My mom and I had a meal here a couple of weeks ago. The service was fine but the food has changed since the last time I ate here. The main complaint we both had was that the beading was thicker than the fish I had and in my mom's case it was thicker than her shrimp. Had a taste for some seafood and there seems to be that Long John's Silver are long extinct. I was curious about their menu and noticed that they had a similar menu to my favorite. My boyfriend and I decided, well honestly I decided. We had the 2-pc fish with garlic & herb shrimps, which came with coleslaw, fries, hushpuppies. We also added two pieces of chicken. We started eating and the fish was very crispy and crunchy, the batter was similar to my favorite, the fries were hot and crispy and the shrimp was on point me adding a little bit of cocktail sauce. Let's talk about the chicken, well seasoned fried it had a little Cajun twist flavoring, if you ask me. It was delicious. I forgot to mentioned that we had an iced sweet tea for our drink. I received good service, pretty much you place your order with the cashier and you seat yourself in the dining area. Now, one of the servers will deliver your food to the table. The time that I went to the restaurant, it was pretty empty, we were the only ones there. The dining area was clean and all the chairs were organized to their table. I really can not complain about the service I received. Eating here brought some nostalgia to my life since Long John's are now an extinct species in South Florida. Captain's are more located towards the cities of Orlando and Jacksonville area. So a few weeks ago, just regular sized cups of sweet iced tea that came with our orders were PERFECT again - no "off" smells or tastes. This was a to go order. The next time we tried a whole jug of tea again to go - that one was perfect. Then the next time after that we tried large sized cups of tea to go. The molasses-like scent and taste was back. We noticed that none of the big jugs that were stored underneath the tea counter had lids on them - so they were just sitting there exposed to the elements (dust, exterminators, what have you). After the last problem with the jugged tea we just got large cups to go and they were awful again - same problem. Something's going on with the tea-making itself. Have they changed tea brands or gone to a fake sweetener? Hope somebody can find out the problem and fix it soon; the food's good and the people are great, but sweet iced tea is almost sacred, in this heatwave. Thanks. read more

But ambiance was off having to hear the staff (and manager) talk out loud about the toilet filled being filled up with paper towels that needed to be cleaned out. I placed an order online from the captain Ds website. I bought a 10 piece family fish meal with fried okra and broccoli. The food arrived cold and soggy. I called the restaurant where the girl stated she didn't know what to do and that there was no manager there, and no one else who was there knew what to do. She kept me on the phone for almost 15 minutes while she tried to contact a manager, before eventually simply just hanging up on me even though I was patiently waiting for her to hear back from a manager. I even told her "it's ok take your time". No apology no solution. Very dissatisfied and won't be ordering captain Ds again. They used to be so good.... I like captain D's. Good price for large portions. I recommend drive through, there always seems to some customers here that look and act like they are taking lunch from a carnival somewhere. I don't hold the restaurant accountable however because carnies need to eat too. My only complaint is the catfish servings are baby sized and feels like an appetizer. Their fried fish and clam strips were exactly what I wanted: classic batter-fried seafood. Their sides and Sauces are rubbish, even by fast food standards. Some people consider Captain D's a fast food restaurant. I don't. I like the fact that you can go in there and choose from a variety of different seafood options that are fresh cooked, convenient and low priced. Kind of a guilty indulgence for me. Their food is always cooked to order hot and fresh. I like the sides. You can actually get a baked potato or broccoli there for lunch. You can't find that in many places. I think you save quite a bit when you use the coupons that come in the mail regularly. I do. The people are friendly and the restaurant is clean. Parking is easy. I like the availability of the different sauces that you can make up for yourself. I like that you can use regular steel forks and knives instead of just plastic if you want. I don't eat out much, but when I do want seafood, I come here. I love their Weds Senior day special, under $6 for a full 10 piece shrimp dinner with drink, great deal! Their food is usually good for fast food, and the price is right. For my fried shrimp dinner splurge (which is a real rare treat, only about 2 to 3 times a year), aside from one other restaurant, which is over near the beaches, this is my place. Not many options for fast food fish and chips - I think they have the only game in town. I miss LJS but this is what we have so...... Anyway, I've gotten used to what they serve at the D's. This location can be counted on for freshly fried "fish and shrimp." Unfortunately, they can also be counted on for cold fries. Idk how they do it but there has to be a new process defined. I was there today, at 5:15pm. There were several plumbing trucks outside and it was clear the drive thru was closed due to plumbing work outside the restaurant. I went inside to order. Cashier took one look at me, turned her back towards the food bins from the kitchen. She never looked back at me or spoke to me. She pretended to wait on an order. *,I've been in the restaurant business most of my life and even owned a diner* I could hear clearly the employees in the back talking loudly, laughing and dropping, repeatedly dropping the "F" bomb. Arrived about noon for lunch. There was a line which was to be expected but there was only 1 register open. After ordering, we made our way to dining room where we had to clean a table because they were all dirty. The food arrived -- the fish looked good, the meal looked good but the side salad was a bit brown and sad and we had to ask for salad dressing. While I have enjoyed the food at Captain D's for years at this shop. I am outraged at the lack of customer service. It is as if I did not exist until they finished the order they may have been working on. I stood in front of the register for over 2 minutes and no one , i repeat no one even noticed that i was there. No a wave of the hand, a smile, a Hi be right with you. Finally I asked If anyone wanted my business and if not I could go to Firehouse Subs less than a mil;e away. They seemed stunned .. The young lady seemed annoyed that i would do such a thing. The first thing they need to learn and I tried to explain is that they are the first thing a customer sees when you walk in and they deserved to be recognized. It takes just a second to say Hello, and if you do not you may very well loose a customer and someone might write a review.
