This is a rare gem tucked away in the tiny neighborhood of Firdale in Edmonds, WA that we stumbled upon after a trip to the nearby Kitty Catfe. We go here every time we're in the area now. Their menu is extensive, and everything we've tried is delicious and well priced for the quality ingredients and largish portions. I eat here everytime I come up from Portland and I'm never disappointed. Last night I ordered the lamb with garlic aioli and I'm still eating it today. We started with the walnut, pomenagrante molasses and red pepper dip, which was vinegary and unique with fresh pita. I'm sure they can't do everything right, but whatever they're doing wrong, I've yet to find. I had never heard of Caravan Kebab until I drove in to the quaint Firdale village for a meeting with another business. I finally stopped in for lunch today, and was overjoyed to find all those great dishes on one menu. The menu is not overwhelming either. The Chef seated us personally and took our order. I had the Chicken Masala. The chicken was perfectly cooked (fresh fresh fresh) and just the right amount of heat in the sauce. More and more friends were recommending this place, and I so I went. Not disappointed at all. First of all - my husband and I wanted to support a more family-run small business that actually stretches the imagination and flexible enough to tweak the menu over time for long-standing customers. As many writers here commented, the variety is quite amazing for a small restaurant as it endeavors to compact the Silk Road - from Europe, across the Middle east to Asia. And so you get pastas, to dips, to rolls to Asian curries. I felt catered to as a vegetarian, the portions just right - and variety enough with imagination (usually there is little understanding of balanced healthy food - these folk understand it well!). The prices for the various dishes are very competitive - I would say for this kind of offering actually rather surprising. The dips - delicious. I enjoyed the curries I ordered. We are very used to authentic dishes as we have traveled extensively in Asia and Europe, so I feel I can compare to the home turf. Having said that, the "hot" was more a medium-hot (for me). Wow! My little Mediterranean gem in the middle of almost nowhere. Everything from the eclectic, exotic, yet homely decor to the pleasant-faced staff providing the most delicious curries I've ever had has made this restaurant my new favorite when I visit my family in Washington. My mom and I shared the pita with LebaneseMuhammara spread, the cauliflower soup, and the butter chicken curry and fish masala. Every single dish was completely unique yet equally amazingly flavorful and filling. We then took two of the homemade chai teas home and this was all for under $30 and with leftovers to take home. Exceptional food and presentation. Seattle-Metropolitan is blessed with a plentitude of Mediterranean and Persian restaurants, but Caravan Kebab stands out among them. We were celebrating our 20th wedding anniversary (thank you) and my wife wanted to try something new to us in Edmonds. Research brought me to Caravan Kebab. We started with Kashke Bedenjam, a Persian eggplant spread that surpasses Baba Ghanoush. The eggplant was excellent, made more so by the generous helping of Kashke (whey) and sprinkling of pomegranate seeds. My wife had an old favorite, Chicken Fessenjan (pomegranate sauce), which was different from others she's had, not so sweet, but in no way inferior. I had lamb Shish Kebab. Chef Shazhad does something quite different with the spices; again, different, but not inferior. Being it was our 20th, we splurged on desserts; a wonderful mint ice cream with drizzled chocolate for her, and carrot huwal for me: both excellent. We intend to be back. 4.5 stars. read more

My family eats here from time to time - it's probably our favorite restaurant in the Edmonds area. The menu is very interesting & diverse as there are a variety of dishes from the middle east, Greece, and Russia. The owner is extremely nice and generous. He has lived in many different countries around the world (thus the variety of tasty recipes), and he will happily share about his experiences when asked. Tonight, we tried the cauliflower soup with truffle oil (from the daily specials menu, I think), and it was absolutely wonderful - rich and super tasty. Other foods that we love include the Persian salad, appetizers, Indian foods, a lamb dish, and the mango lassi. Service: Warm and friendly...simply put, I felt like entering the home of a family friend. This place was an oasis for my friends and me. We stumbled upon it in the middle of a road trip, delirious with hunger. They welcomed us in and helped us figure out the cuisine and how to order a fantastic meal. The owners were very friendly and humble and shared their story with us. I Not sure which one is the best... the food or the service! We were greeted immediately when we walked in, waited a brief moment as they put tables together for our party and sat down for a fantastic meal. We started with horiatiki salad---- presented as beautifully as it was delicious. I got to share and taste chicken tikki masala, shah karma, and lamb tagline. My favorite was the tikki masala. On the side, we ordered Garlic Naan It was served freshly made hot, which made it more delicious... yes, nan can be delicious. Then, we followed up with dessert... we shared fresh mint ice cream and carrot hula.....WOW..what a way to top off a great meal. You really need to experience the great service and delicious meals. The water glass with the white napkin in it looked nice but the water poured in it had a lot of black mold-looking bits floating in it and the language barrier made it impossible to be sure I could order foods that did not have peanuts. The food might be good, but the service is terrible. What is the use of good food without good customer service? May be they did not like black people in their restaurant? My wife and I had to wait for food for 22 minutes, after which we decided to leave. I was so patient and polite, and did not want to appear upset. However, my wife had to confront them to tell them how she felt. We felt so embarrassed that even walk ins and take outs were served faster. As we were leaving, the Cook came out to apologize, but it was too late. Sorry, but we had to take our business somewhere else, where good customer service was the norm. read more

The meat was seasoned to perfection and melted in your mouth also the veggies which were red and green peppers were another amazing experience. One of my friend recommended this place and showed me the menu. it was impressive so I went with my father who is a little tough customer and specific about what he wants :-). To my surprise, my dad loved the food. He was praising all along while we were at the restaurant and even after coming back. I was stunned with all the dishes. It was soo tasty. This will be one of our favorite restaurant and cant wait to take my wife there now. The place is nicely decorated, with correct light setting and cozy. If you are planning to spend a nice weekend dinner with your spouse, this will be it. It was not heavly crowded on a friday. They can make from mild to Indian hot (i mean real indian/pakistani hot). They will even ask you if you want green or red pepper and pepper type. The service was simply awesome. The chef who is also the restaurant owner was too nice. He introduced himself as Shazad and was extremely kind to hear every single specification my dad gave :-). He comes and meet everyone in the table and gives special attention. The waitress were no less. You might wonder why the food is very tasty and I heard from my friend that chef makes everything from the scratch - not made in the afternoon or previous day. Every dish has its unique flavor and taste.. and it is not like same type curry.. One more note.. the chef mentioned that he uses only halal and thats another reason why it is tasty and the meat is premium grade.. not the frozen chickens/lamps from superstores. Normally i dont eat chicken much, but its flavor dragged me to taste it and believe it or not it was mouth-watering. Lastly all the 4 dishes, bread came at the same time in perfect warm condition. My father, brother and I just returned from a delicious dinner at Caravan Kebab. We thoroughly enjoyed authentic Persian salad, vegetable pakoras, and three different types of kebabs plates, beef, chicken, and lamb, all of which were so flavorful and satisfying it's hard to give the food the praise it deserves through words alone. I can still taste the coriander, garlic, cilantro and all the other fresh spices that the talented and personable chef and owner Shahzad imbued into his cuisine. I cannot recommend the restaurant highly enough. If you are looking for legitimate Middle Eastern food, Caravan Kebab is the only place to go to. read more

The restaurant has a very diff. Vibe you can tell the owners work there and care for it, however the food was not all that great we had two diff spreads with pita I did not enjoy the spread at all it had a very odd flavor. For the food we had two diff dishes one was dumplings and if was just awful I did not eat anything at all the end the owner realized that I did not eat anything and he did not offer to refund or change the dish all he did was ask me if I wanted a box. Over all we are not coming back the food is a 1 the service a 2 and I just don't think it's worth the price . read more

It's been a long time since I literally couldn't believe how good food can be....and this place is something else!! It's a hidden gem and I really hope, because of that, that its business thrives. Their food is simply out-of-this-world amazing. We had the Kashke Bademjan (eggplant, yogurt, lemon, onion, mint and olive oil) and Lebanese Mohamara (roasted red bell peppers, garlic, olive oil, lemon, chili seed, pomegranate sauce and walnuts) as appetizers. They are dips served with warm naan. To say these dips are good is such an understatement....the complexity of flavors is so rare....how do they do it??!! We followed with Pomegranate Chicken (chicken breast stuffed with walnuts, pomegranate sauce, cranberries and served with rice and vegetables). You know how "served with vegetables" is usually a sick mix of stuff on the side? These were warm slivered carrots and peppers with some sort of magic that makes them a highlight of this dish. Another hidden gem. Downtown Edmonds is our usual go-to for dinner but we've wanted to check out this place in the Firdale center. It looks very nondescript on the outside but it's very charming within. And the food - very tasty indeed! I had the chicken kebabs, husband had the lamb - both were moist and flavorful.
