Captain Kitt's is a very unique pet boarding facility that caters to cats. They have various boarding options, including views of bird feeders and fish tanks. No dogs or other stressors, just a tranquil kitty friendly atmosphere. We brought our prior cat here before he passed, as he had a heart murmur, and we wanted him to have more supervision when we were away. We now have two new kittens, who are both special needs, and wanted to make sure that medication was administered as needed. So even though it's 30 minutes from our house, we feel it's worth the drive for the care that they receive. Our girls (who are sisters) shared a unit. This helped with costs as the price is per unit, not per cat. The owner, Val, suggested a horizontal unit, because one of our girls has cerebellar hypoplasia and can't climb up onto other levels. It was thoughtful of her to think of that, I wasn't thinking about the implications of the unit shape or size, I just wanted them to have space and a nice view. The facility is very clean - when you go in, you don't smell cats at all...which is a major accomplishment when there are so many cats (and litter boxes) in such a small space. And they send photos and videos of your cats to you so that you know everyone is doing well. I was concerned about boarding my 17 year old cat when we went on vacation. Not only is she elderly but also her usual boarding place had changed hands and was only boarding dogs. I had heard very good things about Captain Kitts and my initial conversations with owner Val made me comfortable about trying a new boarding facility. I was very happy with the care that my cat, Fiona, received at Captain Kitts. It is a lovely, clean, safe place that has been carefully thought out and arranged for cat comfort, health and happiness. Captain Kitts is immaculate and has great fun distractions for the boarders, and Val is very hands on and knowledgeable about all things cats!. She even sent me a video of my cat to make sure I was comfortable knowing she was in good hands. She also came home with an evaluation of how and what she did while we were away. I cannot say enough great things about Captain Kitts! My husband and I had never boarded our 5 year old cat, Mango, anywhere before. We were nervous pet parents. Val, the owner assured us that they would take the best possible care of Mango. We were impressed by the videos we'd watched, that Captain Kitts is kept meticulously clean, and that only cats belonging to the same household are allowed to socialize together. On the day we arrived, Val gave us a tour (pre-arranged), and we were even more impressed and knew that our kitty would be well cared for. Because Mango eats only prescription food, we brought in his food, with feeding instructions. He wasn't eating (probably nervous), so the tech started petting him and he ate. When she stopped petting him, Mango would stop eating. So, the tech pet Mango the whole time he ate & talked sweetly to him. Eating 4 meals a day required a lot of pets, so we are grateful for all the time she took making him feel comfortable enough to eat. From the feedback we received, Mango adapted very well. Captain Kitt's is the place you can leave your kitty and totally feel at ease. There are several choices for boarding - size of cage, different views and extra amenities. You can call and schedule a time to come in and review the place and doing that will do more than any review to make your comfortable. What I think it important to convey in my review is I used Captain Kitt's over 10 years ago and last year and that gap of time saw the place only get better with age. This place rocks!!! Valerie is one of those people that you can tell right away how sweet and caring she is. The facility is super clean and well decorated with a fish tank in the middle, visible from all "condos." She has a variety of different types of spaces. When I first called, my first preference (the second to cheapest one where kitty can see both the fish tank and the outside--with lots of birds) was booked. But when I got to the boarding, Valerie told me that someone had cancelled at the last minute, so my cat was able to enjoy birdwatching after all. They have a larger room where each cat gets taken out to be played with on an individual basis. PLUS... the kitties get "catnip cocktail" each afternoon! My cat apparently loved it. It's a little catnip tablet. PLUS... PLUS... it's PIRATE THEMED! (Hence "Captain") It can't get any better than this. My cat was so content (and fatter, definitely fatter) when I got back. We have boarded our two male teenage (9 months old) cats here, and I can't recommend it enough! The place is immaculate and is equipped with so many amenities to keep the cats happy and occupied. The unit where our boys were located had a window looking out at a bird feeder. There is also a large fish tank and an indoor large bird cage within sight of most of the units. In addition, Val takes the cats out each day to a separate playroom that has multiple levels for climbing and a windowed door that allows the "guests" to look out to a patio. Val keeps her clients updated with text photos and videos, so you feel confident that your cats are being well taken care of. This is a wonderful facility! read more

We love Captain Kitts ! We have been taking our two cats there for the past 8 years. Two years ago we added a third cat to our family. He also goes, and even as a young kitten settled right in to the routine . All three of our cats have always had the best care, and are healthy and happy when we return from vacation or other trips. The facilities are right onsite in Val and Tim's home. They do a wonderful job with all the cleaning and keeping everything very organized. Our three cats just recently stayed all together in one large suite for 10 days in the newest area called "catfish cove". It is so serene with the smaller personal fish tanks, picture windows, outside bird feeders to view and the beautiful fountain in the middle of the room...my husband said that he'd wish he could stay there! (I do believe that their vacation was more relaxing than ours!) We are always able to reach Val and Tim them while we are away. Pictures and video are sent for myself and my husband with ease via phone/email...(pet parents missing their babies...) . I am such a fanatic about how great Val and Tim at Captain Kitts are...now my in laws even check in with them and view the videos from where they live (out of state) to see all of our babies while we are away! THE BEST PLACE EVER FOR YOUR CAT TO STAY!! Our cats have had the pleasure of staying at Captain Kitt's for many years when we have gone out of state or on vacation. Val, her husband and staff treat your cat or cats as their own. They go to great lengths to make sure pet is comfortable, happy and feels safe and cared for. We have two new rescues that were not well socialized due to our very small Covid bubble. They are timid and did not know anything beyond our home. Val and her staff gently worked with them to make sure they were comfortable and felt safe, which in turn made us feel really relieved. We boarded our previous cat many times at Captain Kitt's and Tiger loved being there and he was a finicky cat. The atmosphere is so fun and lots of things to keep them busy and happy yet relaxing in the evening so the can wind down and rest. I cannot imagine boarding our cats anywhere else. This is an update on Captain Kitt's Cat Boarding in Clinton, Ct. I thought it was as good as it could get in 2012 when I wrote my first review. I was wrong.... it was great back then and now it is simply spectacular. Val and Tim have expanded!! Check out their web page and the Utube videos. The area of the cats living/boarding has substantially increased and none of amenities have decreased but expanded as well. I know of nothing in the Connecticut area that can compare with them. It is a ~cat's only~ facility where your cat never has to share space with dogs! My cats are happy and well cared for and that allows me to enjoy my time away without worry. Fabulous place!!! Owner is so kind, and took such great care of my cat. Really nice facility. I was so happy when my vet told me about Captain Kitts! We have a good and trustworthy cat sitter that would come in twice a day while we were away. Our cat's still seemed stressed when we got back. We tried Captain Kitts for our last trip in January 2020. Beforehand, the website was very helpful and Val (owner) answered my texts right away! When I brought our cats, it was my first time seeing the facility, except online, and it's everything the website says and shows! Both of our cats are timid, Val had the perfect place for both of them. One was in an area with her own window so she could see birds whenever she wanted! The other one, an older cat, was in the quiet room so she could sleep. :) Of course we missed our babies when we were away. We texted Val everyday and she was always friendly, helpful and quick to respond and update us about our cats. She even sent us a video of our cats! Will board my cats again! read more

Val and Tim are the best! They have mastered the art of feline only boarding. I am a local veterinarian in the area and when anyone asks me where the best place to board their cat is I send them to Captain Kitts! You can't ask for a cleaner, more serene place to board your cat. The prices are extremely reasonable, the service is excellent and I have not found another place along the shoreline that is even comparable in terms of the level of care provided to cats. Valerie is the best! My kitty is 5 years old and has been going to "kitty camp" since he was 6 months. I never, ever worry about him when we travel. He was so familiar with his "condo" when I dropped him off, he just turned his tail to me and settled in. I was so relieved! When I picked him up I was happier to see him then he was to see me.
