We checked Home Depot & Lowes for an exterior door. Got estimates from both places which came in around the same. We weren't thrilled with the options without paying even more. An exterior door with two side lights, fiberglass with limited options was about $5,000 Our carpenter suggested that we swing by Cape Cod lumber. We talked with Eric. He knew what he was talking about. He has decades of experience and asked us what our "best case" door was. We gave him the particulars, he walked us through all of the options, until we had exactly what we wanted. Best part, it came in $1,100 less than HD & L. I thought it was going to be a higher price than the others. Highly recommend CCL & Eric, don't expect to pay more than the big stores. I recently bought my third kitchen from Cape Cod Lumber. Even though there was a small problem but was resolved quickly and better than I expected. The manager Stephen was great to work with. He took the time to hear my concern and was able to remedy the issue. He sent out an installer Charlie with his son and they do magnificent work. Jeffrey Burns was extremely helpful when I came in to color match a kitchen table that I was having made to cabinets that I ordered through CCLS. I went in when the kitchen showroom was closed and he offered to open the doors, find my order and compare my samples to my actual cabinet door. This wasn't an easy task as the cabinets were packaged up in a pallet ready for delivery. Everyone from the front desk staff, cabinet designer Sonali, and the management have been extremely helpful and patient. Tim Voss and Donna Laflower are an unbeatable team! If you need assistance or repairs to Andersen windows, don't hesitate to call them. We had 10 new Andersen windows installed recently. A couple of the windows were not opening easily, and the window grates were very difficult to install. Tim took care of all of those issues. Most were factory flaws. Tim even allowed me to videotape him demonstrating how to operate all the features of our new windows, like how to tilt them in and such. When the builders installed our windows, one window suffered a nail puncture in it's vinyl sill. Tim took care of that as well. We will be redoing our deck so we went in to look around and get ideas. One of the workers there was super helpful and also made a great recommendation that made my husband and I go "humm"....good idea. They have areas where they sit you down and go over prices, ideas, etc. It was very comfortable and enjoyable the only thing I wish they offered was coffee. Maybe it's me but whenever I'm in a meeting I feel like I would be more relaxed enjoying a cup of coffee. Same feeling washes over me when Im at a bank talking to them about investing or whatever. This review is for the SERVICE at Cape Cod Lumber, Abington, MA. I wrote this letter to the Service Manager there: Hello Mr. MacDonald, It is rare, if ever, that I take the time to write a note of recognition like this. But, before I go off for the weekend, I had to write to you about a service rep that came to my home yesterday. His name was Tim Voss. First, he was right on time and greeted me with the biggest smile. He introduced himself, was personable and helpful. He explained exactly what he was here to do and did his job quickly and quietly. During our conversation, he realized that I did not know that the windows opened to clean them. So, he stopped what he was doing and gave me a 10 minute tutorial on how to open and clean the windows. This was so nice of him - as I am sure he was very busy and had other service calls and customers waiting for him. Next, he noticed while he was coming and going in and out of the front door, that the door did not close properly. Since he thought it was an Anderson Door, he proceeded to check that, to see if it was a simple issue that could be corrected easily. He made a quick adjustment, and like magic - it started closing properly. This front door had been broken for at least 3 months and was very annoying. Tim took it upon himself to go above and beyond to be helpful. He said there was no guarantee he could help, but that he would try - and that is what matters... that he noticed and tried to be helpful beyond the scope of his regular job. How nice is that?? How do you find employees like this? He is gold - and you should keep him, reward him, and recognize him for a job well done. We will continue to go to Cape Cod Lumber for all our household needs. I am not sure about the quality of wood that they distribute, but their kitchen cabinets sales people are the WORST. Since the showroom was by appointment we made an appointment showed up on time, the front desk person made us wait for more than 20 minutes standing by the entrance and not letting us to look at the show room. Then when the sales person Toni(an old lady) finally came, she didn't even bother to show us around in details nor ask about the style. She then kept on making us repeat ourselves when we were talking as if we didn't speak English. (FYI, we are are couple of different race and Americans!!). Then when we showed the layout and kitchen appliances we have ordered she quotes "Is it 12 yet? I think it is. Well, it was nice meeting you- I will keep in touch" We won't be going back. read more

As a GC in Boston I have found the CCL kitchen design department less than reactive to my clients and me in the situation of measuring and door swing clearances and subsequent errors on their account. ( They already paid for one large error which involved cabinet depth and required carefully removal and reinstallations with ' make due' trim.) Luckily I have very talented finish carpenters. All I keep hearing is that they are employee owners and that they would never do that. I'm not sure what that is except , pay for the mistakes that they caused. Across the board CCL's refusal to engage in search for a solution and compromise leads me to Yelp! Don't use them. As you can see by other reviews all one stars are the kitchen cabinet department. I purchased kitchen cabinets from CCL last year. The bottom of the cabinets were all "rough cut". Basically defective. The company assured me that they would sent out subcontractor to repair these defects. It was also relayed to me that this has happened to many customers who purchased the same brand. Great place for ideas but that's it. Each time we visit we're quoted a price that is significantly higher than anywhere else. In some cases it's worth paying more to get quality. But lumber is lumber and an Anderson window is an Anderson window. Why is it so much more there? I'm surprised they're still in business. I once called to see if they had a certain type of lumber before they closed on a Saturday. Salesman said "Yes, we have it." so I shot down and had 10 minutes to close. got all sorts of attitude once I entered the warehouse. "No we don't have that." and "Gut your slip?" and muttered behind me "There's always one!" You might expect that from the lumber humps but not the guy checking slips on the way out. Aren't you supposed to set an example? Wait, I guess he does. So, not only are you paying top dollar, you have to put up with that. I'll drive a bit further. read more

WORST EXPERIENCE IN BUYING EXTERIOR DOORS. EVER. An overall aggravating, time consuming, error-riddled, excruciatingly terrible experience with Cape Cod Lumber. We went in three times looking for four exterior doors. The first time we were just looking; the second time we decided on the Therma-Tru doors and sat with a salesman to write up an estimate; the third time we sat down with a different salesperson (Trevor) and ordered the doors. We had planned to paint the doors ourselves but Trevor was adamant that doing so was not a good idea - no way if we painted them would they look as nice as they would if they were painted at the factory, plus the warranty would be ten years instead of one or two (I cannot remember which one). So at a cost of approximately $380 per door we agreed to have them painted at the factory. We ordered two doors that had black exteriors and white interiors and two doors that were white on both sides. In a little over a month they delivered doors painted yellow instead of white. I called to complain and Trevor agreed to look into it. I told him that I did not want this problem to fall by the wayside - I wanted it fixed quickly since there was a contractor involved and there was the factor of getting things moving along so he could install the doors. So a few days go by and I don't hear from Trevor, then another day and another one. After a week I start calling him and (surprise!) he's never at his desk to take my call. So I leave him vmails. A lot of them. I never hear back from him. So after the ninth or tenth day I call him and he's not there so I ask for his manager. Jay gets on the line and is helpful - says he will find out what happened. So the doors get picked up and repainted and we get them back within a month (remember, this was a simple door replacement project and it's already been over two months). The contractor gets to our house in a week and promptly informs me that the swings on two of the doors are incorrect. Unbelievable! So I call Jay and explain the situation and he says that this is our fault because this is what we ordered. Our contractor got on the phone with him and pointed out that the swings were correct on the first estimate we did (during our second visit) but got changed when the final estimate was written up by Trevor. So Jay contacts Therma-Tru for us and tells us that they have agreed to sell us two doors at a reduced cost. But why would we do that? None of these problems were our fault - they were entirely Cape Cod Lumber's fault! So their solution was to have us pay more money to get what we had ordered, then have to deal with two brand new doors that we were not going to use ( the two that had the incorrect swings). I do want to mention that during all the back and forth phone calls between Jay and I, he said that Trevor had indeed called me several times to talk about the issue with the paint. The problem was that the number he was calling was not mine and indeed, when I called it, I discovered it was a disconnected number! I have no idea where he got the number and it turns out that he didn't have the common sense to either look for the correct number or contact me via email (that info was on the invoice as well). So because of Cape Cod Lumber's incompetence, we had to paint the doors ourselves and yes, the ones we painted do not look as nice as the ones that were painted at the factory. So at least they got that part right! Oh, and after we got the front door installed we realized that it did not have a peephole, which we definitely ordered. Just a horrible experience at Cape Cod Lumber. The WORST experience I have ever had from a vendor after three kitchen makeovers, four bathrooms, two decks, new windows, etc. in several houses over the years. Without a doubt, something that could have been prevented if Cape Cod Lumber made any effort to ensure things were done correctly during the sale process. We are doing the kitchen in our home over and are interviewing contractors. I have stipulated to each one that if they do the project, they will have to agree in writing not to purchase anything from Cape Cod Lumber. Not a slab of granite, not a fixture, not a nail - NOTHING! I go to three different Quincy community group meetings in Quincy and during every one they have a contractor-related session where people talk about projects they have going on, what they are doing, what contractors they are using, etc. I make sure that I warn people in very compelling language that Cape Cod Lumber is not your friend and they do very little right and that they should be avoided when doing any sort of project for someone's home. There are lots of places to buy the products that Cape Cod Lumber sells and people should be buying from other companies (ones that will treat you a LOT better than Cape Cod Lumber!). We have a very old house with very small kitchen. However, the designer, Kate Marchisio from Cape Cod Lumber provided several layouts for my family to pick from. They were all great. Kate put a lot of time and thought into her design to offer us ease in cooking, increase storage, task and ambience lighting as well as a neat counter height bar. Kate helped me pick out the tall cream cabinets with beautiful crown molding. It blended so well with our Arts and Craft home. I truly feel our kitchen could be in a Home and Garden Magazine. 16 Months ago Home Depot installed 8 Andersen Maple Woodwright Windows in my home. After the installation, I constantly had problems with the locking mechanisms of my windows. I have lost count of the number of HD managers I dealt with. Around a dozen?? The HD philosophy is that if they cannot fix what they warranty they stop answering you and say it's fixed when it is not fixed. Their warranty is worthless. A few weeks ago my 6'4" nephew who is a body builder came to my home from NJ and could not lock my windows. HD responded with the windows are perfect. At that point I told them to tell that to the attorney general and something magical happened. I got a call from Cape Cod Lumber telling me that an Andersen Certified installer was coming to my house to address the problem. HD does not employ Andersen Certified installers. This may have come from Andersen? Don't know?? Today Tim from Cape Cod Lumber showed up and did something magical. Tim is the EXPERT YOU WANT. He found and fixed the problem which were REAL. Like a puzzle, the windows did not fit together. He adjusted them. He also gave me a tutorial and told me to film him for my benefit to help me remember how these windows should be locked. I am a retired software engineer and understand details but these windows (before Tim came) were extremely difficult to lock b/c they did not fit together correctly. I told Tim it should come with instructions. He said they do come with instructions but HD did not give them to me. NO matter, Tim was needed to actually make it possible for me (a 75 year old woman) to open and lock my windows. Good bye summer bugs and good bye winter cold. If you are reading this review, hire this company to install your windows. The HD installation would have lowered the value of my condo. It was a nightmare but Tim and Cape Cod lumber are the TRUE experts. They are prompt, respectful, kind and bottom LINE KNOW WHAT THEY ARE DOING. On January 28, 2020, Tuesday, my husband and I went to Cape Cod Lumber to look at interior wood doors. We were having a remodeling contractor make a complete redo of a room in our house from ceiling to floor: new ceiling, walls reworked, floor, electrical work. And new furniture. Our experience was miserable. A male employee at Cape Cod Lumber did come over to us and ask if we found what we were looking for but after that he would not answer any of our questions. I asked him if he could give me a price or a price range on a particular door and he said no. He actually said no. I asked if he could give us specs on a particular door so that I could pass it on to our remodeling team. His reply was no. He honest to goodness said no. I then said to him that we would have to bring in one of the workers so they could see what we found, which would be a huge inconvenience. He said nothing. He asked other questions and he said no. We soon left the store. Several days later, when our remodeling workers arrived at our house, we told them what had happened to us. They looked at each other and said that Cape Cod Lumber really doesn't like the public coming in. They are really for contractors. They named other companies that are genuinely friendly. Went in to order exterior doors in early March, so there would be plenty of time to get them installed for our daughter's graduation party. Spent over an hour picking out the doors and handles. The carpenter came to install the doors and asked where the door handles were. Jason Roberts at CCL never ordered the handles that we spent so much time picking out. How do you order doors and no handles...especially when he sat thru the entire process and no changes had been made to the handle order. Needless to say, the doors were installed, but we had to put the old worn out handles on and fill the top hole with insulation. Looked super! read more

I have been dealing with Cape Cod Lumber since fall of 2001 and they have been great to deal with. They take care of their customers and their pricing is great. As a contractor, I get frustrated when I am working too far away to drive back to CCL for materials. Seems like I am always disappointed in both products and pricing when I have to go somewhere else. I also send my customers to CCL for their kitchen cabinetry. I tell people straight up that I will not install cabinets that come from the big box home centers. That's jut not worth the headache. With CCL, you have a direct connection with someone who can walk with you through product selection and through any potential problem resolution. That's worth a million bucks! read more
