I spoke to Melanie, Optometric Assistant, who helped me schedule the appointment and found the time that worked best. The exam itself was as thorough as I've ever experienced. Specifically because the prescription was obtained for function AND comfort. As anyone who wears glasses knows, having one and not the other doesn't help. They charged me FULL retail for my exam. I had to submit my charges to the insurance company, that only reimbursed me for the "Reasonable & Customary", $150. I have purchased thousands of dollars worth of frames and lenses from Jazzy Eyes over the past 45 years. The least they could have done was charge me the $150 that my insurance covered. They have zero flexibility for their good long time customers. It is not a matter of the money, this will not break me. It was the idea that if they do not take your insurance they charge you a high retail price. For a routine annual visit. So sad. In the past, Jazzy Eyes used to have the largest selection of really funky glass. Their selection has been reduced and many of their brands that they used to carry, they do not have anymore. $50 dollars cost them my business. I am sorry to go, it is just a matter of principle. Don't expect consistency and don't expect great customer service every time. Why I Even Come Here I come to this Stanton Optical only because it's right next to my house and my local Starbucks. Convenience is really the only reason I've returned over the years. It can be cheaper if you know how to handle them, and I've figured out how to avoid the upselling. But for most people, it's not an easy place to deal with. Be Prepared for Upselling You have to be assertive and firm here. The staff often try to upsell services or add-ons, and unless you're a dominant personality who knows how to push back, you'll end up paying more than you intended. At one point, I even had to tell a rep to start writing prices down on paper because she kept changing numbers mid-conversation to upsell me. That's not professional. Customer Service is Extremely Inconsistent This location is very hit or miss, more miss than hit. Some days, you walk in and someone helps you quickly. Dr Jane has more fancy machines in her office than I've seen anywhere . This is the most high tech office around this area. They've had a very nice change in their office staff lately and the office runs smooth and everyone shows compassion with their smiles and courtesy to patients. Coming off two eye surgeries in the past few years, I go in to see her every year for a routine checkup. She always lets me know that I'm good to go.
