Drove from Winthrop because we love a good old school diner. Nothing beats good food - the Capitol Diner had a great breakfast that was exactly what we were looking for. The corned beef hash omelette was delicious and I am still full hours later! Great service in downtown Lynn and street parking available. You can tell this is a place the locals go to and the servers all were really friendly. Bar seating and tables for 2 along the wall.

I stayed in Lynn, MA, while I was visiting a friend in Boston and wanted to stop and grab some food before I headed back to Philadelphia. I often saw this spot as I walked back to my Airbnb, and thus, I knew I wanted to try it. I stopped in around 8-9 am, and this small but comfortable diner was present with a cook, a waitress, and two older gentlemen- who seemed to be regulars, as the waitress often referred to them by name, who were getting breakfast and catching up on some small talk. The two gentlemen were unintentionally charming as the waitress and I got a good laugh out of their conversation with one another. This is what this diner exemplifies; A community diner that has great service and food for people who live in Lynn and those who do not, like me. It was such an experience, witnessing the chef cook everything on the flat-top stove and put together a fresh meal in a matter of minutes. I ordered the corn beef hash, two fried-hard eggs, and buttermilk pancakes. It all was fresh, hot, well-prepared, and tasty. The eggs were fried to perfection, the pancakes were fluffy and buttered up well, and the corn beef hash was flavorful and did not need much salt or pepper. All in all, this community diner was a wonderful and honestly CALMING experience. No phone, not too much noise... just good food, good vibes, good services, and a decent view into Lynn.

If you're in the area definitely recommend stopping by and dining here. The food was delicious and overall a good value. Service was friendly and attentive. The menu has plenty of options, however they do lack a selection of coffee beverages. They have basic diner coffee which was good. Would love to see them expand and include espresso based drinks. All in all a great value and would definitely return.

Theirs a young boy that works here with his dad , it's amazing to see a man teaching his son and the son is working the grill . Very good food , good service overall a great experience! Wonderful place to eat , only thing I didn't like was its cash only . Luckily the waitress was very nice and she said I can pay on Venmo , so I downloaded Venmo and paid but besides that it was an amazing experience!! Also good prices

Very cute diner. You can see all the history here! Food is amazing! 1 waitress running her butt off, huge tip for her!

This place has been around forever, opened umpteen years ago... Named in 1938... Hmmm I think it has the original counters and stools...Very cool... The diner is an actual Brill dining car purchase in 1928.. There are a few tables outside to enjoy during the warm weather. This is a fun place to eat. Eating here is like stepping back in time. Breakfast is served all day. On this visit i enjoyed the Mushroom Swiss Burger. It cam to the counter cooked a perfect medium rare open faced with melted Swiss and a pile of Sauteed mushrooms and a bag of chips for $6.95 I also enjoyed a cup of fresh brewed iced coffee, they serve the milk on the side. The entire staff was well mannered, and my waitress was very attentive and personable. For such an old establishment, I was surprised at how clean everything was. I give the Capitol Diner a Solid 4 Stars

Stellar... this is the Hobo skillet... awesone.

So... first breakfast in Boston... BEST BREAKFAST EVER. EXCLAMATION POINT. STOP. Super cool motif. Insanely friendly team. Super menu... oh and then there's the actual food... GF had the Garden Scrambler... she loved it. I had the Hobo Skillet... SICK!!! BEST BREAKFAST EVER!!! Gave 5 stars because 10 is not an option. Love this joint and WILL be a regular.

"The Capitol DIner is in downtown Lynn, but it's tucked away on Union Street, just off Washington Street, and it's a beautiful example of a dying breed : a real diner. The Capitol was built by the Springfield factory of the J. G. Brill Company of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania is generally considered to be the only real Brill diner still in operation. It has the typical Brill monitor roof, and entrances at either end, a style borrowed from streetcars and trains. The Capitol sits perpendicular to the sidewalk on a small lot, which has been nicely enhanced with the fenced-in garden. Outside the far entrance, there's a small deck for outdoor dining, a very unusual feature, and one that has been added without changing the essential character of this fine old diner. The Capitol Diner was added to the National Register of Historic Places on September 22, 1999" (from my blog posting about this wonderful diner)

My husband goes there all the time and likes the way William makes his hash from scratch and prepares it well done, just for him.

Bring CASH, and it is expensive for a diner. Really nice staff, but waaaay too many waitresses. I guess we hit it at a lull.

Full disclosure - My girlfriend went out for brunch with her brothers - She grabbed takeout for…read moredinner of which I was a luck recipient. First off, she said she loved the place other than it's one of those places that have the tables in pretty tight together - but food and service wise -she said everything went excellent. She had the Chicken and Waffles, her older brother had a Belgian Waffle and her younger brother had some sort of open faced sandwich with excellent home fries. For my dinner, which we reheated in the air frier, was Excellent. They had made a killer burger with some excellent shoe-string fries that reheated very well. The burger (from the dinner menu) was excellent and I didn't even know it had Swiss on it at the time, because it tasted so damn good. The real prize were those wings. I would drive to Lynn from Merrimack Valley for these wings. Nice blend of sweet and hot. Great experience without having to make the trip personally!!!

We booked this place because it was on a list of restaurants that was good for celiacs and we have…read morea celiac in our party. She even called ahead to make sure they cook gluten and non gluten separately. We show up and the server had a hard time taking our orders from the start. The server seemed new and maybe had some language barriers, as she didn't seem to be understanding any of us. My husband ordered an old fashion, she didn't seem to understand and he had to repeat himself multiple times slowly. She finally got it after a few times. I asked for a drink off the mocktail menu, but I get a drink loaded with vodka and it is not the drink I ordered. I ask the server about it, she said it was the drink she wrote down. The color wasn't even the same color of the correct drink. I told her I ordered a mocktail, she said they have 2 drinks with the same name. and I got the one with alcohol. There was only one drink with that name on the menu and it is under the zero proof section. It was not even the right flavor of the drink, with or without alcohol. We order oysters off the happy hour menu. She brings double the amount we ordered. And said it wasn't on the happy hour menu. We show her the happy hour menu and it is right there. Lastly, she was very confused about the celiac requirement. My friend has very serious issues with it and every restaurant we eat at with her has to have separate prep kitchens. She didn't seem to get that my friend could not have pita with the hummus. Maybe she didn't know what gluten-free or celiac was? But after some explanation and asking for veggies instead of pita, she offered cucumber. Then my friend ordered the chicken and asked for the celiac prep, the server just kind of dismissed it. When it came, the chicken had a crunchy crust on it, and we were just not sure if the server understood again, so my friend just didn't eat it out of caution. We were bummed as it seemed like a good place but the service just kind of ruined the meal. If this lady was new, we would recommend she shadow someone for a while so she can learn.
