I had an existing table that I needed disassembled for a basement finish project and then reassembled with bumper rail restoration and new felt. Anthony was very communicative through the entire process and completed the work as promised. He even assisted me in shipping out an old cue I had to McDermott to fit with a new shaft. This is definitely the place to get all kinds of supplies for pool tables and dart boards. It was a really interesting store that you can get lost with nostalgic influences. I brought my father in law with me who loves antique and signage. I realized that capital sells everything - the staff was well informed and engaging. First let me start by saying that there are very few billiards stores in RI, so it took me about 45 minutes to get here. I arrive at Capitol Billiards just before 4:40, the second I walk in the door, the man behind the counter rudely tells me that they're closed (the sign on the door and the hours on their phone recording all specify they close at 5). I was permitted to look around the store for a few minutes, which was sooo nice especially considering it was still during their regular business hours. After spending about 5-10 minutes looking around, with absolutely no offer of assistance for anything, I decide that all of their prices are unreasonably high and walk out. For example, they charge $50 for the same house cue that you can buy from many online sites for less than $25. I usually try to support local shops and am willing to pay slightly higher prices, and usually local shops make up for the higher prices with good customer service. Apparently, this shop is unaware of that concept. I would never spend my money here, and would absolutely caution everyone against even wasting their time going here. I grew up and worked in the Centredale area of North Providence until my 20's, but had not been to either Capitol Billiards (or its attached sister location Rhode Island Billiards Bar & Bistro) in a very long time...since I had moved all the way to Smithfield 20 years ago. I went back for the first time in December (2017) right before Christmas because I wanted to get back into playing pool. I bought several cues and cases for friends and family. Nothing crazy, just some middle of the road sticks. That's when I got to meet Tony (the owner) who spent some time with me and steered me in the direction for what I needed. He didn't try to oversell me on anything, and actually helped me grab a few sticks a little cheaper than what I was originally looking at. I am a very big proponent of supporting small business, provided the owners get the fact that their customers are there, not because they have to be, but because they want to be. Tony definitely got that, and I am glad he did because I spent the next two months playing pool a few times a week in the billiards bar next door - which by the way, is really nice inside, well lit, nice bar areas, plenty of tables and chairs near the tables, excellent décor, good food, lots of beer to choose from and very clean... and it was really inexpensive to play. Also the staff was also always very nice. Although, this review is about the Capitol Billiards, you need to realize that both places are connected (not just physically). Tony is the owner/operator so he is almost always there. I have been there no less than 15-20 times over the past two months; Tony was there every time but once. He is a busy man, I get that. As an owner he is responsible for whether or not his business will succeed or fail, and for keeping a pool hall and bar relevant for the next generation... so he is always doing something. I don't expect the owner of a billiards store to be waiting behind the counter waiting for someone to come in and buy a table or a pool cue. But every time I went in, if Tony wasn't in the store, the girls behind the bar would let him know. Maybe he was on a call or helping another customer, but a few minutes later he would be in to help me. This is a longer review, but I'll spend as much time with it as he spent with me in recent months. After a few weeks of playing pool again, I realized that it was time to pull the trigger and to start thinking about buying my own table. This is where things started to really matter. Buying a pool table is a lifetime investment, like getting a tortoise. I am super particular and over-think pretty much every decision. I know I didn't want an expensive new table because I have three children and I wanted something pre-dinged to lessen my stress level, but I also didn't want a lower end new table because I still wanted something nice. Tony and I spent a while talking about different tables he had on the floor, and then he showed me a bunch of other tables downstairs (which I didn't know existed). He showed me 2 nice used tables that were almost exactly what I was looking for and very affordable. The funny thing is that I did not end up buying a table from Tony, but he did help me in my one month semi-obsessive search for an ultimate vintage table that matched what I wanted in my imagination. I met with him several times and showed him all the great deals I found on craigslist or facebook, luckily he was able to point out some things that would have cost me a lot of money had I been impatient and jumped on what I thought was a wicked awesome deal. Eventually, I found exactly what I wanted. Tony and I discussed it, talked about the pros and cons, and finally we arranged for him to do the recovery and setup. The guys who came to do the setup at my house were very nice and did a great job. They also spent some time with me talking about how to clean up the wood on the table properly and how to take care of the felt. I could not be any happier with the way things unfolded. Everyone in my house is having a great time on the table. I don't remember the last time I was able to get my three kids (16 boy, 13 girl, 10 boy) to do anything together without fighting. After a week my kids are already starting to notice the differences between the cheap house cue that the came with the table and my nice cue. We will be taking a trip there again this week to upgrade. I've had nothing but good experiences with the staff at Capitol Billiards (and RI Billiards Bar & Bistro) and would highly recommend them to anyone. read more

I live forty-five minutes away from the store, so I called Anthony and we spoke for nearly 30 minutes on my goals, budget, a guidance on selection of table. He told me that I would have a very good experience, receive a fair price and he would give me the best service in the New England region. He committed to having his own employees set up the table, and when it was done, I would be very happy. All of this came true. At his store, Anthony and I had collaborative discussions on table selection, sizing, felt, felt color, sites, installation, room size, pricing and many other considerations. Having a professional, not a pool and sauna guy (like other pool table stores), gave me the confidence and guidance on selecting the right table for my family and me. Lastly, the is a family owned and 365 day-per-year pool table store. The store is not going to wow you with the largest selection of tables, like the other seasonal stores. That is ok with me. The selection at the store, coupled with so many easy-to-use online tools and guidance from Anthony provided me with all I need to make the right choice. In fact, I ordered a table not in Anthony's showroom. Anthony ordered it from Olhausen and they built it for us in about 6 weeks. Hope your experience was as positive as mine. read more

Mr. Costanzo is one of the nicest and most sincere people you will ever meet. Despite some of the reviews below I can assure you that Capitol billiards is a very professional organization. I have had them recover and recondition numerous family owned tables over the past 30+ years. Back in the 1980's we acquired an 8' used table for my grandparent's retirement home. Capitol Billiards donated a recovering and leveling of that table in a gracious example of the kind of people they are. Do not hesitate to do business with them. I have had contact with this store twice. Once going to the store itself and another on the phone. The store itself is cluttered, dirty and unappealing. When I went to the store I stood there for quite some time before I had to poke my head inside the side w/the bar to ask for help. When I called on the phone to ask how much it would be to move a pool table the gentleman, named Anthony, was extremely rude and displayed poor customer service. He had me on the phone and was talking and helping other people while I was looking for some information he needed. He should have put me on hold, helped his customer and return to my phone call. He was a rude and ignorant business owner. I would spend $100 or more than what he quoted me to move a table, just so I wouldn't have to deal w/such a business. I would never recommend anyone to do business with this store!!! read more

This place is awful. I drove 40 minutes on a Saturday to check out the pool table selection on a Saturday (which is the day when typical people buy things.) I arrived during their business hours only to find that the store was left in the hands of a teenager who knew absolutely nothing about the pool tables and who told me she was not authorized to show me the room of pool tables for sale downstairs. Why bother opening a store for regular business if the person left in charge can not do anything? She told me to come back on Monday when the manager would be there. Why bother. This place's customer service is awful. Guess I will have to use my thosands of dollars elsewhere. read more

Recently had to move a table from an apartment to my new home. I Called these guys for a quote and the next day was able to move the table. The owner even recommended a new cloth since my table had an old tattered green and i was able to replace it with a lovely wine red. The two young men were able to take the table apart and have it out of the apartment in less than an hour. Very customer friendly and professional, and answered any questions i had about the process. The table was put together better than it was before the move! The money was well spent on a job that was done quick, neat, and professional. Get everything in writing and read it before doing anything with this Capital Billiards. What they say and what they do were two very different things in my experience. I have no idea whether the food is any good, but if the kitchen is run like their retail and service department is run, I wouldn't eat the food. read more
