Love this place. Great food and service will definitely go back. Highly recommend 100%

***COVID Review*** Takeout This was the second to last stop on my personally curated walking food tour with bae. It was honestly the most disappointing in terms of safety and precautions. The staff wore masks, but only a few folks had on gloves. The space felt cramped and claustrophobic with the amount and guests and staff; there were just too many people inside for my comfort. And they only take cash which is an issue for me beyond cleanliness. Thank goodness we were getting our tacos to-go. We ordered one of each option. Its a steakhouse so of course we got carne asada. The first were supposed to be street style with onion and cilantro but didn't come with either, but the carne asada tasted fine. The second (pictured), came with cheese, onion, and peppers on what looked like housemade flour tortillas. I didn't try them because my bf ended up taking them home, but he said, and I quote, they were lit! Overall probably not gonna add this to my list of regular spots, but it was cool or whatever. read more

Canton Regio - Mexican Near Me - Chicago, Illinois

I've been coming to Canton Regio for years. While living on 18th and Ashland, I would smell all the grilled delights when their patio was open on a warm summer's day. The interior is festive and chic, with warm colors and excellent quality. All of their grilled items are amazing, and I would most definitely recommend their skewers. Cantón Regio is perfect for groups, and most of their dishes are family-style. This is one of the few spots where I would get food to go and it's still good. My favorite item on the menu is their Ribeye. It's always seasoned well and juicy. The Ribeye is served with rice, beans, onions, a scorching Jalapeño pepper, and your choice of Flour or corn tortillas, which makes a fantastic combination of flavors if you decide to make yourself a taco. If I had a hard work day and didn't feel like cooking, I would treat myself to A Ribeye from Canton Regio. I have always been greeted by pleasant and attentive wait staff. I can't recall ever having to wait for a seat despite their popularity, and the main reason I always go back to this place is their consistency. I will note they are cash only, but they have an ATM on site, which charges a small fee. So if you are in the Pilsen area and want an excellent Ribeye steak with a Mexican twist, I recommend Cantón Regio. Based on my overall experience with them, five stars read more

Much nicer on the inside than you'd think. Right next door to a wonderful store. Our server was great. The Queso Findito with Chorizo was amazing. I got the steak tacos. They were ok. Few too many ingredients for me. Totally will remember them for the Fundito. Tres Leche Cake not worth 12$ and it had coconut on it. Yuck. read more

Food was excellent, atmosphere was family , though cramped there was a great live band. Just be aware it's cash only highly recommended

We have been going to this place since they opened. Food is good, service too, however the last few times we have been there, the bill hasn't been adding up to the menu prices. First time it happened, I brought it up to the waiter and he was very surprised he took the handwritten receipt back to the cashier and after a while brought the correct change. Second time I went with two friends, bill was wrong again but since I was the only one who seemed to notice, I didn't bring it up. Last time I only went because my daughter was craving their flour tortillas. I told her let's watch the bill! Sure enough, bill was higher than expected. I didn't have the energy to bring it up anymore but I'm never going back. We didn't bring liquor, therefore overcharge is not related to any fees. read more

This was considered a great place, the line was long and the food was authentic. My family planning to visit this restaurant... After the abuse that we read that the owner made to one of his employees, we decide that we need to take our $$ to another place. read more

Prompt seating and quickly took our BYOB and put it a ice bucket. The service and the food was phenomenal! They constantly made sure we had fresh salsas, tortillas and cactus gallo. The steak was cooked to perfection with a perfect amount of seasoning. The chicken wasn't dry, it was tender and juicy! The servers worked as a team to make sure all tables were taking care of. Those are the three things you have to try, the 1/2 chicken, 1/2 kilo skirt steak with grilled grilled onions and queso fundido with chorizo. It filled three hungry men, so I say it's good enough for 4 people. We were too full for dessert. However, will definitely be coming back. Only draw back, it's Pilsen, so they only accept cash, like many other places nearby. read more

My favorite spot to eat a medium well marinated flank Monterrey style! In the heart of Pilsen area there is this not so big but awesome Mexican restaurant! It is my usual spot when I'm in Chicago because this is the only place within 4 states that has this unique marinated flank, flour tortillas (not from wholesale stores) and real charro beans. Be prepared to wait about 30-40 minutes if you arrive later than 1pm but it will be worth it! No alcohol is sold inside but you can bring your own there is a liquor store like 4 doors away. We were a group of 5 people and we add just one guacamole and it was enough but if you are very hungry ask for flan or tres leches cake it was delicious! I wish it would be bigger but I will wait if necessary. Last but not least they only accept cash. read more

Canton Regio - Two pounds of arrachera (marinated flank) - Mexican Near Me - Chicago, Illinois

Cute Mexican restaurant with a great atmosphere and delicious food. Everything we ordered was fresh and delightful. The only drawbacks were canned soda and the music was VERY loud. Hard to hold a conversation. I would go back. read more

Ay. Dios. Mio. Meat lovers will appreciate the eff out of Canton Regio. You order steak by the kilo here for goodness sake. And the kitchen looks like it's completely engulfed in flames, which results in an out-of-this world, wood-fired meat paradise. It's obnoxiously loud with Mexican music blaring from what seems like very low-end boom boxes strategically placed everywhere, plus tons of large parties celebrating all kinds of special occasions, but I don't care. The service is okay-ish, the restaurant is not spectacularly fancy or even comfortable for that matter with it's impractical small round "rustic" (aka bumpy/uneven) tables all pushed together, but I don't care. I'm like an animal when it comes to eating here bc the Arrachera (skirt steak) is that good. AND the fried cheese is also a must. Shrimp tacos were also really good. Plus fresh delicious (handmade?) tortillas, tres leches cake, bottles of Topo Chico...and BOOM- five stars, baby. Bring your cash bc of course, they don't accept credit cards. read more

Great food, the tortillas were to die for. The service was good, and the location is good. As is common the restaurant was crowded and there is very little room to move around inside. read more

Queso Fundido goes with flour/corn homemade tortillas and lime. Excellent! Tortillas are a masterpiece! The BEST arrachera in Chicago! Very authentic, home made tortillas, salsas and the seasoning is on point and don't forget the Queso fundido. Love the ambiance, a little tight on the seating so expect a wait but it's well worth it. Service is great and the waiters keep it moving. I highly recommend this place if you looking for life changing Mexican steak done the right way read more

This is a local gem! Super reasonable prices and they serve family style. Their carne asada is sold by the kilo with all the fixings, and is so tasty. I've also tried their char grilled chicken and shrimp kabobs and they are great. The flour tortillas are so fresh and soft, I imagine someone's abuela back there cranking them out. They are byob, so bring some sangria or beer and enjoy authentic delish food. read more

Coming from CA, the last thing I expected was BOMB Mexican food in chicago, but this place blew my mind!!! Ordered the shrimp tacos with a side of rice and everything was so delicious!! The shrimp was juicy and the marinade was soooo flavorful. It paired perfectly with the toppings in the taco! The rice was also really moist and flavorful! I ordered takeout a little before the dinner rush and it only took about 5-7 mins for my order to be prepared! They were definitely busy, which means it's a great place, and everyone seemed local so you know it'll be amazing!! read more

Except for the queso fundido, which I didn't care for, the food was excellent. We actually went on a Saturday night and then came back the next week to order basically the same thing. My husband had the arrachera, I had sabinas tacos, and we took an order of steak fajitas to go for my mom. All three dishes had a bunch of flavor -- it's hard for me to describe what made them so special but they really were. We'll definitely be back to try more things. read more

Been here a few times but it's been years always remembered the steak being good. Today I visited and yes it was cinco de mayo so busy as expected. Ordered the chicken skewers and tacos Sabina's to try something different. The skewers lacked seasoning were chewy and tough. Very disappointing and the same for the tacos poorly assembled and lacked seasoning. Honestly even the beans served were different they used to taste so good, but now watery and tasted close to baby food. I would not return here. On top of everything the atm was broke and they are cash only which wasn't helpful. read more

It's was good to be back at Canton. The son's owner, Don Danny, was there and a pleasure to see. (He was the owner of Nuevo Leon across the street for over five decades.) The eggs with nopales and rice and beans was predictable and reliably delicious. Great to be back. read more

I had several people recommend this place to me so I finally went with a friend and they were right. The meat is delectable, tender and filled with flavor. It's different than your typical Mexican spot, you order the steak and kind of make your own tacos at the table. Truly you are coming here for the carne asada the sell it by the kilo. I did not realize it was BYOB however they do not allow hard liquor just beers and wines. Would definitely go back! read more

Been to this place twice already. My boyfriend came upon this place. I love it! Would recommend this place to my friend and family. The chicken is delicious. They use wood fire to cook the chicken. And the chip and guacamole is delicious. I order a limonade...yum! Would come back again and again. Street parking. Only cash. read more

First time there- as you walk in there is no sign that states " wait to be seated". So we just stood by the entrance, at least 4 different waiters made eye contact with us but not one word. It would of been nice if someone atleast said .. Someone will be right with you. Eventually a lady without uniform comes and seats us. My first dish of fish filet came out a little burnt on the side- returned it. I ordered the shrimp soup then. Still somewhat of a fail. My boyfriend's plate looked just sad. The best part was their Lemonade #1 Really bummed, but it is what it is! read more

This was my second time here and it didn't disappoint. We found parking on the side street. It was busy when we walked in but was seated right away. Majority of the tables were round so if you had a group of 4 or more they would put two round tables together. I think the round tables may have been a thought so more seating in the restaurant. But nonetheless we didn't have to worry. Chips and salsa, always a good free munchie! The chips were warm and 3 different salsas were given. Green salsa - a bit spicy but the right amount of heat for me. Red salsa a little less heat but good as well. Pico de Gallo with cactus - this was mild but my favorite. I mixed the red and green salsa to tame down the spiciness. We almost finished the basket. Then out came our skewers. They were hot and inviting. So tender and flavorful with the right amount of seasoning. The meat was tender and the small size tortillas made every bite tasty and wanting more. I would even just make a taco with the grilled peppers and onion. They do a great job. Then we had the Sabinas Tacos with grilled skirt steak. This time the tacos were filled more than last. The meat, beans and cheese all melted together when you bite into it. This would be a nice takeout meal. Not sure if it's the start of the holiday but the wait was out the door again. But they were seated pretty quickly. This will definitely be my go to place to take friends. read more

Very disappointed with this place. Bad attitudes, bad organization and to top it off bad food. I ordered today 2kg of arrachera and I asked to please make it well done. The lady told me 30mins, and they still had my dad waiting for 25mins after the 30 mins. Came home to very under cooked and very fatty meat. I called and asked for the manager, I talked to Daniel and told him I asked for well done meat and it was very under cooked and he had a terrible attitude. I get he couldn't do anything unless I brought it in but his attitude was uncalled for. Not once did he offer an apology for the mishap. I'm by midway I was not about to go back. They need to be more careful and pay attention. Maybe if they followed the rules of not having a packed place during this pandemic they would be more careful with the orders. read more

Came here with my boyfriend who is from NL so we were excited to support this Mexican restaurant with Northern Mexico influences I ordered the "skirt steak" tacos and my boyfriend ordered the tacos Sabinas. The tacos I ordered tasted like regular taco meat on a regular milagro tortilla. Similar to what you would find at any other taco spot, but the Sabinas tacos were really good quality meat (rib eye and other meats) super tender on what I believe to be home made flour tortillas. They serve a house sauce on the side that was super spicy. Looking forward to trying again. read more

We walked in and waited a bit, but it was very much worth it. Inside it feels cozy and homie. The waiter was very nice to us and came by frequently to check on us eating. The meat in both of the dishes shown were very very tender. The tortillas seemed to be home made and were also very good. My girlfriend's mom had coffee which was also very good according to her. Came here looking forward to having some menudo early on a Sunday morning and was told they ran out. Two minutes later two tables next to mine were served menudo. When I asked the server and owner what happened they just shrugged their shoulders and walked away. Service was horrible, the hot chocolate was clearly powder mix not authentic Abuelita chocolate. This pains me to write this, but well Canton Regio needs to figure some things out. I like the BYOB aspect but by not having a bar it gets VERY crowded. We went in on Friday , 2/21/20 for supper and came in at 8:30. We were told a 30 minute wait, okay cool it's a weekend. At 9:10 we were told it would be another 30-35 minutes because they were busy with parties. Now that is where I get irritated. We waited for 40 minutes crammed up front and then were told another 30-35 minutes, not cool. If you don't take reservations, you can't give all your tables away to 3 large parties and every else can kick rocks. Not good business at all. I hate writing negative reviews but that is just bad practice. So we left after an hour plus of waiting. I may go back, may not. This left a bad taste in my mouth. read more

After much debate I ventured out to this place to try the " carne asada " which is the signature item that brings in the people . I was surprised at how good it was along with a great presentation. Carne asada by the kilo ****** great flavor ,soft and goes perfectly with the grilled onions and jalapeño that accompany your order Shrimp skewers ****** outstanding presentation and the grilled flavor on the shrimp and vegetables is top notch. The dish that really makes me want to go back Is the complimentary pork taco they gave me it was both tender and spicy without the spice overbearing the pork . read more
