Outside being a jaunt across the bridge which is not so fun in the late afternoon, they're pretty close by, have good transfer fees, as well as friendly, knowledgeable, & responsive staff. I've never had an issue getting FFL info to a shipper, they're good about calling when your items are ready to pick up, and they've never had any issues processing some of my more complex transfers. That's about all I can reasonably ask from a local gun shop. There are some disadvantages; I tend to show up when there's no line, but if there's a line, the building is a bit on the small side so given the current madness caused by our esteemed Gavin-Newsome-Backdoor-Buddy, Supreme Chancellor Inslee, and King County's pet psychos in the legislature, it wouldn't be hard to imagine at some point you could end up with a line out the door, though in fairness, I've yet to actually see this happen. There is a coffee place next door, which might help those who are so inclined as the wait can be a while while everyone's transfers are processed, which seem to average 15-25 minutes per transfer depending on how smooth things go. Related, the parking lot is a bit on the small side, and is what I'll term "free form" for at least one decent sized corner of it, so you may need to park at adjacent businesses if things are really slammed, and I would suggest that smaller cars may be preferred, but I've yet to actually have an issue getting a full size truck parked in the lot at least during the times I've been there.

Matt, Mark and the rest of the crew at BG are friendly, helpful, and best of all, they know their stuff. Bought two guns and ammo there and will definitely return for future needs. Would highly recommend them for their inventory and support.

If Bass Pro Shops represents the worst possible gun store experience, MKR Tactical is the best. At…read moreBass Pro, you are literally just a number, there purely to be exploited in every imaginable way. I've had better customer service (and less waiting) at any given DMV. At MKR, however, it's like talking to a friend--or at least to people that treat you (even when you're ignorant and don't know everything about guns) with respect. If they carried the firearm I wanted, I would've bought it from them, not the bassholes at Bass Pro. But I wanted a budget firearm, and MKR carries only the best. When I went in yesterday, I needed help figuring out how to use a magazine loader. I literally just walked through their door with a box of my stuff, asking for help. Matthew not only demonstrated how to use the device using dummy rounds, he gave me invaluable advice about safety, gun cleaning tips, classes. Since I was not making a purchase that day, I wanted to tip him. Peoples' time, care and good advice are valuable and deserve recognition, particularly when folks go above and beyond. My tip was politely declined. Unlike Bass, where customers are nothing more than walking money bags, MKR treats people...well, like people. I believe that ignorance is not a crime, especially when you admit to it and actively seek to increase your knowledge base. That can't always be done on your own. Youtube videos and books, while helpful, cannot give you all that you need to know about guns. Yet, in some gun stores, the so-called gun experts can be extremely condescending towards anyone who doesn't know as much as they do. ...Or anyone they THINK doesn't know as much as they do. That's why I so appreciate the attitude of Matthew and everyone else at MKR Tactical. They aren't there to lord their knowledge over you, but to share it with you. It's the first place I felt safe enough to ask questions because I realized pretty quickly that they wouldn't humiliate me or treat me like an annoyance. That means EVERYTHING. Honestly, it's not that hard to treat people with basic respect, but it is hard to find places that do. Increasingly, I'm finding that you really need to go to a smaller mom n' pop, locally and independently owned business like MKR Tactical, if you want to be treated like a human being, and avoid corporate monstrosities like Big Five, Cabellas, Dick's or Bass Pro--all of whom seem to have their tentacles wrapped around every urban area. The great news is that there are still good alternatives. I'm grateful for MKR Tactical and I hope they thrive for many more years to come.

I visited The Marksman Indoor Gun Range on a Sunday, just one month after my trip to Wade's Indoor…read moreGun Range. The parking lot was clean and the building is in good shape, though it could use a refresh. The staff was friendly, and the older gentleman who explained the range rules was engaging and easy to talk with. He took a little longer with me than I expected, but that likely had to do with a couple factors--either way, he was personable. My membership was reasonably priced, and because of my age I received a discount. Once I was in the range area, everything looked very clean and well organized, with clear signage and defined procedures. One difference I noticed versus Wade's: there wasn't a range master on hand in the same way to support guests and help ensure rules were being followed. After that finishing up in the range I headed back to the front in the retail area. I decided I wanted to buy a couple holsters. However, I stood at the counter for about 10 minutes and it became clear I wasn't going to receive service. The surprising part was that I was the only person standing there. At that point, I understand why I didn't get served, but it felt disappointing. And the irony is that I likely would have spent more money since the range desk experience elsewhere was great. No worries--there are plenty of other places to buy holsters. When I exited, I thanked them, but I didn't get a response (or they may not have heard me). Overall, I'm mixed on guest service... Since I'm a member, I'll probably give it another try.

The people are friendly. Lane fees are little lower than what Rain City used to charge($15) and…read moreeven less than what Pivotal (the new location) charges ($18) but there is that one time $15 fee so it will only be cheaper if you go more than once. My only complaints about the range is it's not temperature controlled so if it's hot outside, your hands will sweat...and no one like a slippery firearm. If it's cold, bring gloves. The last time I was there (which was maybe year and a half), their retrievers were in need some TLC. Covers were off and some didn't function at all. Their lane separators need more coverage because I don't like getting pepper by casings from the left lane. There aren't a ton of ranges around the King/Pierce area so you're probably going to go to what is closest. This isn't a bad place but it could use some comfort upgrades.
