Hush puppies, Chili cheese, Texas, and Kraut

After driving past here one too many times, I had to stop by and see what the rave was about. There was always a line whenever I was just passing by. So this time, I decided to give Capt'n Franks a try. The Food: The food here, were just okay. Nothing to tell home about. Just quick, fast service that gets the job done if you're craving a good hot dog. I went with the Texas Dog, Kraut Dog and the Chili Cheese Dog. All of them tasted good. However, I did order a side of hush puppies. And, those were awful. No flavor in the batter whatsoever and no amount of dipping sauce could have saved it. The Service: Service was fast and easy. Wait in line, order at the front and they'll either deliver to your table or call your number. The Atmosphere: Nice beach vibes that gives a feeling like this is a hidden gem or a must-go too spot. Cool place with seating indoors and on the roof as well. Overall, a 3/5. I understand they're hot dogs, but there wasn't much of a wow factor I saw. Definitely give this a place a try though! All the combinations looked and sounded good.

Cute place! Stopped for lunch and honestly, great hot dogs. Staff was super nice. Kids liked how the food orders went down the line!

Honestly I think their price is a little high because it is not a beef hot dog, although you can order one for 10 bucks Anyway You Want It seriously I was craving a hot dog and I'd heard amazing reviews this place. Very friendly service I love crinkle fries I just added to be a little expensive and I know we're in a tourist town so don't shoot me down next time I'll get the all beef and pay the $10, I bet it will be 100% better

This place is an institution that we love to frequent. They have been around since the 70's. Hotdogs in all forms are the food of choice. I am a basic hotdog man. Give me onions and mustard and I'm happy. They have all sizes of dogs. We try not to order those addicting crinkle cut fries but they always seem to be an added partner to the dogs. They are always hot. Walk up to the counter to order. If you inside they walk your tray of dogs over to you. In the summer months, you will need to wait in a line. There is outdoor seating and a decent shared parking lot.

I judge every hotdog restaurant the same way, I order a West Virginia style hotdog and a Chicago style hot dog and sometimes fries or the closest variants to those that I can and trust me, I've eaten thousands of hot dogs in my day. Let's just say that whoever came up with the menu didn't really know anything about hot dogs. A proper Chicago dog should be on a poppy seed bun, all beef hot dog, sport peppers, yellow mustard, green relish, onions, tomatoes and celery salt. Anything else is blasphemy, especially ketchup. Capt'n Franks calls a Chicago Dog mustard, onions, chili & coleslaw....which is a West Virginia style hot dog...they don't even have coleslaw and chili in Chicago! SMDH. 0 stars for mixing this up and not even realizing it. A proper WV dog has mustard, onions, chili & coleslaw. It must be hot dog chili, no beans!--which the chili here fits the definition and is pretty good 4 stars. Coleslaw must be flavorful and not runny but was pretty average here 3 stars. Onions sweet. So the fake Chicago dog masquerading as a WV dog was just okay as far as WV style hot dogs go. My second dog was the BLT dog and it was pretty bad. I'm guessing they used the cheapest lettuce and tomatoes they could find, overcooked some low quality bacon and sprinkled it on. Another 0 stars for this hot dog. The crinkle cut fries were average run of the mill fries, probably GFS fries the same ones most small restaurants uses. Nothing special here. Service was average. I do give them a star for the styling and decor. The parking lot is all gravel so if you're on a motorcycle beware (some riders struggle with gravel lots). There's plenty of parking. Probably wouldn't eat here again with all of the other great options in the area.

Great hidden gem of the Outer Banks. Only open Wed - Sat from 10-3p. Walk up & order at the counter. Quick service & Reasonable prices with a larger variety of Dogs & fries.

My husband and I had two foot long hotdogs. I got chilly on mine. The chilly wasn't very good. However the beef hotdogs were very good. Which surprised me because normally I don't like the beef kind at all. I love the bad for your health regular ones best! The employees were very friendly and helpful. This place has inside seating and two kinds of seating outdoor too. One right outside in the front and one on the roof. I really wished I tried their fries out, that's my only regret! They also serve beer here. They have very fast service. I only waited 5 minutes or so and our food was ready to go!

I got the foot long with chili and onions. Wife got the standard with kraut. Everything was delicious.

    Upstairs seating and no crowds

Fast, friendly service. Hotdogs were yummy. We ate them because they were so good. Sorry no pics. Upstairs was less crowded and lots of open seating.Chili cheese w/ onioins, Texas, and Chicago hit the spot. I only got 1 and hubby got 2...should have gotton

Capt'n Franks Hot Dogs is a MUST! A+++, 5 Stars, 10/10!! My wife and I came across Capt'n Franks during our first trip to OBX and it instantly became a favorite. It's conveniently located off MP 4.5 Croatan Hwy and offers ample parking spaces nearby. The service is phenomenal - fast and friendly. The menu features a good number of options, so there's surely something for everyone. My personal favorite was the Junkyard Dog (the works, 8 toppings) and the Capt'n's Foot Long - fresh ingredients, prepared to perfection and loaded with flavor! I recommend getting the Cheese Fries too - they are delicious! Can't wait to make Capt'n Franks our first stop next time we are in the area!

The food Anyway you want a hotdog. The decorations inside and out are fun. Service is very fast so don't worry about the line out the door.

Good hot dogs, my favorite was the Chicago. My only knock is the very limited seating and not so friendly service.

The restaurant has two distinct dining areas: the front section is first-come first-served bar seating that offers the full menu. The back section, which would be ideal for families, holds about 30 tables, mostly booths, with the hostess stand. We chose to sit at the bar and had a great experience. We started with bruschetta topped with burrata cheese. I ordered the angel hair pasta in a white garlic butter, cream sauce with marinated chicken and grilled vegetables. My husband ordered the special hamburger with Swiss cheese bacon, spinach and mayo with a side of fries. We ended with slices of the key lime pie that didn't disappoint! The food, service, staff and environment were exceptional! We overheard the Server mention that veterans receive complementary meals on Veterans Day, which speaks volumes about how this restaurant supports those who have served. It's housed in an old train car which is really cool (there's additional seating in a building attached to the car). The bar is nicely stocked with a lot of local beers and spirits.
