This pro knows his trees LOL...I called them to come out for a tree service quote to take a look at some of our very old and large Pecan trees in the backyard here in North Austin/Allandale. Luckily the Pecans have made it through the drought thus far. Many of them had limbs that were growing over each other, and to be honest, the trees haven't been loved at all in a really long time. The wind storm last month helped me realize that it was time to get the tree trimming/pruning and whole diagnosis done by an arborist asap (we had a few big limbs come pretty close to the house and one fell on the winter vegetable garden). James gave me a fair price, and I really trusted his diagnosis, plus the guy is also a degreed forester, not just an arborist. We talked trees for 20 minutes and he's legit.... He didn't try to sell me anything that I didn't need, and the trees are lookin' good. read more

We have a large Arizona Ash in our backyard that was planted when our home was built in 1967 and is now nearing the end of its lifespan. We asked James to take a look at the tree, and give us his opinion on whether we should have the tree trimmed, or save our money for a future removal. James gave us his informed and honest opinion on the Ash's health, and we ultimately decided to get the tree trimmed and hopefully extend its lifespan by a few years, as the tree shades most of our yard. James has a large, quick, and thorough crew that did a great job on the Ash, and he was on site to manage the project. In addition to the Arizona Ash, we also had James trim a young Monterrey Oak. He showed us why he trimmed the tree the way he did, so that it would grow tall and healthy, with one lead branch and a wide canopy. I was really happy to have a pro like James trim the Oak for future health, rather than tackle the project myself and potentially hurt the tree. James also took a look at a massive Cottonwood in our front yard, and said it looked healthy and didn't need any work. I really appreciated that he didn't try and up sell us on trimming the Cottonwood as well. (Another tree service company--not a certified arborist like James--gave us a quote for trimming both trees.) The price James gave us was very fair, and it's clear he really loves and cares for trees. Many thanks to Capitol Tree Care for helping to keep Austin's urban forest healthy. read more

I called a few arborists late on a Friday afternoon about a very large branch that had fallen on my roof. All the other folks either didn't answer or said they wouldn't even talk to me about it until Monday. James from Capitol Tree Care cleared it within 24 hours at a very reasonable price. I was so happy with his service I asked him to trim/prune the rest of the trees on the property, since it hadn't been done in at least several years. Again, he worked fast and offered quality work at competitive prices. James is courteous and obviously very knowledgeable about trees and plants. You can count on them to provide a worry-free experience for you. I strongly recommend Capitol Tree Care to anyone looking for their services! read more

I called James about a 30-year old Cedar Elm in the front yard that needed some trimming. For the initial visit, he gave a specific time to meet (not a 4-hour window) which was really nice, and he even called 30 minutes ahead of time like I asked him to! The tree looks beautiful! He really knows what he's doing when it comes to trimming trees. He doesn't make the limbs look like lion tails with stripped limbs and leafy ends, which is good because the tree looks much more natural. The only complaint I had about his service were some crushed plants under the tree, but when I called him about this, he was OK with deducting the cost of replacement. Had I been there when they were trimming, I probably would've put out some 5-gallon buckets on top of these plants to protect them. Overall though, the yard was clean when I came home and the limbs were hauled off. read more

James was responsive, knowledgeable and complete with his assessment. Kasi was always very courteous and patient when I called the office. Nate, worked very hard to ensure my expectations were met. I appreciated the full staff on communication throughout the project. Very reasonable price and excellent work. read more

Great job, took 30 minutes to cut down a dead tree & two large dead limbs on another tree. Cleaned up perfectly, nice crew, good price. Will use them in the future. Called regarding a fast dying red oak - James came and gave us an eye-opening education regarding how squirrels managed to kill the tree (we thought it was oat wilt). He informed us the 5 nests in another large red oak were actually squirrel nests, not birds nests like we thought. He also, without our requesting it, looked at the rest of our trees and indicated what to watch out for in the future plus ways to prevent current squirrel invasions. James came out to do the estimate/education & 2 weeks later they cut down the dead tree. I'm happy to report that in that time the metal guard he recommended we install worked and WE HAVE NOT SEEN ONE SQUIRREL SINCE! Thanks Capitol Tree Care! read more

Capitol Tree Care did a fabulous job! The crew was quick and timely, trimmed the trees perfectly and cleaned up every single branch. James, the owner, gave great advice as to how to save my sick Pecan trees. He also did the aerating and grass clearing himself. I will definitely continue to use Capitol Tree Care for all my tree needs! read more

Great service. They came to remove a tree and did a clean and fast job. Very friendly crew. Definitely recommend them.

We had a very large oak tree in my front yard that was causing considerable damage to my driveway so I began researching Austin area arborists to consult with me on solutions to the problem. I received several recommendations for Capitol Tree Care. Right from the start, James Burtchell (owner and certified arborist) was extremely knowledgeable and helpful in reviewing the situation carefully and expertly to determine whether the tree could be saved without potentially exposing the foundation of my house to serious damage. With his input I felt comfortable in the decision to have the tree removed. The office manager was attentive in scheduling the work to be done and answering questions and the tree removal crew worked efficiently in removing the tree and cleaning up completely afterward. I'd definitely recommend James to friends and neighbors for any tree care work. read more

This is the best tree service ever. James made a detailed proposal and his guys totally fulfilled my expectations. They were efficient, had the right tools, knew what they were doing and cleaned up when the job was finished. I will use them again! read more

I recently bought a house with 8 full-grown trees that had not been pruned in years. James came out and thoroughly discussed them with me- showed me what needed to be done and why, what should be done now and what I should be considering 3-5 years down the line, etc. He was also great about working with me on a payment plan. His crew showed up on time, did everything we had discussed, and cleaned up after themselves really well. I will definitely use them again. read more

James, owner of Capitol Tree Care and certified arborist, did a thorough walk of my property giving suggestions to lifting and trimming limbs from all trees on my property. He answered my questions and addressed any concerns I had on the various kinds of trees. An estimate was delivered the next day and scheduled at my convenience. The team arrived promptly, trimmed, and lifted canopy of trees to my satisfaction. The trees are well balanced and give great street appeal to my property.Cleanup and hauling of tree branches was included with the job . The cost was reasonable, and the team professional in their service. I highly recommend this company for your landscaping needs! read more

James is personable, knowledgeable, and honest. The work was delayed mid-way through due to our heavy rains last week just before Memorial Day, and he and crew made every effort to get the yard into a reasonable shape, then worked part of that day as well. The crew was terrific and did a lot of very high up work in an elm and some oaks, including installing a cable to provide stability to the elm's two main branches. Strongly recommend him. read more

I highly recommend Capitol Tree Care & arborist James Burtchell. When I waited until we were on the very edge of oak wilt season to have a large live oak in my yard tended to, James came out within a few days of my call and gave me a proposal on the spot. I was very pleased with his solution to our tree's problem and his prices were extremely reasonable. I had obtained a few other proposals from local companies which included extravagant additions to the main job and outrageous price tags. I was able to schedule the work within two weeks of my initial call. James and his crew were very professional and courteous. In addition to the fantastic job they did with my tree, they cleaned my roof of a bunch of old debris while they were working. I will definitely use Capitol Tree Care in the future. read more

Speedy Service in a Crunch. We found out after dark on Thursday that construction work would begin Monday morning (surprise!) near a tree we definitely wanted to protect before construction began. James had already come out and submitted a proposal my husband and I were considering when we thought we had all the time in the world. I texted and emailed James late Thursday night to see if there was any possible way they could do the work any time in the 3 days before construction began. Probably not because they were already booked but he would check. Yes! By Friday morning James and Nate dropped off the plywood and already had the mulch scheduled for delivery on Saturday morning - the mulch people were working us into their schedule too. The whole area was protected by Saturday afternoon. We couldn't be happier. Thank you so much for juggling all these moving parts and getting the job done. read more

We moved into our house 2 years ago and I emailed 3 companies to ask for a consult just to see how healthy our trees were. Capitol Tree Care replied to our request very quickly and we were able to schedule a visit at our convenience. James arrived on time and was friendly, professional and knowledgeable; answered all our questions and gave us some great info on where we could improve the health of our tress and what we could leave alone. Zero pressure for additional work- we then asked for a quote which was then emailed to us before he left the driveway. Will definitely stay with this company for future work and would highly recommend to others. read more

Needed a true arborist for my land's biggest asset...the live oak. James came out and worked a long time to ensure that the integrity of the tree was kept as much as possible. VERY reasonable compared to men with a saw showing up at the door! He also diagnosed a condition (not serious) caused by insects in my lovely live oak. a business to be trusted. read more

These guys are great! They've done a few jobs for me now, including one where James (the owner and arborist) came out by himself for an emergency and climbed the tree to cut a huge branch from a split tree that was falling into the street. It also helps (and I think is important) that James is an actual arborist. He knows trees and cares about trees. Customer service is great, prices are great! Also, Kaci, the office manager, is very polite and courteous. read more

We were very happy with the work Capitol Tree Care did for us. James Burtchell was very nice to work with and seemed very knowledgeable. His crew completed all of the work that we had discussed plus some and left the yard looking nice. We would highly recommend them. read more

We were concerned about the health of our Live Oak and called Capital Tree Care for advice. James came out on time and even called 30 minutes ahead which I appreciated. It was obvious from the start that James is highly knowledgable and is also very professional. He was patient with my numerous and repeated questions and took the time to make sure I understood the advice he was giving without talking down to me. I would not hesitate to contact him again and in fact won't be looking for any other arborist regarding care and advice for my trees. read more

I hired them to take out a dying ash tree and grind the stump. The quality of the removal work was fine, except that it took about six weeks and numerous phone calls to get from taking down most of the tree (left about three feet of trunk sticking up) to finishing with the stump grinding. I did get the full bill promptly. read more

I can't recommend James highly enough. He came out to our house to look at trees that needed pruning, including several belonging to our neighbor that were touching our roof. Hostile neighbor. It took us a year and a hearing with our HOA for the neighbor to agree that we could prune the trees. (Yes, we know we're allowed to prune but when James came out to prune in 2014, the neighbor threatened litigation and was most unpleasant, so James decided it wasn't a job he wanted to do). When James came out to do the work in 2015, the neighbor came out and was unpleasantly aggressive. Tried to video James and be intimidating. James was courteous, professional and patient and used a laser pointer to show the neighbor the various cuts that would be made to keep the trees healthy, but get them 5' from our roof to keep the squirrels off. We're happy with the work James did on our 4 trees and our neighbor agreed to the pruning that was being done to his trees. It all worked out well, everything looks great, clean-up was thorough, and we were very happy with the price. I would definitely call Capitol Tree Care again. read more

I have nothing but praise for the owner James and his company Capitol Tree Care. Their quote for taking down an old dying oak tree was nearly half the price of a competive company and the tree was removed without any damage to the lawn. I was so impressed I hired them back to remove the stump and plant a new tree in its place. James personally worked for three days removing the stump with a hydraulic stump grinder, then a backhoe, then smaller stump grinder. The entire time James kept me informed on the progress by phone, text and email. Finally James found and purchased a 200 gallon Monterrey oak from a nursery and arranged to have it installed. This is a very large tree and, just like with the oak tree removal, the installation was done with absolutely no damage to the existing lawn. James has a great attitude and tremendous work ethic. I recommend him and his company to anyone without any hesitation. read more
