Well, I am probably going to be the outlier here. Is an 8 Buck shrimp burger a steal? Probably. Is it loaded with scrimps? You betcha. But it is the littlest bun and the littlest shrimps. For a few bucks more, I still stand by the BO, with its big steamed buns, medium sized seasoned (not just fried) shrimp, and the tartar, cocktail, ketchup and/or coleslaw applied during construction, not from squeeze packs after the fact. read more

Don't let the fact that Captain's Kitchen is a food truck fool you, they had their s**t down! We were greeted with an enthusiastic and welcoming "Hello!" We ordered at one window and waited for our names to be called. They only take cash here and include tax in their prices which is nice. They have coolers out front with drinks to pick from and a nice selection of sauces. Do note that this is a takeout spot. You can eat in your car, but they wrap it up pretty nice to take home (or to the beach) to eat. I came here to try the famous shrimp burger. I think I had a misunderstanding of what a shrimp burger would be. I thought the shrimp would be grinded into a patty, however the shrimp burger is just fried shrimp inside a burger bun with coleslaw. I wish I had gotten more bang bang sauce. The burger itself was pretty decent. I found the shrimp to be pretty plain, I was hoping for more flavor. The burger as a whole with the bang bang sauce was a nice combo, but not something I'd go out of my way to get again. I'm still really happy I tried it! I was in search of a good seafood sandwich and I found the Captains Table on yelp. I almost got the shrimp burger because the reviews rave about it but when I saw they had Mahi on the menu, I knew that's what I had to get!!! It was SO. GOOD. And the portion of fish that was given on my sandwich was unreal. It was light and flaky, just the way Mahi should be. They offer coleslaw on their sandwiches and have coolers nearby for sauces if you want added flavors. They are currently located in Salter Path area but their food truck will go back to Morehead in the fall. The service was super friendly and quick! And it's all outdoor seating or eat in your car but on this beautiful day, we sat out front on the provided umbrella tables. Thanks yall! read more

Amaaaaazing. We came several times during our vacation and it was great every time. We only tried the shrimp burger and the scallop burger though. I got the scallop snack though because I didn't want the bun. The have a huge menu with crab cakes and other fish burgers. The scallops were my favorite. I was scared to try them because I've never liked fried scallops before. These were SO GOOD. They were lightly breaded and still juice. They were a nice size too. So goooood. The shrimp was good too. Def the best one we've had, but the scallops were the best. They have coolers outside the truck that are filled with various drinks too. OH EM GEE! This place was bomb.com I was charging my car, getting ready for my trek back to Northern Virginia. I was hungry and so I opened the app to go to Yelp! The customer service is on point and the sauces... This food had me licking my fingers and smacking. And if anyone knows me, I hate when people smack when they eat. I love the shrimp burger so much that I can't speak for any of their other food - I get it every time! This food truck proudly boast that they are better than the Big Oak Drive-In located just down the street. They both offer shrimp burgers along with other seafood burgers and platters along with sides. However, to be honest, both of these places are equally bad. Captain's Kitchen shrimp burgers is served on a brioche bun with slaw and a large portion of shrimp, leaving plenty of shrimp to eat after the burger is done. Unfortunately these shrimp lacked flavor, the coating was soggy and lacking in the flavor department as well. The chicken tenders were small and were lacking flavor as well. It's Groundhog Day... the shoestring French fries were greasy and lacked flavor. All the Captain's Kitchen brings is a lot of bravado. Unfortunately the taste and quality of their food is severely lacking. It's only better than the Big Oak because you get more shrimp here. To me, there isn't much love or creativity put into their cooking or the creation of their menu. You don't make yourself a better restaurant by putting down the competition. read more

I've been dying to come here since I read the Yelp reviews about a year or two ago. In this time of physical distancing, I figured that a food truck would be a great idea. So I made my way down to Salter Path to try this awesome truck. The GPS initially led me to a different location but thankfully they have a phone number here that I was able to call. I was warmly greeted over the phone and he patiently explained to me where they were set up. When I arrived I informed the gentleman that it was my first time and I he went out of the way to explain things and make my experience special. I ordered the half shrimp have clam strip basket and an order of fries. While I was making my sauces, my meal came out hot and fresh. Everything I had was absolutely delicious. The shrimp were tender and sweet and perfectly seasoned as were the clam strips. The fries were perfectly crispy on the outside with a soft inside and the seasoning was out of this world. Their coleslaw was awesome very good which is saying a lot being that I'm not really a coleslaw person. What really blew me away Was that the portion was so big that there was no way I can finish it all. So I wrapped up the leftovers and left them in the car while I enjoyed the beach. When I got back to the car, I ate the leftovers and even though they weren't fresh they were absolutely amazing. I also added a bit of their house sauce which spicy ranch sauce which crazy good and packed the perfect spicy punch. i've been to Captain's multiple times over the past 2-3 years ... i am a NC native and been coming to the Crystal Coast area (specifically EI, Salter Path and AB), wife and i had a mobile home in SP for 30+ years, so we were down here most weekend) for many years (40+) we have been a strong advocates of El's (morehead city) and Big Oak (salter path) eating at either one or sometimes both on most trips ... but i have to say Captain's surpasses both in quality and quantity at comparable price points ... I don't eat a lot of fried food, so when I do splurge, I go here. Be sure to get their spicy sauce to add to your burger. Your burger will come with coleslaw if you want it to. If you're like me, you'll get both the slaw & the sauce. As of late 2021, a burger is $7. It's cash only. Really friendly owner as well. If you're visiting Emerald Isle, you have to check it out. My Mom and I ate here for lunch when while my husband and the kids were at the beach. The food here was on of the beast meals we had on the island. I highly recommend eating here at least once during your stay at Emerald Island. We split the soft shell crab plate. Between the two of us we still couldn't eat half of it. The servings are huge!!! Their fries are amazing. They are fresh and crisp. The crab was just amazing. They even throw in a bunch of shrimp which was a nice surprise. They are very reasonably priced.
