I brought my savage 110 in to them for a safety problem. also a Remington 1903 to have a cast of the caliber done for me. They had my guns for none months. I called them three times. when they told me every time i was next in line. I picked up the guns and the casting was done, but they told me the other one was unfix able. I got on Numrich gun parts and bought all parts that I needed and fixed it myself. I am not a gun smith and I did it. They lied and cheated me out of my money. My first visit to CaR was fun, felt like home, these folks know they are there for the customer and will treat you well. I took my ruger ranch rifle in to repair my dumb reassemble after cleaning and after a few minutes the the rifle was repaired and functioning. While I was waiting there was a gentleman that was picking-up his grandfather's shotgun they had restored and the gunsmith took his time to explain to the man how to load, what shotshells he should use and the best cleaning method for the shotgun. I left my rifle for them to upgrade the rear sight and have all confidence it will be done correctly. read more

Took my ar pistol build to get it headspaced here and they charged me a fare price rather than buying the gauges and doing it myself. Also wanted my gas block pinned but they suggested I just use the set screws provided with some red loctite to save me money. They do really good work for a fair price! If you're looking for a local gunsmith in the area check them out. They do have some firearms for sale but its not a traditional gun store. Josh and Chris were great guys, explaining the process every step of the way when they did find something wrong with my headspacing, turns out they just needed the rest of the firearm so that the bolt would full seat. I left my Kel Tec PF9 with C.A.R. Firearms approximately 4 months ago for a faulty trigger repair. I called them a few weeks ago for an update, the lady at the front desk apologized, and told me the gunsmith would call me later that day. He didn't. After calling them back, I was told that they started work on my firearm, and would call me back soon. They didn't. After finally speaking with the "gunsmith", he said the mechanisms were repaired, but the trigger still wouldn't fire with the slide on. "I'm not a magician" were his words. I'm not one to complain about wait times, I understand the high volume of work they do must make it difficult to run a business, BUT the way this business has avoided transparency, stonewalled my requests for updates and repeatedly failed to complete the services they claim to provide has made me completely lose confidence in their practice. A quick google search tells me that to be able to work as a gunsmith, you must be registered with a FFL (federal firearms license). This does not require any formal engineering qualifications or machining background. There is clearly a shortage gunsmiths in the greater Seattle area, but next time, I'll definitely look harder to find someone qualified. Another week after we last spoke, they still have my gun, and haven't called me back. read more

While looking to research my first AR15, I looked at a list of FFLs around here and walked in thinking this was a gun shop. Unfortunately, this is not a traditional store but rather a FFL gunsmith. Still in my disappointment, the owner Fred stepped up and took some time to teach me the basics and maintenance of what it means to own a modern sporting rifle (MSR) which turned out to be one of the most informative hour and a half. Fred is a respectable and knowledgeable gunsmith that that served in the Army (thank you for your service!) that knows his craft and made great recommendations of what In should look for in a first MSR. He also convinced me to keep my Mossberg 500 that I wanted to sell, suggested me to look into a higher quality complete MSR (i.e. Stag Arms), ditch the Ruger AR556 I was originally looking for, Glock mods, and educated me on WA state gun laws. During that time, I can see he really cares about his customers and wants each and every single one of them to leave with the best firearm made for them in a long term investment. read more

In an effort to add more value to my reviews, I've focused on looking for reasons to not award five stars so as not to appear to be a Pollyanna - in terms of being nice. In this case I would be offensively wrong to do so based on my experience with Fred and Christa of C.A.R. Firearms. I'm not really sure I can add much more beyond what Samuel C. and others have already said, but I'll try anyway. Customer Service - not only was the team highly responsive to my email inquiries, but they were very accommodating on schedule; for those of us who have relied on gunsmiths in this region for years, finding a highly accessible, available, and responsive smith can be difficult-at-best. And both via email and in person, I found Fred and Christa to be absolutely delightful to work with. Quality - "you don't pay until you're satisfied" is the motto of C.A.R., and it shows in the level of quality they put into their work. I've had plenty of work (and re-work) done over the years, and there's nothing at all that is anything other than the highest quality that has come out of the team for the work they did for me. Pricing - when you find a quality smith, it can be rare enough that you find yourself paying out the proverbial nose for it. Fred and team are exceptionally affordable, so much so that feeling guilty that you got too good of a deal *might* occur when you leave. Intangibles (expertise, candor, etc.) - I could have put this under the quality of customer service, but I think it deserves its own section. I love it when people challenge my assumptions and take opportunities to help educate me in a non-condescending way. I probably spent 45 minutes talking to Fred about all things not-related to my work, and he shared his passion on quality parts and builds to where he kept cycling into the back to share some of his personal works with me. Fred's as much a quality teacher as a gunsmith, and the teamwork he and Christa deliver together can't be faked. These are quality folks, and you leave a bit better for the experience. So they get the full five. Why? Because they deserve it. And if you're looking for a quality shop to entrust your firearms to, they should be in your top one. read more

CaR Firearms is the best gunsmith in the Pacific Northwest. Fred, the lead gunsmith is one of the most meticulous people you will ever meet. Just about everything he does is perfect. From a simple barrel cut down, to a complex rebuild of an entire rifle. If you have the work done at CaR, it will be done right and exceed your expectations. Fred did some work on my rifle last year, and I was blown away by the quality when I picked it up. What also was shocking was the low price tag for the quality of work done. My muzzle brake was installed level to the thousandth, which is not something that every gunsmith out there will do for you. The molyresin paint was perfect, without any defects in it at all, including under the handguard, where you wouldn't even normally see a mistake and most other gunsmiths would also just leave them because they aren't visible without some work to take the handguard off. I would trust Fred to work on any of my firearms and trust his opinion above that of anyone else out there. No matter if it is my high end competition rifle or the pistol I carry every day, and trust my life with. Fred will make sure that you are taken care of, it is done not just right, but perfectly. Yesterday I had the most wonderful experience at C.A.R. Firearms. It was my first time ever visiting a gunsmith and I didn't really know what to expect. I was greeted by a young man named Josh who was very friendly and welcoming. After my explaining the problem with my brand new pistol, Josh took it to the workshop in the back of the store. About five minutes later the gunsmith named Nick appeared. He had inspected my pistol and determined that the manufacturers' extremely tight tolerances required some special handling until it was broken in. Nick was highly competent and very professional. Had a pistol upper there for a front sight post installation and it ended up taking much longer then they had anticipated and I was emailed saying I was going to get a discount which honestly was nice and appreciated. When I went into pick it up they apologized for the longer time it took and ended not charging for anything. I couldn't believe it I said "are you sure" my job got lost in paperwork and took an extra month and so for being so patient and understanding they waived the whole job was honestly speechless. I had these guys handle a transfer for me then do a set of sights on my carry piece and both transactions were great. I have been going to C.A.R. Firearms for years. They can tackle the most common of tasks and can also dig in to unique platforms or new platforms that do not have a lot of information available. I am always confident my expectations will be met. More often than not, they are exceeded. Fred is magic with a trigger. He has performed many trigger jobs for me with amazing results.
