    Lilac display garden

September update: Still so many beautiful flowers in bloom. We enjoyed hearing Jeff Reiter the now retired Communications Director talk about his book "Words On Birds". There was also live musical entertainment in the garden.

A garden scene featuring yellow flowers, leafless and leafy trees, and a bright blue sky, likely in spring.

I have been to Cantigny many times over the years and have never been disappointed. We visited during the Tulip Sip and Stroll. There is not an admission fee, but parking was $16. It is less expensive during the week. The tulips were in full bloom and gorgeous. There were many opportunities for photo ops. The grounds are well maintained . The museum is a great place to indulge in history and when done , visit the tanks located on the outside grounds. We do not come here often enough to enjoy the grounds.

If you pre register your parking online, Wednesday's are free admission. A beautiful way to spend the day.

    Christmas lights 2024

We went here for the Christmas light display the day after Christmas and enjoyed that it was not terribly crowded despite the unseasonably warm weather. The lights were pretty and the mansion was nicely decorated as well. The lighted trail is fairly short, but really has some nice features, There were a lot of places to buy food and beverages; while we didn't partake in any, the prices seemed reasonable. The ice skating rink seemed to be included if people brought their own skates. We are keeping this light display on the list for future years!

We just went to the Red Oaks farm table last night. It was held outside at 6p. There was about 75 people at a single long table. Was a 5 course with wine and cocktail. They have these events once a month and this was the last of the year ans was" smoke" theme. Great night-time setting. Champagne pre dinner. The best of the courses was the smoked salmon and the short rib. Was a fun event. Plenty of wine and food. All of the paired wines were delicious. The staff was super efficient and friendly. All dishes and wines were described as theycome out. Would be worth checking out again.

Recently had my daughter's Sweet 16 photos taken and was blown away at how beautiful and clean this park was! It's HUGE! Very great spot for photos and also just for a nice summer/fall day with the family. Can't wait to go back for their fall festival!

Beautiful park. Great Christmas music. Fascinating art. Delicious food. Lots of fire pits and warming stations.

This place is absolutely stunning! Everywhere you look there is a beautiful view. There are so many gorgeous spots to walk around, sit, have a picnic at, etc. The grounds are very well maintained. The staff does a fantastic job of keeping the entire park clean and looking breathtaking. There are multiple gardens within this park that have different types of plants, flowers, herbs and veggies. These are to look at only. There are signs everywhere to say to not pick them or eat them. There are also tanks within the park as this is a park that was founded by a military vet. Lots of history and information here. It took about an a hour and 30 mins to walk around the entire park however I can see myself spending a full day here. It's so tranquil and beautiful. Tip - go during the week if you're able to. Parking is $5 during the week and gets up to $30 by Sunday. Oh! They are also dog friendly as long as you keep your fur baby on its leash =)

    Beatles tribute band. Fun!

My first time to Cantigny Park. It's a huge facility, immaculately clean! We attended a concert by Modern English, a Beatles tribute band. Seating on the grass, bring your own blankets and lawn chairs! It's a very sunny field, with shade around the periphery. As a result, we were kind of far from the band, but the acoustics were good-we were able to enjoy the music. My only negative comments are about the traffic backlog at the entrance, and lack of parking assistance-send the cars to the overflow lot on entry if the main lot is already full! On the whole, it was a lovely way to spend a Sunday afternoon!

I love this place. It's like $5 per car until May on weekdays and weekends. Then from May to Oct, it's $15 per car on weekends. The First Division Museum is very educational and kids will find it fun because they created it so that it's more interactive. A lot of photo opportunities. Robert McCormick is worth checking out but it's temporarily closed. Be on the lookout for when it reopens. If you go during the spring/summer/fall, you can get pictures with the flower gardens and sometimes they'll do special exhibits. Plenty of parking available. Make sure you check out the tanks. They do have a place to eat but I haven't tried.

She was an indispensable part of wedding planning for us. I interviewed with a few wedding planners, but Maria was the most personable and helpful among those that I met. She was enthusiastic and even offered free advice at the consultation before I even hired her! For the most part, I planned my wedding remotely. We got married in Chicago but by the time most of the planning was happening we had moved out of state. Maria found the best vendors for us and was able to maximize our visits to Chicago. She wrote thorough and timely emails in response to my (admittedly neurotic) queries. She also knows a TON of people in the business. She found out that our caterer WENT OUT OF BUSINESS almost a full month before the caterer sent a notification to clients. She called us, explained the situation and already had plans of how to fix everything to make our day perfect. We turned a disaster into a minor inconvenience. A few days before the wedding, we moved the location of the ceremony due to rain. Maria handled ALL of the communication with vendors, reconfigured the schedule of events and handled the new last minute decorations. It was seamless and NOT stressful at all. That's not something many brides can say during the wedding week. On the day of my event, I felt like Maria was everywhere at once. It was amazing! She had previously mentioned (in passing) that she had another wedding that day - and you would have never known. Everything went smoothly (and if it didn't, I never heard about it!) If I ever plan another event in the Chicago area, I will reach out to Maria. She was a pleasure to work with and I am glad that her business seems to be doing so well.

While the MAC hosts a wide range of cultural programming year-round, what has drawn us back time and again, now three times, are their exceptional, large-scale art exhibitions, presented every two years. The most recent of these is the 2025 exhibition Hokusai and Ukiyo-e: The Floating World (on view from May 31 to September 21). This immersive experience transports visitors to the lively and refined world of 17th-century Edo-period Japan. The exhibit vividly captures a time when Edo (present-day Tokyo) thrived as the cultural and economic heart of the nation, defined by its devotion to the arts, nature, and the pleasures of daily life. A highlight of the exhibition is the U.S. debut of the Museum Galleries - Chiossone Collection, featuring a remarkable 70-piece selection of ukiyo-e masterpieces. Among these are 53 original paintings and woodblock prints by renowned artists such as Hokusai and Hiroshige, alongside 17 beautifully crafted objects. Together, they offer a captivating window into Japan's "floating world." The MAC consistently excels in delivering these world-class exhibitions. The experience is not only visually stunning but also engaging and educational. The staff are welcoming, knowledgeable, and always ready to enhance your visit. Last, but not the least, there is a very nice gift shop there. We bought some cute Japanese noodles and rice bowls with the "floating world" art theme from the gift shop. I booked them a mere 10 weeks prior to my wedding and their event coordinator was very accommodating. We had about 30 guests attend and the Grill Room and attached dining area was just the right size for us. Since we were a smaller group as far as weddings go, many other local venues didn't want our business or didn't want to give us a Saturday date. Glendale Lakes, however, not only gave us Saturday - they gave us fantastic service as well. We held the ceremony in the Grill Room, then moved everyone to the dining area (separated by a wall from the ceremony room), while the DJ and dance floor people set up in the ceremony room. Once everything was set up, the wall between the two rooms was removed and it became one large room. The transition was seamless and did not detract from dinner. The rooms were beautiful (no hideous casino carpet here) and reasonably priced. We had considered similar venues that were 2 or 3 times the cost and decided we'd rather pocket the cash and save by having our wedding here instead! The mantle over the fireplace in the Grill Room was breathtaking once decorated with flowers and candles. It made a gorgeous backdrop to the photos of my groom and I seeing each other for the first time that evening. If you're considering having your wedding here, visit the rooms when they are set up for a wedding - they "show" so much better when they are decorated. The dinner food was AMAZING. I usually hate wedding food and grab some takeout afterwards, but this place delivered! We offered our guests the filet (steak), garlic chicken, and salmon. We heard rave reviews on all 3 dishes, and I personally ate as much garlic chicken as my corseted dress would allow me to pack in! They have a patio area out back that was just gorgeous for photos. We were there during sunset, and the sky was lit up pink and blue behind us in many of our pictures. Just a few things were disappointing: The venue has a few party rooms, and the one next to us was LOUD. My dinner was accompanied by blaring music leaking through the wall. They could use better soundproofing between their rooms. During my dad's toast, all some of us could hear was the polka beat from next door. Glendale Lakes gets points for trying to quiet the other party down a bit during our dinner, but they weren't successful. And my other complaint is that they only served the chocolate part of my cake! During the cake cutting, my husband and I cut a chunk out of the vanilla center, but in the kitchen they only cut up and served the chocolate part. When I complained, they apologized and told us they didn't know there were different flavors. That's a hard sell with me - my husband and I had already cut a chunk out of the middle layer, revealing the vanilla inside. How do they miss that? I specifically ordered a two-flavor cake to cater to people who prefer one flavor or another, so I was disappointed to see chocolate getting served exclusively. Overall, Glendale Lakes is great for small groups (and for big groups, too, by the looks of the party next door to ours). My wedding was beautiful and I'm thrilled they came through for us.

One girl's name was Haley and unfortunately I did not get the other girls name. They were there from the very beginning to help us decorate the room. They stayed close by throughout the duration of the party and helped clean up at the end. The food was delicious. They have a rule that they only are able to keep the buffet food out for two hours to ensure quality. I requested it be served at 11:30 but not all of our guests had arrived yet, so they took the initiative to delay serving it until more people had arrived. Fantastic. When it was being served it was hot and delicious. We chose the Salad, Salisbury steak, chicken dumplings, mac and cheese, buttery corn nibblets, dinner rolls and apple crumb cake to be served. I also had two guests that needed to eat gluten free due to food allergies and (with prior notification) the chef had accommodated them wonderfully. The girls also came around frequently offering refills on pepsi products, juices, or water. Lunch was a hit. Unfortunately they did not allow us to box up the remainder buffet food to send home with the guests as it is against their policy. Perhaps, in future they can draft up a waiver that allows the guests to take the food but not hold the hall responsible in case someone gets sick. The atmosphere in the big hall (i believe it's called the fonte room) is much more pleasing than the smaller hall. The smaller one is long and narrow and completely carpeted. It lacks natural light but, does have a very charming faux fire place and mantle which serves as a great photo opt spot. The bigger hall is beautifully lit with natural light and has a beautiful damask wallpaper design on one wall. It's also half carpet and half wood which serves as a great dance floor. Another great party at a great venue. On top of having great prices we even got a discount for being returning customers. Thanks Glendale Lakes!

They do a great job with making sure the path is cleared and there are places you can step off of it so you're out of the way if you want to take pictures or just want to be by an installation for a while. You can't get lost, they have signs and people posted to help make sure foot traffic keeps moving in one direction. I think the cost is fair, if you're a member it's a bit cheaper, but we are not.
