We went to Cantina 76 on a Saturday night... parking was a breeze; they have a private lot in the back. The hostess told us 30-45 minute wait for a table so we decided to grab a drink and wait. We got two chairs at the bar just as someone was leaving. The bartender was polite and quick to mix up our concoctions, 4.0 stars. We were talking to another patron that was closing out his bar tab... he was told 45-60 minute wait and it ended up being about 2 minutes... he indicated maybe it was just the restaurant working out the kinks. Low and behold, before we had both of our margaritas in hand, our table was ready; it couldn't have even been 10 minutes. Setting expectations, 1.0 star... exceeding our expectations, 4.0 stars. They made a decent margarita, 3.5 stars. On to the atmosphere and food... The atmosphere is lacking; although they have full service, it seems cafeteria like and it was incredibly noisy. Atmosphere - 1.5 stars. Our server was prompt to bring water over and ask if we wanted to start with an appetizer... she was friendly and attentive; 3.5 stars. We started with the Tres Hombres sampler which basically gives you Salsa, Gauc, and Queso along with some fresh chips... The Salsa and the Queso were really good but the Gauc was just average; I'd give the Tres Hombres 3.5 stars. Dinner selections are mostly about the tacos with only a couple other Mexican dishes but they do have a large selection of unique tacos to choose from. For non-taco options, again the menu wasn't really about that, they have enchiladas, a chimichanga, and quesadillas. I chose three of the tacos: the traditional (beef, cheese, lettuce, and tomato), a pulled pork taco, and a jalapeno shrimp taco... surprisingly, the traditional was my favorite... the others were good but I wouldn't say fantastic. I'd give the tacos a solid 3.0 stars but there are numerous places in MtP and Charleston that have better. And then there's the price... taco prices range from $3.00 to $4.50 which is pretty cheap so I guess you have to consider that too... All in all, I'd give them a solid 3.0 stars. read more

I've got to give it a just OK. We've tried it three times now and unfortunately, this will most likely be the last. We did carry out this time. The women took our order and was super friendly. We sat down to have a margarita while we waited. Three sips later, the drink was done (lots of ice in a small glass) and we waited another 20 minutes. Ends up, the women working the front punched out and our food sat up there getting cold (ugh). Got it home and of my four pieces of quesadilla - one was completely void of any meat or veggies (just the tortilla) and the other three were sparse at best. I really wanted to like this place since they are fairly new and Freshfields needed more restaurants. However, I was not at all impressed with the food. For around $3 they give you a beef taco that taste like you could of made it at home. I ordered the tacos on corn tortillas and they were so over cooked it was chewy and hard. It was very hard to eat but after waiting 30 mins for our food I was too hungry to send them back. The rice I ordered was also so bland and it tasted like they just put some soy sauce in and called it Mexican rice. All the tacos that my family ordered tasted okay they only thing that had any taste to it was the brisket taco. I left very disappointed and unsatisfied. My husband and I stayed in a beautiful AirBnB for our babymoon that was within walking distance to Cantina 76 and we ate here twice while visiting Charleston for a week. As a pregnant lady I was really craving guacamole and queso both of those items here are absolutely delicious. Honestly it is some of the freshest guacamole I've ever had. This place isn't "fancy" but has some delicious food, I promise you! I personally loved the shrimp tacos and the surf n' turf tacos. My husband had some type of bbq tacos I believe (I wasn't really paying attention to his food as I was VERY intent on eating my meal LOL) and he raves about them as well. Don't pass this place up for a casual lunch and/or dinner. Oh I should also note that the food is incredibly affordable. I believe each taco was around $3-$4 or so. I can't believe this place isn't more popular than it is. Cantina 76 has crazy good flavor combinations on their tacos. What I love about this place is that the menu isn't huge- it's focused and everything on it is killer. The Peruvian shrimp taco is my favorite- crunchy and a little sweet. Their taco salad is also noteworthy. For margaritas- the Texas is my go-to. It has a hint of orange. A lot of my friends enjoy the The Cantina margarita because it is more low calorie. Cantina 76 has good food for a decent price. Most of the tacos and such are a la carte. Very good drinks, pretty solid service. If you love spicy salsa, their's is fantastic. My girlfriends and I love to stop in for a quick bite every once in a while since it's in a good location to meet people in.
