eyes were permanently fixed to a monovision status and 2, the progressive correction runs in a vertical strip, not horizontally across the lens, too. I felt nauseous when I moved my eyes from side to side. The guy who handed them to me told me to allow a week for adjustment. Having worn contact for 40 years, I knew the glasses weren't going to work, as well as they weren't what I went in for initially, but I was $700 in, so I took them home. A week later, I still had the same issues, I felt nauseous when I moved my eyes while wearing the glasses. So I made an appointment to go back to see what could be done. The same guy who helped me when I picked up the glasses was the same guy who checked the glasses today. He said everything was fine with the glasses. I told him I get nauseous when I move my eyes within the glasses. He said I'm supposed to turn my head to see with progressive lenses. I told him that wasn't going to work for me, that I had initially gone in for multi focus contacts and the glasses were not those. He asked if I wanted a refund. I said yes. I had paid cash for this mistake and he conveyed that the check would be sent out within 7 to 10 business days. Of course! When I arrived home, I looked online to find out how much a pair of glasses would cost online - to compare the price to the $700 I had spent on this mistake. I noticed the pupillary distance wasn't on the prescription I received today, so I called to find out what it was (I just ordered a pair of glasses for my Missouri daughter-by-choice and her non myeyedr prescription had it on there.) I may as well have SOMETHING for $143.00 I spent for the exam, right?! The same guy who issued the refund today answered the phone. I told him the pupillary distance wasn't on the prescription and he wouldn't give it to me, stating there is a liability issue when they give it out. But I KNOW other doctors provide a complete prescription for their patients. So I spent $143.00 FOR ABSOLUTELY NOTHING!! I gave them multiple opportunities to avoid this review. This store has about an average selection of eyewear frames. The prescription lenses that I got today are near perfect. My only real dissatisfaction stems from the fact that the store is located in downtown Hollywood, Florida, and the nearby parking is solely at curbside parking meters. It is particularly problematic for me, because I am a disabled senior, who uses a walker to get around on the street. In the store, I was grateful to be shown a selection of discounted frames because they have some very expensive ones also. I don't think the employees did anything wrong in servicing me, but standing up and walking around the store was difficult using my walker, and I was left alone to pick out suitable frames from the frames I was shown. read more

I began seeing Dr. Barry Kay here back in 2017 when they were still Hollywood Eyes. He was the first optometrist I had ever seen, so I was a bit nervous at first, but any apprehension I had went out the window as soon as I began interacting with his office. Everyone was very welcoming and reassuring and walked me through each step, including helping me select a nice pair of frames. Dr. Kay helps you feel at ease and is happy to answer any and all questions one might have at any point of the exams. He explains what each assessment does and how it helps him determine the best course of action to improve one's vision. He seems to really like to get to know his patients and is always handy with a quip to keep it light and help patients feel comfortable. I would have no hesitation whatsoever recommending his office to anyone looking for a knowledgeable, friendly, and professional optometrist! read more

Came into the store because my glasses were broken. I didn't buy them from here. Marlon was very nice and helpful, and fixed both pairs of my glasses for free. Didn't give me a hard time at all, and it only took him 5 minutes to fix both pairs. The service was so great from Marlon, that I decided to buy new pair of glasses (frame and lenses) for only 90$. Would recommend this store to anyone looking for a local glasses store. read more

The staff were fabulous, very accommodating and friendly and arranged am appointment easily. The Dr was excellent and the selection of glasses was tremendous. I've been going to Dr. Kay for about 13 years and he is an amazing optometrist. Unfortunately, he sold his practice to MyEyeDr and the service has become absolute trash. After they cancelled my appointment the day before, I am officially done with this practice. Their reasoning was that I hadn't confirmed my appointment and it was their policy to cancel appointments that weren't confirmed. Apparently this is a common thing with them now. Too bad. read more

I have been a patient of Dr. Kay's since his practice opened in Hollywood on Harrison Street. I made an appointment last week to see Dr. Kay specifically as he is the only optometrist I see. This was my yearly appointment. I made the appointment when I was on vacation and before my insurance benefits ends. I arrived for my 10:30 appointment timely and was told that it was canceled. I had not canceled the appointment and showed the receptionist my confirmation text which she showed someone who I assume was the office manager. He informed me that Dr. Kay was booked and asked if I wanted to see another optometrist. I declined as I had NOT canceled the appointment, paid for parking and made my appointment timely. I was asked if I wanted to make an appointment for the following week with Dr. Kay. Again, I declined as I, too, have work responsibilities. The receptionist said she would see if Dr. Kay could fit me in. I stood waiting for more than 20 minutes. I then decided to ask for my records as it is apparent that this company did not care want my business. This merger is the reason why people prefer using small businesses. As a patient for over 20 years, Dr. Kay's former employees would not have treated me in such a non-caring and lackadaisical manner. I am certain the new company could care less about losing a patient; however, I care that I am unable to make an appointment, confirm it and not been seen by a doctor that I have seen for years. Time for another annual eye exam. I came thirty minutes early mainly to get a decent park along Harrison Street. It isn't easy to find one at times, especially in front of or close to the business I am going to. So I have no choice but to drive around until I find an available space. Hollywood Eyes is a nice, clean optometry office with a friendly staff. Various selection of frames like Dragon, Tom Ford, Alain Mikli, and Dior - to mention a few, are neatly displayed throughout the office. When it was my turn to be seen, Will took me into a small room and had me place my chin and forehead up against a machine to examine my eyes. Then he took me into another room and had me cover each of my eyes while reading letters on a mirror and some words on a chart. After a few minutes, Dr. Kay came in, asked me a few questions, and further examined my eyes. He had me read a few letters and tested my vision with various lenses. He then concluded that the vision in my left eye was slightly different than the right and decided to give me specific lenses in my new glasses to aid me when I'm reading and/or looking at a computer screen. Dr. Kay was so nice, courteous, friendly, and funny. He had me cracking up during the examination, which went very well. I then met back with Will to pick out a new frame for my glasses. Will had me try on a few to see which one I liked, then suggested a frame he thought looked good on me. He got good taste. I liked the size of the frame and it was comfortable to wear. Will told me I would receive a call to pick up my new glasses in a week. Dr. Kay didn't dilate my eyes this time so I didn't get those bendable protective glasses they ask you to wear to protect your eyes from the brightness of the sun. I refer to it as the Terminator shades...I'll be back! read more

I went here for an eye exam and to buy a new pair of reading glasses. They had a sale on sunglasses for 40% off as well for prescription lends only. Since my prescription is for reading only, I just wanted a pair of Maui Jim's with their regular lenses. I was told that I could only get the 40% off with prescription lenses. Needles to say they lost the sale and I bought them elsewhere for slightly less. Kinda foolish of them to me as I buy a new pair of sunglasses often and now I'll never go there again. read more

Went there 10 min before closing and I explain to them that traffic horrible. They looked at me like get out of here. I mean always if you are there they offer you to help to make things fast. I pick my frame in 5 minutes but at 5:55 they said they were closed instead of taking my info and don't loose the sale. I guess they are not paid by commission or they are the owners with so much business they don't want yours. The next day a made it to another optical and they stay five extra more minutes to help me after they closed. I paid $1,300 for the glasses but I rather paid that instead of going back to this place. They don't care about you all they care is that you are out of there 5 minutes before closing. That is the wrong way to do business. I don't recommend this place at all. read more

I was very nervous coming in but Dr. Nguyen was so patient and understanding and explained everything that she was doing in detail. Best optometrist's office in town!! I say that because every single person in this office was fantastic! Courteous, patient, professional, helpful, and just plain easy to work with. I had been to four other offices before coming to this one...because I couldn't find frames that I liked ( you know the routine...boring, all look alike frames)...I was blown away by the choices I had in this office...so many that I liked...the only problem I had was choosing which ones. I'm from New York and this office had more stylish and cool frames than my usual place in NY! Dr. Deweese was so great about taking his time and explaining everything to me. Beware!!! Dr. Barry Kay is a creep! Went in there last year for an eye exam and he made me feel so uncomfortable! Kept touching my face in an Inappropriate way (almost like stroking it), the way he was looking at me, complementing me and my eyes and saying how beautiful my eyes are and I am, but that's not even it! I did not want to pay extra for the photo of the back of my eyes and he kept pressuring me and finally I was stern with him and said no for the 5th time and he said verbatim "so your saying I can't get you drunk and take pictures of you?" I was in shock! Like who says that!? Especially your doctor!? I should have reported him and still can but I'd rather just make a review and warn women than to ruin his life and career. I should have posted this sooner but to be honest I tried to forget. Now getting emails saying I'm due for an eye exam from him, this reminds me of the traumatic and disgusting experience I had at his office. Please ladies, go elsewhere. I have been a customer for years and they have always been amazing. Unfortunately the saying is true, all things must change. They have not changed for the better. I made an appointment for my wife and daughter. The cardiologist appointment for my daughter ran late and I called to say they would be about 10 minutes late. As they spent about 10 minutes looking for parking my wife received a call from the office. They missed their opportunity to be seen as a parking spot opened up directly in front of the business. I tried calling to explain ad was met with zero compassion or sympathy. I am never going back and they will never my families business. Sorry Dr Kay, I think you are great, but your office can't meet my families needs. read more

Went to make appointment for me and two children. Was told office policy only allows for two family member appointments a day regardless if there are open appointments. . . Decided to go elsewhere. Why would a business make it inconvenient for a customer? When I tried to inquire about policy the conversation quickly ended and I got a dial tone. Never had the chance to see the eye doctor.
