I have entrusted Capital City Nurses with both my grandparents. They have sent amazing caregivers - and it has been a true help. Sonia has made my mom's life so much easier knowing that there is someone tending to her. Sonia was there with my grandmother when she was in the hospital and even told my grandmother she needed to get strong so she could dance again. And then Sonia was dancing in the hospital room and my grandmother - who can be surly for sure - was dancing in her hospital bed. Sonia also got my grandmother all dolled up for Christmas Eve dinner and did her hair and makeup. It has meant so much to us to have someone love on her the way that we do.. We are a big family and there can be a lot of guilt about not doing it ourselves - but having someone like Sonia there has allowed us all to take different roles and honestly made this "season of life" so much more magical. read more

Do not use this agency. First, I have never left a negative review about a negative experience with a business. I am advocating for myself and other clients who might find themselves in a vulnerable position while being cared for by Capital City Nurses. I feel compelled to share my experience with Capital City Nurses. Out of the 12 plus caregivers who came into my home five to six were fine. The rest were lazy, rude, and discourteous specifically, when it came to talking loudly on their phones. As a client relying on professional care for something as critical as preparing meals and the storage of food was both frustrating and alarming. I noticed some of the caregivers could not read to follow cooking instructions on a frozen microwavable meal. After my care ended, I found a raw unwrapped turkey in my refrigerator on the bottom shelf. My daughter ordered food from Instacart, I later found out I was not getting all the food and drink that she ordered for me. One of the caregivers bought beer and other alcoholic beverages in my house and even gave one to me while on my medications. The caregiver could not read the label. Thank God, I noticed it was alcohol. Communication with some of the caregivers could be difficult at times. My shower head was broken. Even though I was able to start walking, at times I was blocked from leaving my room. I overheard two of the caregivers laughing and joking about it. I was ROBBED!!!! I am missing kitchen items, stereo equipment and a landscaping tool. I've called and sent emails to speak to a manager repeatedly - the gatekeeping game is very strong. I visited the office in Sterling, Virginia. The person I spoke with seemed uninterested in assisting me. She acted as though my questions and concerns were an inconvenience. As a former client relying on professional guidance for something as critical as this, the dismissive attitude is both frustrating and alarming. This behavior not only reflects poorly on Capital City Nurses but also damages their reputation as a trusted provider of healthcare services. Clients deserve to be treated with respect--not made to feel like a burden. Proper training, accountability, and perhaps even re-evaluation of their hiring practices are needed to ensure that no other client must endure such subpar service. read more

The nurses were great when they showed up. The computer system they had broke down and invoices had to be mailed out there were discrepancies and when you are a care giver wondering when you will receive a bill and if the bill is correct when your nurse does not show is not what you should be dealing with. There were no assessments I had to fight for care notes. When my mother was brought home for hospice I told the company to not send anyone to the home until I tell them the company sent the nurse to my house anyway. There were so many issues with this company. read more

I broke my knee cap and was unable to bath, walked around, and do household tasks around my apartment. A friend/senior care manager recommended this agency to me. I have had compassionate home health aides that anticipated my needs and watched out for my safety. They were a Godsend to me and my daily living. The whole experience with them was great. Shaun Toomey took such good care of us. He did more for my dad in 5 minutes by arranging the care he needed than HOLY CROSS HOME CARE AND HOSPICE did in the seven days they were in our home. The caregivers were gentle and kind. When my dad had a stroke before Thanksgiving (2020) and was hospitalized, the doctor said he did not have long to live, and we wanted to bring him home. Due to the height of Covid and the holiday, it was very difficult to get him released from the hospital. Capital City Nurses(CCN) contacted the hospital and arranged to get him home the day after Thanksgiving. Capital City Nurses also connected us with hospice right away and CCN sent us a lovely caregiver who really didn't have to do much but was polite and lovely and allowed us the peace of mind for our family during a really tough time. There was a lot going on but through Capital City Nurses we were able to get my dad on hospice, brought home from the hospital, and spend that time in the privacy of our home instead of on a FaceTime at the hospital. Our dad passed peacefully that night surrounded by his loved ones. I have (and will continue to) highly recommended CCN to family & friends. read more

CCN came in to care for an elderly neighbor who was bedridden due to a broken ankle. For the most part, the caregivers seemed to do as little as possible and damaged many things around the house. Several thousands of dollars have to be spent to fix plumbing, broken doors, and replace food destroyed by carelessness. Currently my neighbor is dealing with their billing errors where CCN is billing for invoices already paid and threatening to call collections on her. read more

Do not use this agency. They are incredibly hard to communicate with, especially in time-sensitive situations, which is often the case when scheduling caregivers. They don't get back to you to confirm whether caregivers are booked. If you follow their policy and cancel a shift at least 24 hours in advance, they may get back to you or not (and then fail to cancel and charge you for the shift). They will tell you one thing about how they bill overtime and then bill you something else. They will say sorry for all their mistakes, but they never seem to get any better. Some of their caregivers are very good, but many are not, and a handful were no-shows. Capital City Nurses is unprofessional and unaccountable; they don't seem to understand that their constant communication screwups leave vulnerable people in unsafe situations. It's not worth the drama, stress, and risk to use them. read more

Beware of this agency -- they are very disorganized and it's nearly impossible to reach anyone on the phone (other than billing, which is prompt). Although each individual staff member is pleasant to talk to, we found little communication or coordination among them, and little or no supervision of the aide hired to care for our family member. It took days for our calls to be returned, if at all. In a situation where a fragile elderly person needs attentive and consistent care, this is about the last place I would turn to! read more

Do not use this health care agency if you are looking for consistency of care for your loved one. When I signed up with this agency, I was promised that only a few caregivers, at most, would be sent to my home to take care of my husband. However, during the 13 shifts with Capital City Nurses, we were sent 12 different providers! We did talk several times to our Care Coordinator about our specific needs and were assured that these could be met, but they were not. Parking also turned out to be a problem. We live in the heart of DC, between 2 Metro stops and on a bus line. Parking is available in 2 hour spaces, which meant that caregivers had to leave our apartment and move their cars a few times each shift. I did tell Capital City Nurses about a special parking permit for DC residents who have health care providers coming into their homes, but they did not pursue it. The best. I retained Capital City Nurses a year ago to provide weekly (sometimes 2) visits per week by an exceptional person, Molly. Molly is like another daughter to my mother. She is caring and keeps a watchful eye on Mom as they have fun: good restaurants, shopping, visits to museum. Mother could not be happier and looks forward to Molly's visits because they are fun. My mom is in a high end assisted living complex in Chevy Chase Maryland. Everything is provided there, except for something out of the ordinary -- fun trips. I highly recommend Capital City Nurses. They are like family (in fact better). Always on time, caring..and fun! read more
