    Giant hamster balls
    Misty S.

The DuPage County Fair comes once a year and I go to eat food I only have just as often. The giant turkey legs make me feel like Fred Flintstones and the funnel cakes put me in a hyperglycemic state. I also discover new things, like the giant hamster ball "ride". For $5, you can test your need for oxygen by climbing into a plastic enclosure, get zipped up, and roll around in a kiddie pool. If that's not fun, I'm not sure what is. ADMISSION: Children (0-2): FREE Children (3-12): $3.00 Adults: $10.00 5-Day Season Pass: $30.00 Seniors (62 yrs & older): Admission FREE 8am-3pm (Wed, Thurs, & Fri only) Ten buckaroos seem steep for just going to the fair, but I do enjoy the farm animal area. You don't see those at the regular carnivals. They have goats, sheep, pigs, birds, bunnies, and cows. The biggest bunny I have ever laid eyes on was at this fair. My friend also enjoyed pointing out all the animals that were pooping. Fun Fact: Some bunnies spray pee! It's best to keep your mouth shut during viewing. There are also hand sanitizer stations nearby after you're done petting all the cute animals. CONCERT: Danny Gokey (for you American Idol fans) was playing Wednesday night. It's an extra $10 to see him, but I could hear him perfectly fine standing by the entrance overlooking the field. FOOD: Gyro...........................$7.00 Turkey Leg.....................$7.00 Funnel Cake with 2 toppings....$7.00 Elephant Ear...................$4.00 Corn Dog.......................$5.00 Sweet Corn.....................$3.00 Typical fair food prices. Most places also take credit card. PARKING: Free! Plenty of space in the parking deck if the lawn area is filled. ACTIVITIES: Duck Racing AG MagicShow Blacksmithing Wildlife Display Camel Rides Pony Rides Petting Zoo Sheep Shearing Spinning & Weaving Corn-Grinding Wood Carvers Hit n' Miss Engines Small Engines Pedal Tractors Antique Tractors Rope-Making Forest Preserve Dairy display with calves Milking Demonstrations Milk a "life-like" cow Orchid Society Pet a fish & try casting Corn-Shelling

This was a super TREAT!!!!!!!! It was like a HUGE thrift store! Flea market OUTSIDE!!! All kinds of food, dolls, antique EVERYTHING!!!! I tried capturing as much as I could! So many people! Lots of vendors! Lots of treats! Anything and everything was in these fair grounds. They have it twice a year! It will happen again in October! It's the "Haunted Flea Market"! Plan to come out and enjoy! Bring cash, and credit!

First off, let me say that the 5 stars is not because this is a wonderful, clean, wholesome happy family experience in an idyllic setting. No, it's 5 stars for people watching. The men with mullets and cut-off jean shorts. The women with huge teased blond hair and Harley shirts. The kids throwing up after riding the barf-o-wheel or some other fair ride. The guys who wish they were cowboy, coming in dressed to the nines with their bolo ties, hats, boots, and requisite cowboy shirt. It's 5 stars for all the totally-not-wholesome fair food that is way overpriced, but worth going to the fair just for it. Giant turkey drumsticks; the Marines' corn on the cob with artificial butter slime, gyros, elephant ears, funnel cakes with fudge, foot-long corn dogs slathered in mustard and catsup, lemon shake-ups, and cotton candy, among other greasy / sugary favorites. 5 stars for riding all the overpriced rides till you throw up all your overpriced food on the kid next to you. Hooray for the ferris wheel and all those things that spin you till you can't walk in a straight line. And gotta love that ride where you sit on a bench that goes straight up and then drops you 4 stories! (actually I don't love that ride, and I'll never go on it) 5 stars for the special events: the Demolition Derby, the concerts, the light shows (not so much the rodeo because I don't like how they have to squeeze the poor bulls and horses in their important boy parts to get them to buck, but I dunno if they even still have a rodeo anyhow). 5 stars for the animals: the rabbits (don't pet the un-neutered male bunnies - they spray pee, and I won't tell you how i found that out), the sheep and goats, the cows, the horses, the birds, and my favorite, the pigs. And 5 stars for the main tent area with all the vendors and events, and the free 3 minute massages from the chiropractors, the amusing karate demonstrations, and the guys showing how their vacuum sealer that doubles as a kitchen knife and fish-gutter operates. So, if you're looking for a super-special way to impress family and friends, this probably isn't it, but it does give you a fun way to spend a couple of summer days in a home-town America setting. It's a good time spent doing a whole lotta nothing, but having a great time doing it. (PS, I know this review is full of phrases masquerading as sentences, but with no verbs. It's all good. I do know how to make a sentence. I just liked it better this way. :0) (Extra P.S. - Fair people, please get rid of that pony mill. It's really awful. Those ponies looked bored to the point of neurosis...)

Mo's review nails it...but going this past summer, I was a bit sad to see how much smaller the fair looked. I don't think that is my imagination of yesteryears past fading, but that we really just don't have as many farmers in DuPage any more. The people who come out with their animals have to come to from further away. In my opinion, its events like this that I want to see stick around town. I like the baby animals! I like the animals from exotic locations (my mothers says, no, I'm not allowed to have a baby camel, no matter how cute I think they are!) I like to see the people who have put in exhibitions and I want to be in on it next year...I've been playing since July!!

We got an online discount so buying online isn't always a ripoff. I wasn't crazy about the lack of info for the shuttle service. We took the Metra in and read that shuttles came there, but we go off the train and foolishly crossed over, looking for a bus or a sign. After 10 min we got an Uber, THEN realized where the shuttles were; next time they should post signs on where to look for the shuttle. It was great when we arrived, you gotta go to Just North of Memphis for ribs and PEACH BREAD PUDDING. The mac n cheese was ok, so-so, but I never heard of peach bread pudding, it was to LIVE for! They cleared the park around 6 when no lightning was present, and we stood in the HOT gym across the street. Luckily Melissa had barely started, and we were able to stand outside as nothing major happened yet. We went back in, ate more and missed most of Melissa, then around 8 or so it really was lightning and about to rain, and we just managed to hear the Stray Cats do their #1 song 'Stray Cat Strut'. By 9 the whole thing was cancelled, and we sought out the shuttle buses as the rain started. I may go again next year in a car.

I came here for the first time on July 6th and had such a fun time! The weather was actually not…read morescorching hot for once, so I was able to fully enjoy what Ribfest had to offer without melting away in the heat. Parking: While there are many paid parking options, there is free parking out there if you don't mind a walk! Considering the fact that I was there for the food, I didn't mind walking it off. Saves me the cash! Tickets: Don't buy tickets online. I knew people who bought online and paid way too much. Because this Ribfest had quite a few event cancellations due to weather, they slashed ticket prices HARD. My boyfriend and I paid $10 for the two of us. Much better than paying $30+ per person! Buy tickets at the door for sure. Food: Omg the ribs were amazing. I highly recommend Texas Outlaw, which was hands-down the best rib offering around. They also made an awesome mac and cheese! I also tried ribs from Johnson's and Memphis but they were nowhere near as good. My only complaint about the ribs is that you are blindly purchasing them. I wish they would put together a little guide about the different restaurants there to help people decide which ribs to try. Since it's pretty easy to get overwhelmed with food and spending here, I recommend ordering the smallest amount of ribs from a booth and splitting that with a buddy. You'll cover more ground this way and will be able to try out more of the rib options without feeling like death. There's plenty of additional food out there aside from ribs. Dippin' dots were a refreshing sweet treat! Bands: I didn't really care about any of the entertainment--I was just there for the ribs. With that being said, the band offered nice background music. No complaints here. Seating: While eating, it's nice to get a seat. They offer lots of communal seating under a tent right next to where the band plays. Getting a seat was not an issue for me at any point. However, people do bring lawn chairs to just plop down anywhere. I think that's a good idea for sure. Sponsors: There are several alleys of sponsors set up at booths. Northwestern had a life-sized Operation game which was a ton of fun, and Arthur Murray dance studio gave out postcards for a free dance lesson. There were quite a few other fun freebies--including the BRILLIANT person who was giving away water, which saved me some cash instead of having me buy it at the food tents--but beware of all the weird home improvement tents. Those people were super pushy and epitomize a hard sell. FYI--Interestingly, I also randomly saw Gov Bruce Rauner here. He told me to enjoy the ribs, which I did, lol. Entertainment: There are lots of carnival rides for which you can purchase tickets, but I think they are a waste of money. There is an entire section of family-friendly and FREE activities to do. This includes a petting zoo, magic show, and plenty more fun giveaways. All in all, I had a wonderful time and am so glad that I went! I'm looking forward to doing it again sometime. This is a perfect summer event and the best summer festival in the 'burbs.

Lombard Taste, you know what I'm talking about. I would say this is your average, run-of-the-mill, get what you pay for (it was free) local festival. For being a "Taste" there wasn't all that much being offered from local vendors. There were maybe 4 vendors with local treats like Tap House Grill, Chicks 'n Salsa, Chicago Prime Meat Market and a pizza joint. The rest of the food was your "eat with caution, likely to induce some serious commode time" typical carni-culprits like gyros and meat on a stick. Who doesn't love deep fried snickers that are advertised as "tastes like warm fudge"? ughhhhh. The arts and crafts were a sight for sore eyes. Actually, eyes that hurt really, really bad. They did have a climbing wall that seemed to be quite a hit with the youngsters. And I totally would have scaled that thing if not for the fear of ripping my pants open in front of the school-aged innocent. The free concerts on Saturday night made up for what could have been a bust of a weekend. Tin Horse, a country chick's band, and The New Invaders, a 60's cover band, kept us highly entertained throughout the cold night. Part of that might have had to do with the beer tent and those little $5 red tickets. My advice to next years Taste Committee - pick it up a notch, think about what people actually want to see/do at a festival, not just what's always been done. Promote local biz but do it in a modern way that will make people want to come back next year.

You guessed it - not many. Maybe none. I'll go with none. That most of these cheesy "French" things are ridiculously overpriced is another problem. Bad enough to wear something that screams PARIS, but to be swindled at 2000% profit, is not my idea of a good time. But I must be somewhat alone, as people were grabbing anything and everything they could buy with a PARIS logo. To each his own. Now, my 4 stars go to those vendors who are selling true art, gorgeous jewelry and home decor that actually was made in France, and isn't so ungodly overpriced. There's a few such booths that are worth following them around to other markets such as Randolph Street market on August 29-30 and/or the Wheaton market on any given summer weekend. I purchased 25 tickets ($1 = 1 ticket) and was able to get veggie kebabs, a lemonade, water and a smoothie, which was PLENTY after all of the sampling we did. There were plenty of vegan options as well, not just vegetarian! We spent about 3 hours here, 45 minutes of that was spent listening to a lecture which was very informative. I loved all of the guest speaker options, live music, children's area, yoga and meditation tents. I purchased some chili oil, veggie snacks and dip on my way out (all pre sampled) and in all, I spent $68 and my tummy was happy, whereas I typically would spend $200 at Vegandale pre alcohol purchases, and I would have spent 4 hours in lines being miserable. No alcohol here, but I preferred the chill vibes and appreciated the ample parking, seating, and quick lines. All of the Veggie Fest staff was friendly and helpful and the vendors were SO KIND. Highly recommend if you're getting tired of the hot mess that Vegandale has become.
