I visited The Marksman Indoor Gun Range on a Sunday, just one month after my trip to Wade's Indoor Gun Range. The parking lot was clean and the building is in good shape, though it could use a refresh. The staff was friendly, and the older gentleman who explained the range rules was engaging and easy to talk with. He took a little longer with me than I expected, but that likely had to do with a couple factors--either way, he was personable. My membership was reasonably priced, and because of my age I received a discount. Once I was in the range area, everything looked very clean and well organized, with clear signage and defined procedures. One difference I noticed versus Wade's: there wasn't a range master on hand in the same way to support guests and help ensure rules were being followed. After that finishing up in the range I headed back to the front in the retail area. I decided I wanted to buy a couple holsters. However, I stood at the counter for about 10 minutes and it became clear I wasn't going to receive service. The surprising part was that I was the only person standing there. At that point, I understand why I didn't get served, but it felt disappointing. And the irony is that I likely would have spent more money since the range desk experience elsewhere was great. No worries--there are plenty of other places to buy holsters. When I exited, I thanked them, but I didn't get a response (or they may not have heard me). Overall, I'm mixed on guest service... Since I'm a member, I'll probably give it another try. read more

The people are friendly. Lane fees are little lower than what Rain City used to charge($15) and even less than what Pivotal (the new location) charges ($18) but there is that one time $15 fee so it will only be cheaper if you go more than once. My only complaints about the range is it's not temperature controlled so if it's hot outside, your hands will sweat...and no one like a slippery firearm. If it's cold, bring gloves. The last time I was there (which was maybe year and a half), their retrievers were in need some TLC. Covers were off and some didn't function at all. Their lane separators need more coverage because I don't like getting pepper by casings from the left lane. There aren't a ton of ranges around the King/Pierce area so you're probably going to go to what is closest. This isn't a bad place but it could use some comfort upgrades. read more

My wife and I have been here a few times and we were not disappointed. The staff is amazing. I wish I knew the name of the gentleman who helped us, because he was a rock star. Gave us both some helpful tips and it really improved our accuracy. The only negative is that the range is really cold. I suggest you wear your flannel. read more

Dangerous, poorly-supervised gun range. People playing grab-fanny with the shooter; a couple of people who had no idea of what muzzle discipline means. No RSO on duty. One lane's occupants behaved as if they were intoxicated. Each lane is monitored by a camera, but was anyone watching? No, thank you. Not worth losing my life. They don't price match local brick & mortar competition. I ended up paying 20% + more at marksman than I would've at SPORTCO. I wouldn't ever suggest anyone purchase any guns from this store. Went to this shooting range for the first time last week and definitely will be back! The staff is super friendly and knowledgeable. The range also has a lane that's good for people in wheelchairs which I love! I was able to get in do some shooting and get out no problem. This is a great place and prices are good too! read more

This place was busy. People coming in and out and the staff was handling business like pros. I like to watch the interactions going on in the back to see what a place is like. I saw loyal customers, respectful and helpful staff and even a "shop dog" who was getting belly rubs by the local folks. While I was looking a guy even asked for an application to work there. I like the dynamics of this place. I was asked numerous times if I needed any assistance. Mr. Oscar was the best when signing up for the range. People outside talking with their dogs. People inside chatting about transfers, gunsmiths and transactions. They even have a few women's conceal carry clothing. Keep up the great work. What a great business to the community. read more

Very nice people. They answered many many questions I had as a beginner. Purchased a gun and had no isssues, they complied with every law and kept their part of the deal, with great communication throughout. I've now utilized their indoor range 4 or 5 times, never a problem. They allow you to use their eye protection and ear protection if you came without preparations. Monday is 2 for 1 day, and Wednesday is free use of rental pistols (Check to make sure these days are still as I indicated). Visited this shop as an FFL Dealer, with license to purchase Glk 17. Was told that I needed "full-sheet" to make purchase as dealer. After driving an hour to gather requested paperwork(and back), I was then told to fill out a Form 4473. Ridiculous waist of time, not to mention the traffic in the area. Upon entry, never a smile or a hey can I help you. Awkward and slightly rude but I blew it off. Ask about the range and don't get my sentence finished before the red haired guy pointed and told me I can't shoot until I cover my arms. Ok I was in a tank top I get it. Asked if we could buy a shirt, He replied NOPE. Alright where? Dollar store across Pac Ave, just run over there. 1. Get employees who smile and greet people. Update: I won't deal with The Marksman in Puyallup ever again. Once they get their hands on your money, the smiles dissappear. I called Sig Sauer for case replacment. No problem, one is on the way, upgraded to a large gun case! No cost. Sig rep was dissapointed in this dealer and can't understand why they did not just issue me a new one. Stopped by here recently for the first time. Surprised by the bad reviews prior to coming here, as I had a great experience. In fact the reviews made me a bit nervous beforehand. So I arrived around 2pm. Due to COVID there was a bit of a wait to get in the store (10 minutes or so) but the employees there were great at coming out and asking what people were there for, answering ammo/stock questions etc. Masks are required. Once inside the retail area, each worker I interacted with were professional and made me feel welcome. Even just walking around looking at guns in the counter various employees would say hi and ask if I had any questions or if I wanted to see any of the weapons. I did handle a few pistols, and yes I was warned once to keep the gun pointed closer to the floor near me (I thought I had it in a good safe downward position but can't be too careful) and it was communicated in a courteous manner. Their prices were excellent particularly at the time of this review( January of 2021) since ammo and some guns are hard to come by. Ended up making a purchase, priced below MSRP. More than reasonable. Overall a 5 star experience. Will update once I pick up the firearm. Update: Firearm was picked up with no problem. Doing a out of state transfer with them on another handgun. Might try the range here someday. read more

Phoned a couple times ahead before driving to pick-up a pistol that is rarely found "in stock" and John had it in stock! The staff is truly friendly and very knowledgeable and the store itself is a tempting candy shop where you don't just look a manufacturers' catalogs because the Marksman's selection and the stock-on-hand is so vast. I enjoyed chatting with John and staff while needing to pull away otherwise I would have bought 1 or 2 additional items on the spot. Ya know, once you see it, gotta have it. Me and my sister wanted to go shooting for her first time and with 30 minutes left in the shop they were able to get us in and caught up with rules in less than 10 minutes. We were surprised they were able to get us in and how friendly the staff was. There was a younger lady and man that were helpful and kind and the guy John was more than accommodating and welcoming. I have been to the marksman range a handful of times over the years and have always been pleased. I just recently used them for an FFL transfer and the salespeople where all very nice even when it was really busy. The customers were all nice and friendly while we waited. The staff member that helped me, I don't remember her name, was knowledgable, friendly and I would be pleased to work with her or anyone I talked to again. If I had to come up with any negative comments it would be that it seems they could use a bigger building and more employees, but I imagine permitting a new range isn't super easy. read more

I took my RIA 1911 45ACP in to have night sights installed. This was a new pistol with not a mark on it. When I got it back there were marks on it and the bill was much higher than I was expecting. I will not be returning with any of my guns for repair or mods. read more

I came here for the first time a couple of days ago. I had planned to shoot by myself for an hour or so and this is the closest range to where I live. I'd read some of the bad comments and was fully prepared for what most people had mentioned (rudeness, etc.) but to my surprise I had a really good time. It was busy in there when I arrived so I had to wait a few minutes before I got to talk to someone. I told them it was my first time at that range and they brought me to a room to do a quick (10-15 minute) orientation on range rules. They make you sign a waiver and ask the basics (have you shot before, do you know how to clear a jam, etc.) you also have to purchase a membership to use the range, which was pretty inexpensive. The older guy who ran the orientation seemed kinda no-bullshit at first, if that makes sense, but he actually ended up being really funny and was one of the most helpful to me once we got on the range. Again, it was my first time in there so when we got to the lanes he showed me how to hang my targets (they don't use staples or tape) and where to put them when I wasn't using them, etc. Someone else's gun malfunctioned so they had everyone stop shooting and checked for the broken pieces from the gun meticulously. Other than that, I was pretty much unbothered and left to enjoy my lane. I even decided to get some more targets halfway through and the staff behind the desk was friendly and helped me pick some targets that were more challenging than the ones I had. When I left I bought some ammo to replace what I had shot and the girl behind the desk was already addressing me by name, which was nice. They even let me know about ladies being able to shoot free on Thursday's. The reason I took away one star is because the other customers in the store were way more intimidating/rude than the staff was. Lots of staring, not moving out of the way, one dude tried to cut me in line just by getting in front of me. Didn't even ask if I was in line or not. I know they can't control how all of their customers act but it's worth mentioning. All in all I enjoyed my experience and will definitely come back on to shoot again. read more

Refused private transfer to a active duty service member due to the fact of not being a state resident even though I presented them my orders. They have demonstrated they don't understand firearm laws. I drove down the road to pawn fathers and completed the transfer with no issue like I have in the past at many FFL's. Do not transfer firearms here if you're on orders in the military cause they'll turn you away and do not respect service members. read more

Excellent establishment to look for a new pistol, rifle or shot gun. Very knowledgeable staff, that yes, can take some time to talk to, due to a crowd. But once they get to you, they stay until you are satisfied. They are not pushy for a sale and have yet to try to push a specific brand on me. Their selection of rental guns is above par, along with the fee to do so. I wanted to shoot several compact and sub-compact 9mm's. Was shooting 10 rounds through each and ended up shooting 2 full boxes using 10 pistols. The counter help was very fast and friendly with my exchanges. You do have to buy their ammunition though. The range can get very crowded very quick. Here is my only complaint. They keep it cold on the range, take a jacket or sweater, no matter how hot it is outside. Will return here every time when I'm looking for their input on my next weapon. More often than not, buying it here. read more

Recently went to visit and did not receive good customer service. I was turned away for the range 30 mins before close and then someone else walks up and is given access to the range. Seemed like they were not interested in my business. The shop also did not smell very clean. For my first time visiting I was really disappointed. Dangerous place. Breathing in the shooting range is a life-changing event if you're an air-breather. It is so smoky from the shooting, the air assails the nose, eyes, and lungs just to be in that gas chamber. Worse than that, after sitting through a condescending safety briefing, the conduct of some of the people shooting leads me to believe that one day -- perhaps soon -- someone is going to lose their life in this shooting range. Three women were carrying on as though this was a paintball range, pushing and shoving the shooter while they were trying to hit their target. The business goes to some length to tell you that most targets should be run out to 25 yards, but these women had their target located much closer than 10 yards. As much as the mandatory safety briefing was (I guess) intended to get the public to regard shooting soberly and safely, the message was obviously lost on these three as they were playing grabass while one of them was firing at the target: they weren't there to improve their skills with firearms; they were there to play, making it very unsafe for others. Because of their behavior, I promptly left. Say something to Marksman employees about their behavior? Why? If there was a single Marksman employee monitoring their very loud, capricious, irresponsible, and reckless behavior at all, I'll eat my hat. Without some videotape evidence to the contrary, it would become a matter of a three-against-one debate about what behavior is appropriate with still-armed miscreants. There should have been an employee range-master on duty to stop their cavorting, especially when the oldest of the three began pointing her pistol in the direction of the floor, ceiling, and toward others. At a time when, speaking in terms of political realities, the behavior of one individual is used publicly unfairly to deny others their privileges and rights. If a single mishap had occurred as a result of their poorly thought-out frolic, it would have been the leading news story nationally for weeks. I wanted nothing to do with it. You likely wouldn't, either. read more

My wife and are new gun owners. Our journey began here as we were able to shoot multiple guns for free with the purchase of ammo. The staff was considerate, helpful and very focused on our safety and others. They also didn't hesitate to give opinions on which weapon might work out for each of us. We then attended their gun safety course and the professionalism went up from where I thought was an excellent level. I am getting to purchase another gun and I won't shop because this is our gun store and armory. read more

I came here with my kids with absolutely no knowledge of guns. However all the sales rep there were extremely nice. Told us everything we needed to know. I highly recommend this place. Good customer service, knowledgeable, very patient. Oscar was 1 of the guys that briefed us and helped us when our gun wasnt working because of our knowledge however it wasnt just once, twice but a few more time. He didnt show any frustrations each time we needed help. But made us feel that we got this. Thank you to the shift that was their Sunday. Poor Customer Service I came to view a firearm that was listed on the website and received the run around for twenty minutes saying I think we sold that gun. Then three days later, I find the same weapon listed from the shop on an auction website started the day after I had visited the shop. I also asked to see a pistol in one case and was directed to another case which didn't have even similar weapons. I'm used to spending $ 1000 to $ 3000 on firearms, but at this point I wouldn't spend a nickel here. read more

My friends and I had a nice day at the range planned. After paying my money and receiving my lane number, I took a minute to wait for my friends to get their lane. An employee came up while I was waiting, and asked to see my lane number card, which he took out of my hand with out saying why. After my friends got their lane, I asked for my lane card back. They said they only had one lane left, and it was going to my friends. When I asked what happened to the lane that I had paid for, they said they gave it to the people who came in behind me They said I would have to wait in the store while my friends got to go on the range without me, or all four of us could cram into one lane. They actually stole my lane card without telling me why, after I had paid for it, and gave it to people who they admitted came in after me. They were so condescending and rude, I just demanded my money back (which took about 20 minutes of course), said goodbye to my friends and left. This is absolutely unacceptable BAD Customer service. Completely ruined what was supposed to be a fun evening with good friends. I was thinking of getting a membership there like my friend but, as I said, I will never return to this dump. GREAT customer service! Extremely helpful and personable staff. My party of 3 felt right at home here, right away. After having a bad experience at BullsEye in Tacoma, this place had great vibes!!!!!!! Clean establishment with staff that I could've called friends. The range itself had two separate sections for regulars and professionals. Not at anytime did I feel unwelcome, belittled or even uncomfortable. This will be my home range!! read more

They made my first shooting experience so easy. The staff was super friendly and helpful. You have to be a member to shoot here, membership is inexpensive, and you just do a quick orientation your first time. During the orientation they just go over all the rules and questions if you have any, takes 20 mins tops. I read some of the bad reviews, and this wasn't my experience at all- there were 3 guys behind the counter and they were all happy to assist my friend and I. One of them offered to keep my friend's rifle behind the counter so we didn't have to leave it out the car (we couldn't shoot it because they were out of stock on the ammo we needed for it), while another helped me pick out some targets and rang us up, and the last guy did my orientation. Again, they were all friendly and made me feel very comfortable with having zero knowledge, and were more than happy to assist and answer my questions. Also, just a heads up...they do tell you at the orientation that you will be turned away if you or anyone in your group comes in smelling like alcohol or marijuana as it would obviously be unsafe to allow anyone in that condition to use a firearm. Even if it's just one person the entire group will be turned away, so make sure everyone is 100% sober! read more

Prices have always been competitive and when they say they have an item in stock, it really is in stock. Shipping has always been fast and most of the time I've received my items in 2 business days.
