Casey House was recommended to us by the kind staff at Shady Grove Adventist Hospital. From the…read moresocial workers to the RNs, the staff and volunteers at Casey House ensured that my mother-in-law's final days were comfortable. The facility is clean and patients are well taken care of. There is 24/7 RN support. There is a lobby area with a dining table and water + coffee + tea + cookies, but there was also a lounge near her room (#6) where we could comfortably sit. It's a small place (only 14 rooms) so it is a far cry from the big and bright lights of the hospital. The rooms all have windows, there is a window seat, and a chair that turns into a twin bed, and they brought in extra chairs for us. The last few days of her life were exactly as she wished and they not only cared for her, but for our entire family that was there (from ages 5 on up). There's also a little library with books etc that we didn't get to check out but they let us know about it in case we needed a distraction for our little guy. They were also very reassuring and checked in on us, in a loving (not annoying) way. The building is U-shaped and there's also a courtyard if you need some outdoor time. I did a tour the evening she made her decision, and they coordinated everything with the hospital the next day, and she was checked in by late afternoon. They managed her pain beautifully. They also were able to call in a priest from St. Francis (not affiliated but they can come) down the street for last rites. And when the time came, they coordinated everything with the funeral home. This is a tough decision for any family but thanks to them, we didn't focus on anything but heaping love on our mom in her final days. We cannot have hoped for a better experience in our saddest days. Thank you, Casey House Staff. We are beyond grateful.

I stayed because I liked one of the doctors, but after she left, I remained longer than I should have. Over the years, this fee increased steadily. At first, one of the justifications for the fee was "hazardous removal service," but that explanation later disappeared from their list of reasons. Even when my children were too young for school forms, they still wanted to charge me. If I were to attend today, that same fee would cost me $295. Beyond the excessive fees, I never felt that any doctor truly cared about my children. It often seemed like they were treated as just another number. To be fair, I left this practice over seven years ago, so perhaps things have changed. But based on my experience, I'm glad I decided to move on.

It was pretty resident-centered when I moved in but the culture has changed to be much more staff-centered. They will make changes for the convenience of staff almost instantly even if they are a great inconvenience to residents, e.g., requiring residents to submit meal orders by 8 AM the day before the meal. They have been moving work normally done by staff to residents. For example, they switched trash/recycling contractors to one which will recycle much less. Residents are now collecting much of the recyclables and transporting itself to the Transfer Station. On the positive side, apartment layouts are superior to any other community I visited. It is a very friendly community.

Today I get a call at the end of the day 4:47 pm, that my PT and OT can't continue bc they just became aware from today's provider who sent in the information that they now have to verify benefits and this can't be done until Monday...
