Great find in Hell's Kitchen. The pizza is amazing. There are a ton of creative pizza choices, all very good. The arancini are also great. The space is small and there's usually a crowd, so call for reservations. They serve beer and wine but no liquor here. read more

Meh... we came here for the first time two years ago and have been regulars since. The pizza is still good, but the service has really taken a dive. On our second to last visit they didn't have half the wine son the wine list, or clean wine glasses. Thirty minutes later we were given beer glasses with lip marks on them. The last time we weren't treated very nicely. We asked to sit at a different table rather than one right against the door, and they said we couldn't sit at one of the 5 empty four tops because "If we let you do it we have to let everyone." The next group of two came in, asked to be seated at a four top (when there were open two tops) and were told, "sure". I asked about it and got a defensive answer. Oh well.... there are other places. Shame though, the pizza is good. read more

We used to meet here all the time when one of us lived in the city and the other took the bus to NJ. It's situated right behind Port Authority -convenient if you're taking the bus but slightly awkward if you aren't. It's a really cute and intimate brick oven pizza place. There's not a ton of seats but it's great for parties of 2. It's cozy and warm inside. They have wine and beer, a few salads and apps, and the pizza! Margherita is always good but honestly their Del Nonno is where it's at. The tomatoes are so incredibly tasty and topped with just a light grating of cheese. When I'm in the area again - I'll definitely be back! read more

What a lovely small gem just half a block from our hotel near Times Square! We called ahead of time and made a reservation (a must, I would say!) It may not look like much from the outside... but we walked in with our group of four and were seated at our reserved table quickly. The wait staff was attentive and the service was prompt. The restaurant is decorated with quaint, old style Italian decor and makes you feel like you are eating at a little pizzeria in Rome. We enjoyed a bottle of wine, a delicious caprese salad, two pizzas (prosciutto & arugula and a bianca), and cannoli and tiramisu for dessert. The food was delicious and authentic. In keeping with total honesty, the wine is much overpriced for what it is... a bottle of Cupcake that I can buy in the store for $7 was $44. But overall, a very pleasant meal and a great little find! read more

Stop number 2 on my friend's annual pizza crawl was dedicated to Capizzi. And this was where I left the crawl. We ordered three large pies which are on the medium size, among two people probably fairly shareable for one or two, among like 10-12 people, it's a stretch for a sliver tasting but we stretched it. We went with a classic margarita, a formagi with mozzarella, provolone, taleggio, and pecorrino (which parmesan should always be a given and not counted as a quatro for the formagi), and the artichoke special in a pesto cream sauce with cherry tomatoes. Thoughts? For a large pie not being that huge and some of them nearly $30 I felt like I was being brutally taken advantage of, hit on the head, and coddled with gobs of cheese. I can be coddled but it won't make me forget how much that mouthful of sauce cost. The artichoke pizza was the worst and had a very bitter and sour tart after taste when I was hoping for creaminess. The quatro formagi was actually pretty great and the marinara with mozzarella is hard to eff up. The kicker was when people wanted to order cannoli in the ending of the dining experience. Note, they serve beer and wine here but no coffee or cappuccino, only espresso. The presentation of the deserts were beautiful. Instagram worthy. I wasn't offered any desert from my ravenous dining friends so I watched them nosh. They seemed to be content but they were also combined for two of them $15. I literally spent $12 on three tiny slivers of pie (half of a half a slice lol) and felt like I was on the most expensive pizza tasting crawl to date and just wanted it to end. I do like the antiquated feel of the place. Old fashioned pull the chain toilets, antique violin hanging from the wall, nice coal oven in the corner. Pizza wasn't bad and definitely 3.5 stars I just think it's a tad bit ridiculously over-priced however. Interestingly enough, Steve Harvey (the American comedian) claims its number 1. read more

3 freaking words...best pizza EVER. Me and my boyfriend stayed at the Yotel and were looking for a quick bite before exploring the city. We were so beyond surprised with how amazing of an experience we had. The music and atmosphere was so comforting and an experience within itself. Any restaurant that plays Frank Sinatra and Louis Armstrong immediately has my heart. We ordered a classic pepperoni pizza and both our jaws dropped after the first bite. We couldn't believe we were lucky enough to find such an amazing pizza place so early into our trip. We went there every single day for the rest of the trip. Going to Capizzi's will definitely be a tradition for our future New York trips. read more

Fantastic Neapolitan-style pizza. We ordered the Prosciutto and Arugula, the Formaggi, the Uovo, Loaded, and an all-veggie combo. Crust was crisp and charred perfectly, but with just enough chew to hold the toppings and make it delightful eating. My favorite two pizzas were the Uovo and the Formaggi. Recommend a Moretti (or three) and an Arugula salad. The vibe is quaint and small, and the oven is very warm, so if you like it warm, sit near if, and if you like it cooler, sit near the door. read more

Went here after hearing how great this place is..this was to be our first experience with NY style pizza, being from Chicago. The waitress seemed nice enough and took our order of two individual pizzas...we wait..and wait..and see everyone else get their pizzas (this was on a Wednesday night)..we see numerous pizzas being boxed up and brought out on deliveries. I see the guy making the pizzas is constantly on his cell phone texting and facebooking. The waitress says nothing after taking our order, even after 55 minutes of patiently waiting. Finally we ask when our pizzas will be ready. The guy making the pizzas says "oh..I'm about to make it"...so we're done and tell the waitress (she seems very indifferent and unapologetic) we are leaving. We'll find a better pizza easily..it's NYC...I don't recommend going to this place unless you are willing to waste at least 1.5 hours of your time read more

Absolutely delicious! We yelped this place because it was close to where we were at. Small establishment. But we got lucky and there was a table open when we arrived. We were greeted right away. The server got our drinks fast and was ready to take out order. Good service here. She was also helpful with recommendations on helping us make a decisions based on all of our preferences. The pizza we ordered came out super hot and looked delicious. Presentation was very nice. We are from California, and the pizza was as good as we hoped New York pizza would be. Pricing was super affordable, the establishment is clean, the ambiance is nice, the decor is creative, the service here is awesome and the food was absolutely delicious. The atmosphere was warm and cute (and with a live sax player tooting out covers of pop hits!), all a welcome surprise adjacent to Port Authority. The fried balls appetizer was crunchy and melty in the right places, but then they felt like they sat like stones in my stomach. The Messina pizza was loaded with roasted eggplant, salty olives, and an interesting unmelted ricotta salata cheese grated over it. The pizza was complete and detailed, but not my favorite, so I'd try another. read more

Great ambiance with a great selection of music. Their pizza is also great for two people especially if you get appetizers. I highly recommend getting the uovo pizza (egg) since it's unique and I haven't been able to find something similar in the city. The servers are also wonderful and very friendly. Rude staff. We went last night to meet some friends who were already dining there. The waiter was hesitant to sit us together so I told him whatever is easiest, we're ok with doing. The place was pretty empty, not sure what the issue was. He then proceeds to tell me that for a party 6 or larger the tip is included in the bill. Mind you this is before we're even seated. We all walked out. Obvious the waiter was not in the mood to serve us anything that night. read more

Amazing pizza without the crazy tourist hype. Small place but we've gone with a group of 7 and still got seated.

One of the best pizza spots I've ever been to. Everything tasted so fresh and delicious I wanted to keep eating more and more. Capizzi - 12" Prosciutto & Arugula Pizza - Pizza Near Me - New York, New York

Excellent pizzas in a tight space, although the menu feels authentic as does the space. The service is no nonsense professional. Bathroom is a bit lacking in tidiness, but overall a clean place directly under the PA buildings on 9th avenue. My son and I started with the fennel salad and then on to the pies. I had a sausage, my son had pepperoni, caramelized onion and mushroom, which is a featured combo for $18. Very nicely done true wood fired pizza, YUM. I would come back, however as some have noted, some of the items do feel overpriced. It is hard to have a generous meal here for under $50, we had no alcohol, and our bill was, $52 for two. But money aside, a great pizza indeed. Charred perfectly with amazing ingredients, especially the caramelized onions. The owners menu notes confirmed. read more

The pizza is delicious and authentic, I got what was essentially the meat lovers option, so savory and good. The crust is a bit more like the thin crust style but it was perfectly crispy and chewy. Perhaps it was because it was near a fish market but the restaurant had an odd odor inside, would still come back just for the food though! read more

Everything is not perfect! I went there with my friend. They had available tables but we waited 15 minutes for a table. We wanted the arugula salad. There was no goat cheese in the salad, no salad dressing! It was a dry salad. I can't say they made the perfect pizza. Because I ate better pizzas at another Italian restaurants. And also the waiter was very rude. It was terrible experience! I will never go again! read more

Odd location, but DELICIOUS PIZZA. This is a must try if you are in the area. The restaurant itself is small, but it creates such a wonderful experience. The decor is charming, and the staff is so kind and friendly. They'll answer any questions you have and are such down to earth and amiable people. My boyfriend found this place on yelp. The pizzas are personal pizzas, and we devoured it because it was so good. It was thin and crispy! So yummy. He got the Loaded pie and I got the prosciutto and funghi. We ended with a slice of their tiramisu. Our slice was a solid chunk, and it was so good. I've been to places where the alcohol isn't fully baked out or the flavors are imbalanced, but this tiramisu was amazing. We will definitely be coming back! Four stars because it was great, but the pricing was a little too much for me. **Plus, I'm stingy and only give a full 5 for really surprising and phenomenal experiences. read more

I loved the Pizza Margherita, personally it is the best option, I wanted to try more but I couldn't anymore.

Five stars is rare for me- but this one was properly earned. We stopped here after a show and were pleasantly surprised. Small place- homey like a family kitchen but with a large wood fired oven in the back. We were greeted by friendly staff in a prompt manner. I ordered my standard glass of Chardonnay and hubby tried to order a Corona but they brought him a Peroni nastro azzuro which ended up being a great lager. We ordered the Arancini spinaci and it really knocked my socks off. Four heavenly balls of rice, spinach, garlic and cheese that were perfectly fried, came to us in a very cute handled saucepan. I asked for a side of marinara and was accommodated. Honestly the arancini was excellent without the sauce- both ways were good. We then got a small special spinach pizza that came to the table with that perfect char you can only get from a wood fired oven. The crust was tender, airy and had nice crispness from the oven. Excellent ratio of spinach to cheese. The basil leaves on top were perfect. This was a really happy trip to Hells's Kitchen. Fantastic food and great decor! read more

We were craving food italian pizza a and lazy cooking on a rainy weekday night and ordered at this place. I had seen it before and it looks like a nice cozy family pizzeria. It was pricier than most places but the pizzas also looked awesome. So much for a disappointment ! Pizzas arrived in 40 minutes, which beat the ETA (we live at 10 minutes walk) but... they were cold. We had ordered supplement s (prosciutto, cheese and sweet sausage) that were not there. Our pizzas looked sad... We contacted them and got a replacement... on the express condition we returned the 1st delivered pizzas ! :-) No apologies or little attention to make it up to us. Better (warm) but still not up to the expectations ... and price. We won't do it again. read more

Came in here after biking on the riverside trail (or whatever it's called). We were hot and tired and hungry. This pizza is delicious. Lots of meat on the meat pizza and lots of fresh basil. Fantastic thin crust. Really hit the spot and we'd all eat here again. Lots of cold water provided and a clean bathroom. It's location leaves a bit to be desired, but the interior with low lights, music and a/c made a perfect atmosphere after a hot, summery bike ride. read more

Man, thats a damn good pizza. Ended up here on my visit from a recommendation of a local friend . Popped in here with open seats available on a Saturday night. The guys who work here are super chill and helpful. The mission here was to try the pizza, so we got the OG Pepperoni Pizza ($15) and their Truffle special pizza ($25). The pizzas themselves are all personal size, and they let you know this when you order, so it was no surprise when the pizzas showed up in front of us. The Pizzas themselves were thin and perfectly crispy. The pepperoni pizza was cheesy as can be with really good thicker pieces of pepperoni on them. The Truffle Pizza was pretty good, but not that great. They didn't use actual truffles just truffle oil, which to me is really just a perfume. It smelled amazingly truffly, but there was no truffle flavor there, but the pizza itself was solid. The pizzas here are damn good, but lets be real they're overpriced for the personal size in comparison to whats available. Pizza a solid 4 , but pricing 2. read more

Capizzi - Arugula and Prosciutto & Arugula Pizza, Pizza Margherita with roasted peppers and pepperoni - Pizza Near Me - New York, New York

I have eaten here several times at lunchtime with a friend. It is a smallish casual place, decorated eclectically with a 1960s theme. It has waiter service. The main draw is the wood burning brick oven which makes a beautiful, thin crust pizza with a touch of char around the edges, crisp crust, and tongue burning super hot cheese, sauce and toppings. I tend to get a plain Margarita pizza which is delicious. My friend usually adds some toppings and enjoys that, as well. I usually get the house Pinot Noir which is delicious. Occasionally, I get a cannoli which is freshly made and on point. Service is excellent and the price is mid-range for a quiet Manhattan restaurant. If you would like to sit down and have a conversation, I would recommend this place over the typical take out, or counter service pizza parlors found all around the city. read more

Authentic New York pizza at a great price. This little, hole in the wall restaurant, could easily be overlooked; however, if you are in the area, be sure to stop here. My yelper BFF Franny told me about this place a few days ago. (How can you not love Franny, she goes to all the fun places) Good wood fired pizza for $11 in midtown? I'm there! I walk into a really quaint, cozy restaurant. Its not too small, I can see having a small party here and closing the place. So, I sit in the corner and observe the surroundings. Cute items on the wall, wait a second, is that a non working clock? Is that tin poster hung up with scotch tape?! Maybe someone needs to take some of the stuff off the walls, they went a little overboard. I see an old fashioned refrigerator, that thing must cost a fortune to run! It is a nice touch in the middle of the restaurant. I feel like I'm in my Nonnas kitchen. I ordered a Margarita pizza and an Italian lemonade. The pizza was really good, great blend of cheese, sauce and good wood fired crusted dough. This area has some dynamite restaurants, (And bakeries! Little Pie Company & Amy's Bread) Here is another great find. I'm coming back, everything on the menu looks really really tasty read more

I'm an out-of-town visitor and have frequented this restaurant whenever I'm in NYC. Capizzi is cute and quaint. I love their brick oven pizzas and their yummy salads. Ordered: Arugula Salad: ($10.50) My Fave: Arugula with tomatoes, onions, cranberries, green apples, walnuts, blue cheese and the balsamic vinegar dressing. It's a light dressing and a delicious combination. Highly recommend this dish. Fennel Salad: ($9.95) It was my first time eating fennel but I enjoyed it. Another light salad. Not sure if I'd order it again. Pizza: Asparagus Special ($19.99). Roasted Asparagus, cherry tomatoes, truffle oil, pine nuts. Yummy. My friends and I are not meat eaters so this was perfect! Prosciutto and Funghi ($22.95): My Fave: Buffalo Mozzarella, Portobello Mushroom, Prosciutto and Parmigiano Reggiano Cheese. I don't normally eat prosciutto but it added flavor to this pizza. It's cut very thin and in my opinion, that "made" the pizza. Our waiter recommended these two pizzas but there's so much more to choose from. On top of the 10+ types of specialty pizzas, there are combination pizzas and build-your-own ones too. The staff has always been so nice and courteous to us. Thank You for your hard work. So if you're looking for a casual restaurant with delicious brick-oven pizzas, I highly recommend visiting Cappizzi....... read more

Capizzi NY Manhattan Hells Kitchen 9pm Wednesday 21st October 2015 5 Stars On Back to the Future II day, we came to Capizzi. This small restaurant is not in the best location next to grimy area near the Port Authority. However, the place is warm, quaint and filled with smell of delicious Italian food. We drank a couple Peronis ($6.5) while waiting for our pies. I had the Loaded: Provolone, Pepperoni, Sausage, Bell Peppers, Mushrooms, Onions, and Whole Garlic Cloves. The brick oven made the crust crispy with wisps of char. The sauce was sweet, rich, with the right amount of liquidity - not too watery but enough soften the slice. The toppings were plentiful and delicious. The deep roasted garlic flavor against the sweet peppers and spicy pepperoni was a fantastic combo. The service is more Italian laid back style. *they spelled "desserts" on their chalkboard unless they are selling some sand filled pastries. read more

Cute place. Great food and service! The salad was incredible. We will for sure be back.

What Great Pizza! Would definitely go back. The restaurant was small you might wait a few minutes for a table.

On my first trip to NY, I wanted to fully immerse in my tourist-ness and eat NY style pizza. This place fit the bill...albeit, it was quite a bit more expensive for a pizza place lunch. The pizza was yummy and fresh from a wood fire brick oven. The caprese salad was made with amazing fresh mozzarella. Also, their sangria was really good too. I was really thankful for the oven because it kept the place warm. As a native San Diegan, I was not loving the NY winter, so I was happy to be nice and toasty inside. Their service was ok...could be slightly better. As I mentioned before, it was a bit pricy for pizza but not horrible. I would definitely come back. read more

Capizzi - I'm guessing it's decor more than function - Pizza Near Me - New York, New York

4.25 stars. While this is decidedly a sit-down menu and it was rather obvious that I might be in a hurry given that I was lugging around two travel bags, Capizzi still exceeded all my needs on a hectic Sunday afternoon. Capizzi's trade is 12 inch pies from a beautiful brick oven that compares favorably to DC's Seventh Hill. The menu is bountiful with plenty of options for a bevy of tastes. While I certainly wanted to try the artichoke-pesto pizza with approximately half a dozen different types of cheeses as well as a special featuring pancetta and eggs, how could I say no to a special creation involving speck, arugula, provolone, parm, and percorino on mozzarella? I think a few reviewers noted their sauce is excellent, and I'm pretty sure they use San Marzano tomatoes (which is an astute choice when making pizza sauce). Needless to say, for this style of pizza (which isn't your typical NYC slice), I was very impressed. I should add that the service was great, and that they recognized my situation quickly. They allowed me to stick around the restaurant as I ended up having a few minutes to burn before I headed back to DC, and they were quite helpful in the pizza selection process. The location is a bit odd (behind the NY Port Authority) and the outside street isn't my favorite, but the interior is actually quite nice and has an interesting old-school feel to it. The menu is limited to pizza, salads, and wine so anyone looking for a more extended Italian menu should probably go elsewhere. Still, if you can sit down for pizza, don't necessarily need an NYC slice, and find excitement in trying interesting flavor profiles, Capizzi is a strong choice. If I'm ever near Port Authority again, it's a no-brainer that I would come back to visit. read more
