Sonia has made my mom's life so much easier knowing that there is someone tending to her. Sonia was there with my grandmother when she was in the hospital and even told my grandmother she needed to get strong so she could dance again. And then Sonia was dancing in the hospital room and my grandmother - who can be surly for sure - was dancing in her hospital bed. Sonia also got my grandmother all dolled up for Christmas Eve dinner and did her hair and makeup. It has meant so much to us to have someone love on her the way that we do.. We are a big family and there can be a lot of guilt about not doing it ourselves - but having someone like Sonia there has allowed us all to take different roles and honestly made this "season of life" so much more magical.

I am advocating for myself and other clients who might find themselves in a vulnerable position while being cared for by Capital City Nurses. I feel compelled to share my experience with Capital City Nurses. Out of the 12 plus caregivers who came into my home five to six were fine. The rest were lazy, rude, and discourteous specifically, when it came to talking loudly on their phones. As a client relying on professional care for something as critical as preparing meals and the storage of food was both frustrating and alarming. I noticed some of the caregivers could not read to follow cooking instructions on a frozen microwavable meal. After my care ended, I found a raw unwrapped turkey in my refrigerator on the bottom shelf. My daughter ordered food from Instacart, I later found out I was not getting all the food and drink that she ordered for me. One of the caregivers bought beer and other alcoholic beverages in my house and even gave one to me while on my medications. The caregiver could not read the label. Thank God, I noticed it was alcohol. Communication with some of the caregivers could be difficult at times. My shower head was broken. Even though I was able to start walking, at times I was blocked from leaving my room. I overheard two of the caregivers laughing and joking about it. I was ROBBED!!!! I am missing kitchen items, stereo equipment and a landscaping tool. I've called and sent emails to speak to a manager repeatedly - the gatekeeping game is very strong. I visited the office in Sterling, Virginia. The person I spoke with seemed uninterested in assisting me. She acted as though my questions and concerns were an inconvenience. As a former client relying on professional guidance for something as critical as this, the dismissive attitude is both frustrating and alarming. This behavior not only reflects poorly on Capital City Nurses but also damages their reputation as a trusted provider of healthcare services. Clients deserve to be treated with respect--not made to feel like a burden. Proper training, accountability, and perhaps even re-evaluation of their hiring practices are needed to ensure that no other client must endure such subpar service.

When Musa Bangura came into our lives my father had just been discharged from a rehabilitation…read morefacility and needed full time care for the first time in his life. He was 92 and resentful about his new frailty and the entire idea of a live-in caregiver. He cherished his freedom, living alone in the house my sister and I grew up in. I knew it had to be done, but I had not-great expectations about how they were going to get along, given how prickly my father was at the time. I've had excellent help from Capital City Nurses for both of my elderly in-laws, so I figured there was hope. Musa cared for my father for more than a year. He treated my father the way I would imagine he'd treat his own father - with love and respect and tenderness and humor. They formed a bond that I still don't fully understand. Musa loved my father, and I know for a fact that my father loved him. Over a year of steady decline, the one constant in our lives - the reason my sister and I could get up and go to work everyday - was the knowledge that our father was in excellent hands. My father needed hospice care for the last week of his life. It was clear that this was the end, and my sister and I were upset. Nobody is ready to lose their beloved father, not even children in their fifties. Again, Musa did everything he could not just for my dad but for us. He helped us understand what was happening. Most important for us, he made sure we had ample notice so we could be there with my father when he died. For the rest of my life I will be grateful for that. We were so upset, but Musa (who was also upset) tended to my father's body right up to the end and beyond, making sure that he was perfectly clean and cared for. As far as I can tell, Musa never stopped looking at my dad as a human being (not just a job) and acted accordingly. Frankly, it's difficult for me to believe that it's possible to hire someone like Musa at any price. But apparently it's true. Now that my father is gone, I assume Musa will be looking for a new client after some much-needed time off. Please let this letter serve as an introduction and recommendation. I think Musa himself would tell you that I am not always the easiest person to understand or get along with. I don't think I've really grasped that my dad is no longer with us after 93 years; he was a fighter. But he had a good death, and a good life, all the way through, thanks to Musa. Anyone who hires him as a caregiver will be very lucky indeed.
