This morning we went to get a cup of coffee at 8:05am. Coffee is supposed to be available @ 7am. Not open. 5 other guests were waiting patiently. Could we ask the office? No it wasn't open either. It finally opened at 8:10am. 4. Oh by the way, bring your sunglasses for Your room. The only lighting is spot lights in the ceiling. Nothing you can control from bed side. Were there any dimmers to adjust the lighting down from solar flare to reasonable. Nope. Just the palm of my hand or sunglasses. Again By the way, the Cambria area is awesome with some great wholesome dining experiences. Linn's and Robin's. Wow! We've stayed along Moonstone over the years. Just never @ the Cambria Shores Inn. Guess what? Never again because there are lots of choices along Moonstone. I'd like to rate it a 1 star. But, Mother Nature helped take the feeling of total disappointment away. A call to the night manager Friday night did nothing to stop it. But at the same time, it's not as if they were partying or shouting. They were simply walking around, and I was unlucky enough to be in the room below them in a place that clearly wasn't built to be a hotel. I've stayed in countless hotels with people above me, and this is the first time in my life that I've paid them any mind or had the urge to report a noise complaint. Which again...they were just walking, which they technically have a right to do, despite how annoying it was to me at the time. The room was a bit overpriced to begin with, so this only made me regret that much more. Two stars instead of one since the property was still nice with a prime location. But if you have your heart set on this place, book a room on the second floor. Other reviews show that I'm not the first person to have this issue.

He was so accommodating, genuine, kind and such a nice guy to talk to. He really stood out during our stay. The rooms are super comfy with plush pillows, a fireplace and cool soaps to shower with. Another highlight is the morning basket delivered to the room each morning. It included pastries, coffee, OJ & even champagne. They offer hot fresh baked cookies in the evening, s'mores by the fire-pit, cocktails, wine and small bites. The gem of a hotel is located right across the street from the beach and has an entrance to the walking boardwalk. I highly recommend this hotel & cant wait to go back. Never seen anything like this. In the mornings they bring you a picnic basket with a thermos full of coffee, some pastries and a do it yourself mimosa. The hotel has easy access to the moonstone boardwalk that runs along the bluffs. Easy walk to the boardwalk and to the beach to enjoy the sunset. Need to come back to stay at this place.

The highlight of the room was the Ocean front patio. Not bad. Not bad at all. They do give you breakfast. You order off a small menu of "breakfast wraps". AKA breakfast burritos where we come from. There was also a yogurt option. The wraps (breakfast burritos!) were big and served hot. We both ate about 1/4 of each and called it a day. This was a good option when staying in Cambria.

The place changed ownership a few years ago and the new owner is great -- very responsive to text messages and made sure we were taken care of. Rooms are large, clean, and safe. It was a great place to stay with my wife and our dog. There's even a dog towel to wipe sandy paws which Baxter appreciated. Boardwalk access is directly across the street. There are only four rooms and the place is at the north end of Windrush Beach so it's quiet but not isolated. There are not a lot of amenities along the beach, so you definitely need a car to get around. We hope to stay here again when we need pet friendly accommodations.

For $350+ a night, I expected a little more. The room looked…read moredecent enough at first, but the strong musty smell and stained carpet quickly changed that impression. We were also tucked way in the back in a dark corner of the property, which wasn't exactly inviting. Then the little things started adding up. The shower curtain rod was pulling out of the wall, the wallpaper around the shower was loose from moisture, and the ice bucket still had trash from the previous guest in it. At that point, it starts to feel less like an older coastal hotel and more like nobody is really checking the rooms. The pool was half empty with green water sitting at the bottom. Maybe it was under repair, but it definitely wasn't usable. Housekeeping is another strange setup. If you want your room cleaned, you have to request it the day before, and then repeat that request every day. You can't just ask for service for your whole stay. At check-in we were told they used to offer complimentary breakfast, but the new company stopped. The alternative was to walk down the street to another hotel and pay about $20. The next morning my wife went for hot water for tea and they were out. The suggestion was to use the coffee maker in the room. That works, I suppose, if you like your tea with a little coffee flavor. The guy at the front desk wasn't rude, but his attitude was very much, "it is what it is." And to be fair, I've stayed in worse places. The difference is, those places usually charged a lot less. For $350+ a night, FogCatcher is asking you to overlook quite a bit.

We left the windows cracked open at night in order to hear the sounds of ocean waves crashing onto the rocks. The breakfasts were amazing, the hosts (located nearby at The Blue Dolphin Inn) were very friendly and accommodating, and the entire experience left us wanting more!
