Great food and a great place to relax with friends. We took a ride up from Bergen County on our motorcycles - we were able to sit out back near the sand, which is great for kids to play while the parents enjoy some drinks. Fried pickles were a great starter - everyone had a good variety of food; from the grilled chicken panini, burger, chili, boneless wings to the ruben sandwich - All plates were cleaned and stomaches were satisfied. I made reservations for dinner. They asked if I had a preference on a table, I said no but it will be a birthday dinner so someplace cozy would be nice. When we arrived we were asked if we would be staying to see the band perform. We said yes. They sat us in a separate room from the band, next to cold drafty garage doors. My BF and I were here once over two years ago and I had forgotten about it. I remembered I liked it though. We went back last weekend and ate in the dining area (apparently there are several dining areas and bars, and the one that's a sports bar is filled with people I would not want to be around BTW). Elegant, pretty atmosphere and attentive, friendly staff. I had the halibut and it was delicious. My BF had a huge steak and liked it too. Homemade cornbread! Yum! Great drinks. Check out the seashell candles on the bar, too--very pretty. A band was coming on at 10 pm and it was super crowded by then, so if that's your thing, get there way before it so you can get a seat. The plan was to go to the Renaissance Fair in Sterling Forest but because my niece has a power chair, and we didn't get there early enough, there was absolutely no place for us to park the giant lift van. We had taken a 2 Hour Drive to get there so we decided instead of just going home to find a place to have lunch. We checked our map app for local eateries and The Captains Table was only 10 minutes away so we made our way to Monroe, with concerns of whether or not it would be wheelchair accessible. The very first thing we noticed that was a really pleasant surprise was the double doors at front did not have that center bar that prevented ease of access with the wheelchair. Once you get in the lobby was huge and the staff immediately offered any accommodations we might need. Accessibility to the table areas was not very different from any other restaurant, however, it was certainly spacious enough for my niece to get through, and there were no step ups that were impassable. We decided on the bar area because my niece's powerchair has a hydraulic lift that allows her to raise up to that bar table level... The food was really good. The potato skins were made from scratch, not frozen , and the turkey burger was big and very tasty, the prices were reasonable, and it was very clean. Even if you don't have wheelchair accessibility issues, I would highly recommend this place whenever you are in Monroe New York! read more

The young Lady who took my order was distracted (listening to someone else) and evidently did not put the order in causing me to wait 20 mins with no hint of me getting food. Seemed like a cool place. I came here with some people to grab a few drinks. I will update once I have the food. The bar was nice and in one of the main dining areas they had a live band playing. Just got back from visiting my old town, Monroe. One of the dining places I miss the most is the Captains Table. It was nice to go back and have a couple of cold beers and dinner with my wife. As always the service was attentive, the atmosphere great, and the food was very good. They have the best chicken wings in Orange County- if not the entire Hudson Valley. And they have the best selection of tap beers in the Monroe area. I don't recall ever having a bad meal here. There wait staff, bar tenders, and owners provide a great dining and social experience. You can't go wrong. And in the summer time, when the after deck is open, it is a fun and enjoyable place to be. read more

I have been here twice within two weeks. On my first visit I ordered a grilled blackened shrimp salad that was delicious. my second visit was on Father's Day. I was elated that we were able to make reservations as most restaurants won't take reservations on special days. I ordered a scallop dish that was on the specials menu. It tasted well but the smell was a bit strong for me. Two orders were ordered at my table however I do believe that you shouldn't smell fish so strongly. Again it was good so if anything happens to my stomach I will revise this rating. They had a band playing music with a nice variety of selections but the music was way to loud. we go here every year for Mother's Day,,,and birthdays, etc. However, yesterday was terrible. Our server was EXTREMELY inattentive and I , as the mom, did not receive my entree until after my family was done eating. When I did, the catch of the day, several types of seafood, was burned,, clam shells,,,burned??? when I finally just had to send back, my new entree was full of butter. Made for a disaster of a Mother's Day. NOT FAMILY FRIENDLY. Upon entering restaurant my husband was told by hostess that my 3 yr old and 1 1/2 yr old could absolutely not have their small containers of French fries from McDonald's in the restaurant. She insisted he take them away, which he did, my daughter was crying terribly as a result. Our meal was miserable afterwards. It's one thing to prevent an adult from bringing in outside food but to do it to toddlers is inexcusable. I reached out to the manager who considers French fries to be a meal. I asked if families with children who have sippy cups and snacks to tide them over till the food comes are welcome, she responded with- our policy is no outside food. read more

Had the best time at The Captain's Table last night. The service was friendly and the food was delicious. The inside of the restaurant is very comfortable and inviting, but we decided to sit outside at "The Afterdeck" so we could see the band. There is a 1/3-acre sand beach adjacent to the Afterdeck where all the kids could play. It was like being at the Jersey shore. The place was packed, but we were handed a beeper which notified us when our table was ready. We sat at the bar for a while and listened to the music, before being seated. They had a great bar staff and wonderful beer on tap. We didn't want to leave. If you are looking for great hospitality, excellent food & drink, and a nice atmosphere, I would highly recommend The Captain's Table. read more

Service is average. Food is unpredictable, some times it's good and sometimes it's bad. Last night I took my family in for dinner and ordered basic meals. The hamburgers were overcooked and cold when they came out. Portions were small. My wife ordered ravioli, it was just ok. Salads were extremely small.
