We came here for the first time on Cinco de Mayo with friends who highly recommended it, and it did not disappoint. We started with the complimentary chips and salsa, plus a side of queso both were delicious. My girlfriend and I ordered skinny margaritas lime which were super refreshing and really well made. My husband and I shared the chicken , steak and shrimp poppers. Could add a little more flavor but otherwise everything was cooked perfectly. To end the night, we had their warm mexican apple pie with cinnamon, ice cream, and caramel sauce, prepared right at the table. Such a fun touch and the perfect dessert. Food was pretty good. Happy hour specials are available. $7.50 house margaritas were a thumbs up. They can and will sneak up on you. They offer table side guacamole, offer chips and salsa for the table. Even queso. I ordered a small house salad. The cilantro lime vinegar dressing is a must. I have to start this review by first complementing Luci! First impression speaks volumes and this is $1 million hostess here! Her humor, genuine, smile, and professionalism go beyond reproach! Logan was our server and I have to say he was great! Very patient as the four of us kept talking and he wanted to know if we were ready to order and when we realized we were talking so much he just handled it like a true champ. Gave us our time to catch up and then came back. His knowledge of the menu was outstanding, and his recommendations were spot on. Each of us interestingly enough had tacos. The traditional taco was a bit salty from my taste, but had good flavor. The sirloin taco was outstanding. The restaurant is clean, warm and inviting. I can't believe I waited so long (2 years) to come back here because I enjoyed it so much the first time and even more so now. The restaurant has a wide variety of food options including a delicious Carne Asada which was my choice today. The hostess was warm and friendly and the service only got better from there. We came for a work lunch with about 20 of us. We had the private room off the dining room which had plenty of space for us. The service was quick for a group our size but most of the restaurant was slow since it was a Friday afternoon around 1:30. They had a good selection of different options on the lunch menu and the pricing was good for the portion sizes. A lot of us got enchiladas and tacos and a fair amount got the Chipotle chicken. Cantina Laredo is one of my favorite places to eat. When we lived in Jacksonville, one of my friends introduced me to this wonderful restaurant and I fell in love with it. I love that you get a warm and cold salsa (warm is my favorite of the two) and my favorite dish is the Enchiladas Suizas. I don't live near here anymore but any time I see one (I spotted one in Dallas airport before) I make it a point to stop in and eat. This is our third try one time every year for the last three years to see if this place has improved. Why? Because we are Texas Tex-Mex fans, and we love their restaurants in Arkansas and in Texas. But the one here in Jacksonville leaves me speechless and not in a good way. I recall writing a Google review over five years ago about how outdated and dirty this restaurant was. Nothing has changed. After five years, nothing has changed. It's still dirty and in need of a desperate renovation. It makes me sad because they are sitting on a gold mine being located in St. John's Town Center with Jacksonville having no higher end Mexican food restaurant. And that's what this restaurant is in other states. They keep the crowd coming in because of its location, but the ambience and the decor and the food are severely lacking. Our waitress was fantastic. And the manager was good because she did address our concerns. However, I only took one picture because I was so exasperated and that is of this dish. I requested the pork Carnitas to be substituted for a fresh grilled chicken breast. Please look at the chicken. Not only is it not a fresh grilled chicken breast, but it's a pressed chicken breast - not a real chicken breast . It's more like a deli meat chicken breast cubed into my dish. All I had to do is look at it and send it back immediately. We also enjoyed the cheese dip and the tableside guacamole. The cheese dip was not true cheese dip, but rather a cheese dip mixture. But I have to give kudos because the tableside guacamole always rocks. It was delicious. Here's to hoping that the restaurant sees my yelp review. Bring back the Cantina Laredo quality that I know from other states. Return to your high dining upscale Mexican experience. I came here for happy hour with my husband and a friend on a Friday evening. It was not too crowded. Their happy hour is mon- Friday 4-7 PM. I hosted a birthday dinner with 10 women here and it was excellent, primarily the service. When we arrived, they had already set the table with 10 waters and chips and salsa. The waitress, Isabel, was in good spirits and took our drink orders, apps, and then entrees in a timely manner while still giving us time to enjoy each other's company. The food was good as well, I ordered the Cancun plate which came with 2 enchiladas and a taco. Everything was more reasonably priced than I remember and the drink were good (and strong lol). I am not a fan of their salsa - I think they use fire roasted tomatoes? I prefer just fresh tomatoes for salsa. Chips were crispy, thin, and salty - which I do love! We also ordered some queso... it is one of the better quesos I've tried. I had pescado (mahi mahi) tacos. The sauce on them was good! The fish itself was pretty plain. Not much flavor to speak of. The mango on the tacos were good! Several people at the table got chicken enchiladas. One of the visitors was surprised they didn't have the red sauce (she didn't fully read the description so, no harm). Everyone who had them enjoyed them! Even the one who expected red sauce. Our server was amazing. Visited an appropriate amount and was easy to find for the check at the end. She was helpful in menu questions and explained specials well. I have been there more often in the evening and it can get quite loud (but not so much you can't hear your own conversation) but during lunch it wasn't super crowded and the volume was a pleasant level. Anyhow, we had a few stops to make at the Town Centre and decided we were eating here instead of heading back out to the beach. I voted to try this one. We came at 8:15 pm on a Wednesday night, so maybe timing had something to do with it but our overall time here was just ehh. It took us about 15-20 minutes to get our first round of drinks and we ordered the second we saw our server. I got the watermelon margarita and my partner ordered their "where's the smoke" margarita that was just ehh-not bad not good. The watermelon margarita was the better choice with the tajin rim; very refreshing. I had ordered the Cancun plate that was definitley a bang for your buck at $16.50 for all the food I received. Flavor was good and food was hot. My partner got the carne asada plate that was a little bit on the pricier side being that it was a skirt steak but very flavorful. His dish was savory and well seasoned. Okay: Options- menu has definitely shrank post Covid, but they will make some items upon request. It was a Friday night, so there was a bit of a wait, but not too bad. It's been years since I've been here, but my friend from out of town picked it and so we met up. We were a party of 6. When we got to our table, there was no settings (unlike other tables we saw around us with silverware/small plates). It took over 20 minutes before anyone asked us if we wanted drinks, even a water. Apparently, we weren't assigned a server, even though they sat us. We waited a long while, until finally, one of my friends flagged someone down and no one knew who our server was, so the guy decided to take our table. Honestly, I don't know if we should be grateful he offered to serve us, or offended because he didn't really have a choice, no one else was going to serve us they were "busy." Anyways, the food was mediocre. I liked mine (steak quesadilla), but the rest of the table was unimpressed and disappointed. They said the food used to be so good before and now it's like they cut corners everywhere. Came out cold or smaller than anticipated. I was content with my order of adult beverage and steak. Not, sure if I'll make another trek out to this place though. Had it not been a whole table of friends who picked this place, I probably would have walked out and took my business elsewhere.
