This place is INCREDIBLE. Came here for the first time last Friday, and was able to snag a table for two immediately when we walked in. Pro tip: this place is BYOB and has a liquor store right across the street- game changer. To eat, we ordered the queso fundito, the 1/2 kilo of Arrachera, which I believe came with the bean soup, chips & salsa. Everything here was absolutely outstanding. The queso fundito was more food than needed for 2 people (which I appreciated), and the Arrachera steak was so so SO flavorful. The presentation of the Arrachera is awesome too, and the grilled onions were a perfect touch. The ambiance of this place is warm, inviting, and electric. Someone (who may have been the owner or a manager) came over to introduce himself and ask how the food was. This was a super personal touch that we both appreciated. Over all, this is definitely my top 5 favorite Mexican restaurants I've tried. I suggest anyone to come in, order the Arrachera, and try it for yourself! read more

I have wanted to dine here for quite awhile now. The pictures lured me in months ago. I finally got a friend to come with me & drive too! SCORE... We came in on an early Saturday afternoon, we were advised to seat ourselves anywhere we'd like which was cool. After we sat down we were given chips & 3 different salsas (WHICH WERE DELICIOUS). Our server was Jerod he was AWESOME!!!! He was very friendly & genuine w/serving us. We ordered 3 kabob skewers 2 chicken & 1 shrimp. We also ordered a half kilo of the skirt steak. With corn & flour shells. It took the food about 20 mins to be prepared. The 1st thing I tried was the shrimp skewer, it had a fishy taste & it wasn't hot like I like it. The chicken skewer was bland & cold. SKIP THE SKEWERS!!!! Then I made a taco on flour shell & OMG it was bomb.com. It was hot, juicy, tender, & seasoned to perfection! The house made flour tortillas were a bomb too. Man this place is going to have all of my money. The food was good & the price was cheap! They're also BYOB.. Can't beat good food & damn good service! My wife and I love this place. It is the best breakfast deal in the city. They have about 15 different delicious meals for $10 and always a great special. Plus, they bring you chips and salsa and a potato taco before your meal. The service is great. I highly recommend it. But remember, it is cash only. read more

General: This restaurant is a great higher end spot in Pilsen that does a really good job of sticking to traditional mexican food. Definitely recommend the experience of eating here because you can order a your choice of skirt steak and chicken by the kilo, with tortillas on the side. Only thing holding this place back was the service and staff which was a bit lack luster. This restaurant is great for medium to large groups. Atmosphere: The rustic interior setting mirrors that of haciendas on the country side in and the plate that our food arrives in which was extremely delicious are the same scales that they use in Mexico. This place is loud but you can still hold a conversation with a person in front of you. Food Quality: The food was tremendously good. We ordered skewers which were grilled at the perfect temperature so that the veggies were sweet with that natural Smokey flavor. The tortillas were traditional in the sense that they were smaller in size. The steak and chicken was fresh and flavorful with each bite. This is the best quality of the restaurant Why it's not a 5 star: Our waiter was rude and would leave for long periods of time while we were there. I witnessed a cook plainly dabbed hands in water after using the restroom before leaving ! This would have been 5 stars if you can get passed those details. Overall: This is a must visit spot in Pilsen and the food is definitely worth it alone. read more

Its not the same - a shadow of its former glory. There is nothing wrong with this place except today I got average food and this place WAS way above average. My favorite restaurant in Pilsen after Neuvo Leon burned down. I came back here for one thing the Skewers. It comes with Steak, Chicken, Shrimp with roasted Onions And Pepper. To die for! But today I couldn't taste the terrific marinade on the beef too much tomato sauce. The shrimp was OK something was missing. I don't know what. The presentation alone on the whole Rotisserie Chicken served in a large silver ornamental platter is worth the order. It tastes good too. I'm basing this the last time I was here like a year or two ago. Initially today 10/27/18 at around 4:45 they had no chips. We had to wait. The place was semi full but not packed. I talked to the owner seated close to the Kitchen and he said he's own it for 3 years so it's not new management, maybe the cook had an off day. read more

What a great meal and fun time. Came with a group of 4 and started with the skewers. What a cool idea to present them hanging. My favorite was the steak. It was so flavorful and tender. The veggies had a great char to it. For dinner got the whole chicken and 1/2 kilo of skirt steak. Both were cooked perfectly! Cant wait to come back. read more

A coworker is getting married so another coworker, who has been here before, organized a little bridal get together with about 6 or 7 ladies. I didn't know what to expect, but this place was upscale! Food was EXCELLENT - way better than I expected. My coworker ordered for us - we ordered a bunch of stuff, like family style, and shared. The meat was tender and delicious, homemade warm chips, rice and beans. It was all excellent. I want to bring my husband here now as sort of a fancy-schmancy date night! read more

The Sabina tacos were absolutely phenomenal. The ribeye steak melts in your mouth with the refried beans, jalapeños, cheese and other items. The tortilla is freshly made and unlike any other. The skewers were visually appealing, but the chicken is chicken breast and not as flavorful compared to the steak and shrimp. You can mix and match! Side note: cash only! Lively place, food and service were very good. We went on a Saturday night and the place was packed. The only thing was the recorded music was blaring and the live mariachi band was competing by playing louder which made conversation almost impossible. I'm guessing/hoping it's much less loud during the week as i'd like to make this a regular place for mex. read more

I came in for a birthday party for 15 people. There was much confusion because they did not record the reservation and we had to wait a while before they could "squeeze" us in. Besides the mishap, the food and service was wonderful. Ambiance is vibrant and loud with abundant conversations and mariachi. They were lot of groups dining. Free BYOB! The menu is all on 1 page. Which makes decisions easier and it felt like whatever they offer, they do well. The food - OMG was very good. I don't love Mexican but I loved everything here because it was a nice twist on the norm. I learned I liked cactus everything from the complimentary cactus salsa to the roasted cactus leaves that came with our meals. I liked all the steak dinners even the side of soup with beans. The panela with veggies was wonderful. The presentation and preparation of food it done simple yet with unique touches. I want to go back get everything again! read more

Food (5/5): You get to order your meats by kilos and they're soooooo juicy and full of flavor! There's roasted jalapeños and leeks adding even more flavor in the meats. It comes out served in a traditional kilo scale. The skewers were absolutely delicious and each order comes with 3 big skewers hanging from a metal rack. You can refill the tortillas as many times as you want. I loved the nopales salsa it was very flavorful and mild! Atmosphere (4/5): It was a little too dark on the top floor. The whole interior was a castle like style with bricks and high ceiling chandeliers. Even the wooden chairs fit the theme along with all the plating aesthetics. Very nice decor and the bathroom were big wooden doors as well! Service (5/5): The staff was very friendly and attentive. They always made sure everything was okay and constantly asked if we needed to refill anything. Food came out very fast upon order. Waiter was very friendly and polite. cash only taco spot with a Michelin star? a combo I never thought I'd see. they give you this delicious soup as a starter that I basically drank because it was so good. salsas are fresh and are made with charred veggies so it has a nice robust smokiness to it. skirt steak was juicy, tender, flavorful and SOME how smokey from the indoor grill. shrimp tacos were also great. nice sized shrimp with a nice slaw. the house made tortillas are the star of the show. don't usually like flour but they were my favorite. Service was also amazing. Would recommend stopping in for a few tacos. read more

Canton Regio is located right at the heart of the bustling 18th street. The interior decor (mostly wooden) is really nice, and there's a lot going on inside. Definitely a very pleasant and clean interior. The place is very popular and is thus often crowded, so be aware that you may end up waiting for a while if you come in on a Friday night. They also have a live mariachi group playing and singing walking around to various tables inside, which makes for great entertainment beyond the food alone! However, the interior can get really noisy which is a downside. The food itself is really good. I've tried the half-chicken entree and the chicken skewers (brochetas de pollo). I wasn't a huge fan of the half chicken entree as it was kind of plain, and the texture of the chicken was kind of off. However, the chicken skewers are to die for! The chicken is very tender and juicy, and I really liked the seasoning on the chicken making it hella flavorful. If I return I would definitely order the chicken skewers again! The downsides to this place is that it is often very loud and it is also cash only. Also, there were some recent rumors about employee mistreatment here (in a Chicago Tribune article), so depends on how you feel about these type of issues. Also, menu items are kinda pricey, but that's to be expected with such a nice restaurant offering a complete experience. read more

I was afraid, being from So Cal, that any of the Mexican food I tried in Chicago was going to disappoint me. And there WERE a few spots who did that were straight-up YUCK. But Canton Regio gets my stamp of approval. The food was very flavorful, homemade tortillas, and the service was great. The group I was with and I have concluded that this place can stand up & compete against other Mexican spots in my area in Cali. read more

They tried to sneak an extra $30 on the bill! Luckily we added up the total amount and caught the scam. The food for the price was not worth the price. I got the huevos rancheros for $12 and it came with 2 eggs sunny side up and a 1/4 cup of rice and beans and no bacon. Place is not worth it to me I would save your money instead of dining at this establishment. If you do go please make sure you dress warm as it is extremely cold inside. Server was very helpful and nice. read more

Heaven..im in Heaven.. I'm in Love with this place! They serve in Kilos! I ordered the chicken and Gabie ordered the steak. It came in a weight bucket..served with peppers and green onions. On the side was a salsa trio with several sides to make your fav taco combo with the fresh corn tortillas fresh off the grill. The chicken was so tasty and juicy. Grilled to perfection. I didn't want to stop eattung but my pants were stretching to the max! :). This place is in the historic Pilsen neighborhood, a Latin..Puerto Rican dominate area in Chicago. They only take cash and you can only stay for 2 hours..lol. crowd control.. and it's BYOB! read more

The quality of the food and service is not the same anymore. The food portions got a lot smaller and not all items on the menu were available. The biggest issues is the overcharge on the bill, BEWARE that they write the receipt by hand and it's hard to tell what each item is and the totals do not add up, the final total in our case was $20 more! This is not the first time this has happened to us! This might be normal shady practice that happens often, we just caught it. We mentioned it to the waiter and they corrected the bill. The receipt prices that were charged are different from the menu prices and you are charged for items not ordered! Also tip is automatically added to your bill, in our case it was a 23% charge, never again. The food is overpriced and quality isn't there anymore. They are robbing people at this place, the math is not adding up BE CAREFUL or AVOID this place all together. There are better options and it cash only, smh. read more

My absolute favorite place! If you're looking for authentic Mexican food that actually tastes good, this is your spot. On Thursday night, they have a live mariachi band. We ordered the Kilo arreciera. The steak melts in your mouth. Very well seasoned. We also ordered the shrimp skewers. Very tasty! The red sauce is veryyyy Spicy but very good. For dessert, don't leave without ordering the tres leches. Best tres leches I've ever had in my ENTIRE life, and I'm a tres leches connoisseurs. The service was great. The staff was very nice. Will definitely come back. read more

The food is delicious here. However, customers please be aware that the tip is already being included in your bill. I was with a party of 4 and we got charged a 25% tip by the waiter just because he chose to add that amount himself. We have no issue tipping, we just didn't like the abuse and liberty the waiter took to just add the tip himself which is not even a requirement of the restaurant. I'm sure there's people who don't look at their bill, notice this tip charge and STILL tip on the side. So beware!!! read more

This restaurant is for Cowboy's and Women who take care of Cowboy's . You can tell by the Mural on the brick wall . It's not big and it's usually warm inside. Two small seats on a little Patio that was awesome for this Cowboy . The food is spectacular! In presentation, in portion or value for your money , and in flavor . You might have to wait in line , street parking. Those are a couple things that aren't fun but the reward is shrimp on a skewers , Chicken on Skewers , and arrachera by the Kilo . 30$ for a half Kilo . 16$ for 3 Skewers of your choice . Ribeye tacos . Big shrimp. Everything is Marinated, salsas are fresh homemade. Flour tortillas are fresh homemade. Prices and portions are appropriate. Cash only . You can tell by the clientele that this place is for real . People, it doesn't get any better in Pilson , in Chicago. It's a drive from the western burbs but wild horses couldn't stop this Cowboy. OH. WHERE TF DO I EVEN BEGIN. WELL.... Let me first start by saying the food at this place is UNBELIEVABLE. so bomb. Like the shrimp skewers to die for. But other than that nope. CANCELLED. AND HERES WHY... So mi and my friends call 2 hours prior to coming in just to ensure we are aware of the wait time. Host guy aka short man with ONE eyeball let's us know not ONCE but TWICE that the wait time was zero. Okay. Bet. We make our way to the restaurant. We enter (3 out of the 5 out of the group) and Host let's mi know that the wait time was 45 MINUTES TO AN HOUR. mind you i had called SEVEN MINUTES PRIOR TO ARRIVAL. SO BRO. WTF DO YOU MEAN 45 minutes to AN HOUR. Okay. It's fine. We let him know we would wait. 20 minutes pass and he seats us at our table. 10 mins later the one eye ball host aggressively comes to the table (mind you we had not even had a waiter come to give us glasses for our wine since it was BYOB or an ice bucket for our beers. But whatever) and informs us that he needs our two empty chairs. We explained our guest were on their way. So he would have to get chairs else where. Now, i know what y'all are thinking. "The place was packed." NOPE. "Why wasn't our full party seated?" UM NO. WHERE WAS IT EVER COMMUNICATED THAT OUR ENTIRE PARTY NEEDED TO BE SEATED PRIOR TO GETTING A TABLE. OH YEA, no where. I digress. So an hour goes by. Within that hour our friends arrive. It takes us not once BUT FIVE TIMES for a waiter to FINALLY get our order. One Waiter who's lips were filled and semi botched, gave us side eye, kept talking shit and didn't wanna serve us. Okay Kylie Jenner. It's fine. So another nice young man serves us instead. We get our food. BOMB! So good. We even order more. Again BOMB. Now, as we are waiting for our second order someone's son is BLASTING his new beats pill he got from Christmas in the middle of the restaurant, the wait staff gives us water cups instead of wine glasses but then proceeds to give the table next to us wine glasses, oh and the food took a very long time to come. Again, what Evs. We are all just enjoying each other's company. Keek keeing and what not. So we finish our meal. Still conversing. Minutes later the Host with the one eye ball wants to again, aggressively approach the table and tells us he needs our table. Ok bet. Let's pay. So we wait. And wait. And wait. And wait. NO ONE HAS COME TO GIVE US THE BILL. MAKE IT MAKE SENSE. YOU WANT US TO LEAVE BUT YOU DONT WANNA GIVE US OUR BILL. UMMMMMMMM. as y'all can imagine we are annoyed. We just wanna go home now. We arrived at 730 and now it's 10. What the actual fuck. So we FINALLY get a hold of a waiter. He comes with the bill. We all give my friend cash. She asks for THE CHANGE BACK. waiter comes back. GIVES HER CHANGE. We begin to exit. Then my girl and her guy get stopped by said waiter, a wanna be bouncer AND THE ONE EYEBALLED HOST, accusing us of not paying. So i return back inside, an ask what's the situation. They explain that the change given back to my girl was change. Not the bill minus what we owed. Basically he wanted us to just tip him without giving us our change bacK. TUH! IN WHAT WORLD DOES THIS EXPERIENCE END IN SOMEONES SON GETTING A FUNKY LIL $8 TIP. ABSOLUTELY TF NOT. In conclusion. Thank you to the cooks at said restaurant for impeccable taste. Too fucking bad the wait staff has no home training. Blessings and possibly see y'all in the new year! read more

I went with a few friends on Friday night. It was a great vibe! They had Great music playing and the staff were very friendly. I grabbed the Sabina tacos, it was a great deal for 3 tacos. You can taste the quality of the food, it was definitely exceptional. The fact that this place was BYOB made it a lot more fun. Definitely check it out! read more

This place is amazing and delicious and I'm so mad it's taken me so long to get here because all those wasted months. Before I go farther into the review: be aware this is a CASH ONLY restaurant. They have an ATM inside but do yourself a favor and grab cash beforehand. My friend and I came here on a Saturday afternoon at like 1pm and it was pretty busy but we were seated immediately. People seemed to come in waves so some people who arrived after us had to wait longer. Which would totally suck because this is the kind of restaurant where they don't rush you out. So just be aware of that. For an appetizer we shared the queso fundido with chorizo. WOW. The cheese and chorizo was delicious. So thick and cheesy. We ended up taking home leftovers. For food we opted for the chicken and steak fajitas and they were impeccable. The steak was seasoned so perfectly. It just hit the spot. Highly recommend this spot! read more

This spot has not disappointed before the pandemic and after. It has great service, food is fresh and delicious but most importantly clean. I definitely recommend the tacos and the flan with rompope. Established in 1962.

Nuevo León was established in 1962 and was reestablished again in 2016 as Cantón Regio. The original concept thrived for decades as an authentic, Mexican neighborhood restaurant. The original venue would be reduced to ashes after a fire burned down the business during the holiday season of 2015. Thanks to divine intervention, support of the local community and various fundraising efforts, the Gutiérrez family has been back in business since early 2016. Today, their fresh & exciting concept pays tribute to Northern Mexico's culinary traditions. Alongside his wife, his daughter and his granddaughter, Senior continues to own and operate Pilsen's premier, Mexican Steakhouse. I don't consider them expensive. I keep my tab down by also ordering chicken, which I think is better than the steak. Being BYOB is definitely a huge plus. But, keep in mind that they are cash only.
