This was the blandest Mexican food I've ever had. Our server (great guy BTW) said that according to the chef authentic Mexican food doesn't use much seasoning or strong flavors. Really? REALLY? A quick Google search shows Mexico has a problem with too much salt. At least the chips and salsa were good. Anyway, aside from the flavor issue, our seat were bad. I had servers zooming past the whole time we were there. My wife said I servers almost hit my head a few times. A manager and the Chef both reached out to us to address our concerns, for which I'm grateful. That kind of attitude alone is worth a star. A nice touch was the glass of water with lemon. I didn't have to ask and then have the lemon never show up. Salsa with great chips was brought out and is very good. The Guava Mojito was refreshing and minty. It could have used more Guava or less mint. The Rellenos Camarones was excellent but there are 4 shrimp on top and none inside. Lots of flavor but overpriced. Since the pepper wasn't breaded you could taste the flavor. I would definitely order it again. The Mango Tres Leches cake was excellent - don't miss. I live in MN, and all my Minnie peeps know how it is, we don't go to the Mall of a America unless we have to. This place is insane. I was here for a work events, ate here twice, and was pleasantly surprised by this restaurant. Great service with tasty food. It was near empty on a weekday over lunch. I was worried, an empty restaurant usually means the place sucks lemons. The restaurant is massive, with a "patio," a good spot to people watch. Their hot salsa is pretty good, served with warm chips. I'd recommend the queso blanco dip if you're in the mood for a bowl of hot cheese. For mains I've tried the chicken tamales, carnitas sliders, and the sopes de barbacoa. The sopes was a tad dry, but the tamales and sliders were excellent. This place is certainly one of the better restaurants in the mall. read more

I'm going to give a positive review here even though my wife and I both fell ill immediately after eating here. It's entirely possible that this is a coincidence, and no other reviewers report similar problem. So I won't hold it against the restaurant. But it may have to be a while before we go back and try this again. I have to say, the most amazing and surprising thing about Cantina Laredo is the most basic feature of any Mexican restaurant: the chips and salsa. Seriously the best I've ever had! The chips appeared and tasted as if they were friend on the spot, and the salsa was dark, rich, and spicy. I could go back and just eat this alone. The carne asada I ordered was so severely over-salted I almost couldn't eat it. Luckily this isn't the end of the story. Other than the saltiness, the skirt steak was cooked perfectly, and was accompanied by a tasty lime sauce that provided a distractingly nice flavor. The lime rice with avocado was a nice touch as well. And the beans were solid. My wife ordered the pollo tacos, and was gratified this was available as a gluten-free option. The rice and beans included in this plate were also nice. The bar menu looked like a lot of fun, and when I do return to this restaurant someday I hope to try one of the margaritas. Cantina Laredo is overall a fun atmosphere and I'll bet it's fun in a group. A bit more upscale than many of the other restaurants at MOA, and I can see why it's so popular. read more

I decided as my schedule permitted to give it another try. I was contacted by management and explained to me what I experienced three weeks ago was not the norm. Man was he right. Seated promptly by the manager, greeted quickly by the waiter started things off with a good experience. Things got better. When I go to restaurants with mexican flare, I tend to get the same thing. Try the guacamole, and have a beef and cheese enchilada with rice. The guacamole was creamy with flavor, and my main dish came out piping hot. Just the right portion size made it a great dinner. Absolutely one of my favorite places to eat at when shopping around the Mall of America. It's just such a good restaurant that probably doesn't deserve to be inside of a mall but should totally be a standalone Mexican spot and I would still be a frequent visitor. They specialize in modern Mexican cuisine with a slight American fair fusion. You can find all your favorite classics on the menu such as tacos, enchiladas, and burritos but also very unique and fun creations like their mini Ahi Tuna Tacos; bursting with flavor, they are a great little appetizer to share at the beginning of your meal. Free bottomless warm chips & salsa make it to your table right as you sit down and if you're in the mood for some bonus dips, try the Queso Blanco. It's one of the most unique cheese dips I've tried. It's also a great vegetarian option! The table side guacamole is also a must and makes for such a fun experience. It's made tableside (duh) with fresh avocados and your choice of toppings while you get to watch the show. Cantina also has a great bar and an excellent cocktail program; their margaritas are amazing! Definitely the best cocktails at the mall for sure! To top it all off, Cantina also offers delicious brunch on the weekends!! And again, even though it's inside a mall, it is totally worth going! The brunch menu is smaller but I've been about 3 times now and loved everything we've ordered! Highly recommend the Asada y Huevos - grilled steak with marinated onions & chimichurri and two eggs AND the Chicken Fajita Omelet - grilled chicken with chipotle wine sauce; both are so yummy! All plates come with breakfast potatoes and fresh fruit! You even get a COMPLIMENTARY Mimosa or Bloody Maria (bloody mary made with tequila) with any of the entrees! Fantastic deal! If you're dining in for dinner, you absolutely have to try the Relleno de Camarones! It's a green chili pepper stuffed with cheese, mushrooms, and grilled shrimp, served with avocado, roasted red pepper, cilantro lime rice and charred street corn! If you love seafood, you need this! It's so rich and creamy, the flavors perfectly complement each other and the texture of the pepper with the rice and shrimp...I mean it's just so good! I haven't stopped thinking about it since I've tried it for the first time months ago. Chef Mauricio really hit it on the nail with this one. The decor matches the good vibes and the vivacious colors follow along with the fun flavors of the dishes. Service here is also on another level compared to your typical dining experience at the mall. Everyone is very attentive and helpful; willing to offer suggestions and recommendations or answer any questions! Even when they get packed on the weekends, it's a great time here. Not to be confused with The New Cantina... whoops. This was one of my uncle's favorite happy hour spots. They have happy hour until 7! He passed away recently so the family decided to have a celebration of life here. They were so kind and accommodating. The appetizers were all really good. I tried the ahi tuna tacos, nachos, chicken quesadillas, and then the barbacoa tacos from the main menu. My favorites would have to be the nachos and the ahi tuna tacos. The nachos are amazing, each individually layered with delicious beef, cheese, and the fixings. No chip left behind. I'll for sure be coming back to remember my uncle and have a great happy hour. read more

This was my second or third time going here and every time I am quite surprised by the pricing. It is overpriced for the dishes provided compared to other restaurants that serve similar food. I ordered the shrimp salad. Which only came with 4 pieces of shrimp which was really disappointing when i'm paying around $15 for the salad itself. Our waitress was not very friendly, which made the experience even worse. I have been here in the past and the food is good, but for the prices and bad service it is not worth going again. read more

GET THE TACO PLATTER! They give you carne asada, carnitas, and fish. However, they were out of fish and replaced it with al pastor. Omg it was an upgrade. My boyfriend and I aren't fond of fish, so we were happy with the change. The 9 tacos were definitely worth it. The meat was delicious. The salsa Verde was also really good with the tacos. Love the cocktails (especially the margs) but the mojito was too bitter last time I went (probably from the lime rinds that were left in the drink). You get free chips and salsa and can also pay for table side guac. Honestly, it's a great spot after a day at the mall. After walking out of the Rainforest Cafe for to horrible service, we were promptly greeted by Cantina Loredo. Originally from Los Angeles, I was sceptical about Midwest Mexican. My fears were immediately put to rest as soon as I walked in and got a whiff of the dining room aroma. The service was phenomenal and the food even better. It is not traditional mexican, it is Tex-Mex which has it's very own spice palette. Ambience was nice, but that was the best part. The chips were fresh but the salsa was lacking. It was missing that but of spicy which would have elevated it from ok to great. Had the Velacruz Enchilada and my spouse had the beef enchilada. The Velacruz was nice, but the beef was underwhelming. The menu lists it as using chopped sirloin, but it's just ground beef overly seasoned with taco seasoning. Also ordered a Sprite, which was flat. When requesting a replacement, they waiter didn't really seem all that interested in fixing it. In its place I ordered a sparkling water from the fountain was just fine and full of carbonation. When it came to the bill, the waiter did at least waive the drink. Overall, though, a mixed experience. I don't know that I can recommend. read more

In the area for business and was staying at a nearby Hotel. I was wandering the mall looking for a place to eat. So, by passed several places, came to a corner where there were three places that looked ok. By that, I mean, not too busy so I would have to wait, but, plenty of customers to indicate it was a good place for dinner. So, I checked Yelp for reviews...no help there as all three had received really good reviews. Couldn't make a decision based on Yelp reviews alone. Even though I had eaten Mexican food just a few days prior, I decided Cantina Laredo looked the best bet. I was seated immediately. Nice decor, plenty of light, but not glaring. A good crowd in the bar area and quite a few tables with people. But noise level was quite low. My waiter, Jordan, greeted me quickly, cheerfully and took my drink order and even asked if I wanted a glass of water besides my drink. When he came back, with fresh chips and salsa, he took my order. The salsa was not your ordinary tomato chunky style salsa. It was darker, finer texture. Not hot, but a good amount of spiciness and an almost sweet taste. Not sure what it was, but it was really tasty. My main meal, Three Barbacoa Tacos. Now, the menu says corn tortillas, but not like the usual corn taco shells where they are crunchy. These were corn tortillas, that were soft, but definitely had the corn taste. A sizable portion of beef, cheese, onion, "charred" corn and tomatillo sauce. Side dishes were refried black beans and rice. I'm not a big fan of black beans, but I tried them anyway. Glad I did, nice flavor and smooth texture. I mixed in some of the rice, too. Good stuff! All in all, a very nice meal with excellent flavors and very good service! Definitely recommend Cantina Laredo if your in the area and are in the mood for a good Mexican style meal. read more

The Cantina recently reopened on the 4th floor of the Mall of America. We were excited for the reopening since this is one of our favorite spots at the Mall. The food is fabulous, the margaritas are large and very tasty. Get a table by the windows to enjoy some amazing people watching. The only reason I gave 4 stars is for the service. The wait staff is not bad but they always seem busy, even if they only have a handful of tables. This leads to a less personable level of service. Went this past Monday evening and I was surprised how busy this place got. Roomy dinning that can easily accommodate larger parties. Service was really good and the environment was pleasant for couples, HH or even a family dinner. All the food had excellent presentation. We had the chicken fajitas and an enchilada dinner plate although there was an amazing looking salad at the next table I wanted too except it was so big (I'll get that when I come back). Complimentary chips and salsa were tasty and they kept the refills flowing. I had one of their margaritas which was nothing special, but not bad either. Service was good. Prices seemed a little on the higher end for Mexican, but it must be the "modern Mexican" that gave it its value. I mean my fajitas were $20 and they only gave me like an ounce of pico ($3 up charge for extra and it wasn't anything to write home about). I needed another tortilla, but thought that might be $3 too (they were good tortillas though). My fajitas place looked amazing, but my chicken was kind of dry, not many peppers--primarily onions. Portions were large. I'll come back. Good option for dinner after walking the mall or before a movie. read more

A newish place at MOA near Macy's on the third floor serving "modern" (read this ain't chi chi's) Mexican Food. Stopped in for lunch on a week day with a pal so had the place to myself. They've got a pretty big (and a bit confusing) menu with tacos, enchiladas and more. Within a couple of minutes of getting seated in a booth, a bowl of light and crispy tortilla chips arrived along with two delicious salsas (mild and less mild), both with great fresh flavors. I ordered the special chicken enchilada which had a tangy vinaigrette sauce and crispy and colorful tortilla strips. It came with rice and sautéed zucchini. While there was only one enchiladas, so not a lot of food for the money, the flavor and quality was first rate. My friend has the carnitas tacos (an order was two small tacos) and it came with rice and classic retried beans. Again, not a ton of food but really tasty. Service was quick and very friendly. Our server was great and we appreciated the quick service since we had a flight to catch right after lunch. The food was just mediocre. Everything on the menu sounded delicious but once we tasted our various dishes (fish tacos, enchiladas, mango and chicken salad, etc) everything was just okay and a let down compared to the descriptions and presentation. The one standout was the fresh guacamole that was made table side. The guacamole was amazing! Perfectly seasoned with the right amount of salt and acidity and chunky just the way I like it. I had a not-so-great experience the first time I went to CL. I wrote my review and as promised, I went back to give it another shot. We were seated promptly and our server came to bring water and take our drink orders. I asked her what she thought of the casa-Rita and she said she had never tried it but 'people like it'. I ordered it frozen, no salt. It came on the rocks with salt. She was gracious enough to take it back and bring the right order out. For food: I had the rellenos de camarones & my friend had the Veracruz enchiladas. The guacamole was made table side with out choice of ingredients. It was fresh and tasty. My food was delectable. It was creamy, flavorful, a hint of spice, fresh, and oh so good! I really can't hate on cantina Laredo when it comes to their food! The enchiladas Veracruz were very good but my dish was far superior! I didn't get dessert this time because I was stuffed but I'll be going back to try the Mexican apple pie, flan or Mexican brownie. I came here for dinner on a weekend - we had reservations and sat on the "patio." It was actually more private than I expected it to be. I had two kids in tow and the place was generally kid friendly. The chips/salsa were excellent - we ran out and I wasn't sure if it was meant to be an unlimited kind of thing? My two year old wanted more at least. I ordered the chicken and steak fajitas. Served on a hot plate, it didn't disappoint for freshness or quantity. It was a little salty but otherwise flavored well. The tortillas were warmed with some oil in the pan it seemed which made them kind of floppy and they tasted greasy? Other than the tortillas the rest of the food was great.
