Veggie Fest was a fun and well organized event. They needed more signs on the road to point to the actual parking area because I didn't know where to enter (should go in via Warrenville Rd, not Naperville Rd). Once in the parking lot area, they had people directing traffic and it was easy to park and walk into the fest. The first section included vendors that were providing free samples. People lined up to wait for their turn to taste the offerings. In the middle is a large area with live music, seating and tons of food vendors ready to sell plant based food. I enjoyed the beyond burger and vegan ham and cheese sandwich. There was a family fun section with activities, but I didn't have time to explore that area. ....| \ _ , , , - - , , _ , .../ , ` . - ' ` ' . _ \ - ; ; ; , _ ..| , a - ) ) _ . ; . Great concept, failed execution. Firstly, don't call it Veggie Fest Chicago, it's not in Chicago. Call it what it is and be done with it. I know people may be coming from other areas to the event and perhaps flying into Chicago to go. However, this is misleading and if they book a Chicago hotel they'll be sorry. Secondly, the parking situation is an event in itself, what a major PITA. Maybe hold the event in Chicago, people can Metra it here or take PT, if they insist on driving there are many garages that can accommodate them. Lastly, and most importantly, get organized. Either let food vendors accept cash or set up more booths for people to buy tickets so the line isn't at least 50 deep. I didn't get to try any of the food here from the vendor's, the lines to purchase tickets and also for the food were insane. Thankfully, there was a booth for water better out of a box being better handing out samples because I was parched. Some of the other vendors of products were pushy and/or condescending while hawking their products. When I feel like I'm being pressured to buy something, I tend to hold onto my wallet tighter, unless it's the deal of the century, there isn't anything that I need to buy now. The positive, and why I might consider going again, the speakers and cooking demos. Acooba Scott is one of them, she's just darling, great demos and just such a warm person. Her website http://www.acooba.com/ recipes and information. I didn't download her ebook, however I'll be doing it. The chickpea tuna salad recipe is so simple and makes a great sandwich. You can also find recipes from some of the other cooking demo participants by tooling around on the Veggie Fest website. This can be a great all around event with some work, but for now, if you attend go for the speakers and demos. Eat before you get there and bring your own beverages so you don't get dehydrated. Otherwise, bring a lot of patience, again, a lot.

I enjoyed the veggie fest so much that I went two days on the same weekend. Really, I had no choice. There were so many items I wanted to try and being one person, could not possibly eat that much in one day-- and still brought food home. The event is free and free parking, too, all good! Getting in to designated parking areas moved pretty well. You do have to buy tickets to use as currency at the food booths, but they had several lines, some cash only, some card only, all moved quickly. Tickets are non refundable, so buy with caution, but are sold in any quantity so going to get a couple more if short is not a big deal. The vegan "chick'n" strips were so yummy, particularly if you're a person who misses the real thing from time to time, but darn good either way. Pro tip: they have dairy and non dairy ice cream. The non-dairy sold out fairly early the first day, so don't be like me and say, "maybe later", cuz later may never come. I missed out. Boo hoo! People were disappointed cuz it was a scorcher on an August weekend. Another pro tip: tho there is a significant area for seating near a stage with GREAT music acts, it does fill up and most of it is not covered, again; it's August. It was sweltering. Grab some grub and then enjoy it while you cool off in a demo tent. And if you're really hot, find a spot in the range of the fan. You will thank me!! I really enjoyed the demos. One of the things I learned was how to make mayo out of aquafaba which is a relatively new concept in the last year or two. The demo with Marla Rose and her husband (Vegan Street) was both fun and informative and not preachy (if that is a concern for you). There really is a lot to taste, experience and learn. If you have a group interested in sampling some of the same items, all the better. That will really save you money and valuable tummy real estate. I think most items were in the realm of $3-$7 just to give you an idea. Were they all winners? Maybe not, but half the fun is experimenting. Vendors of all sorts, from vegan/cruelty free merchandise, food, fashion, vitamins, snacks, etc. abound. If they combined this with the Renaissance Festival, I'd spend all day there!

Something for everyone here at Veggie Fest 2017. Actually located at Benedictine College, 5700 College Rd, Lisle IL. August 12th and 13th from 11:00 am to 8:00 pm each day. Free food seminars, food & drink samples, live music, product demonstrations, kids area and shopping. Most memorable was a masala dosa with 3 sauces(?) and a hot kicker, totally worth the long line!

FREE FESTIVAL ALERT. FREE FESTIVAL ALERT. FREE FESTIVAL ALERT. Music, meditation and sooo many munchies!!! Does it get any better? M'thinks not. This was my second time attending this 100% budget & family friendly festival and it fo sho won't be the last. Everyone is friendly, many of the booths give out free samples, at any point in time there's at least 3 cooking/healthy eating classes going on at the same time. There's a meditation room, a large tent doing lifestyle chats, a kids craft and photo tent and about a million other really fun booths showcasing and sometimes selling books, clothing, honey, olive oil, peanut butter, and cooked food items available once you hit up the ticket sales booth. The OMango booth rocked and everything they offered was free. $0 mango chutney anyone? The frozen yogurt line wrapped around the food area, I regret not saving room for the Caribbean food tent, I got an Indian skewer on naan w/ veggies and paneer and my boo got a really tasty falfel, though the veggie sushi looked delish as well. The fresh juices we good but defo on the pricier side and overall I'd say the festival needed more beverage options as most any booth with a liquid had a line that wrapped around the corner. The festival is the kind of thing you *could* do in an hour and a half if you don't have kids, don't stay for a cooking class and just grab a bite to eat, but we stayed for a half-days worth of festi fun. We partook in a class and a half of cooking and tasting, we checked out every booth, ate ourselves silly and enjoyed The Giving Tree (band) so much that we stayed the entire 2+ set. In fact, they were so good we actually thought about coming back the next day to see them play again. Parking is a total pain, but I guess it was still an improvement over two years ago when you had to park across Diehl and play frogger w/ all the traffic. This year you can park about a half mile away away and get "directed" by way too many working one traffic stop and not working together... but the parking was still free, and there was no shortage of spots once you got to the lot. Next year? No doubt I'll be up in here.

Veggie Fest is by far the best fest. I loved just about every second I was there - well, until medical had to get called in, but I'll get to that. The vendors were plentiful, offering up sample of their biggest hit items and a plethora of coupons. They were knowledgeable and friendly, and always willing to take the time to explain why their product was as fantastic as it is. The food was ridiculous. Tasty. Plentiful. Inexpensive. There was every cuisine imaginable, and prices were more than fair. ((Although I always hate the ticket system - but I get why it's the most effective. I'd be highly annoyed to have to stand in a line 20 people deep while people dig out their pennies and dimes)). I went for a falafel sammie ((for a whopping 4 bucks - or 4 tickets)) and branched out and dried one of the faves, the Indian Dosa. Both - incredible. If I hadn't been so stuffed I probably would have downed a carrot-apple smoothie, plate of Chinese food, and some Jamaican chicken. The entertainment was fantastic! The bands and singers were incredible, playing relaxing and chilled out tunes. The speakers were knowledgeable and shared a variety of information on why vegetarianism is so beneficial. Although I'm only about 90% vegetarian, I was quickly reminded why I made my dietary choice - in fact, it made me want to take the vegetarian challenge again and eliminate the 10% of poultry in my diet. ((And yes, I only eat poultry that is nitrate, hormone, and antibiotic free. Not to mention, if the animals weren't treated well, I want nothing to do with it.)) Due to low blood sugar levels and heat exhaustion, I ended up feeling less than good. Actually, I passed out. ((Awesome huh?? I'm such a baby.)) The medical staff on site was amazing. They stayed with me to ensure I was okay, brought me cold drinks, and did everything they could to ensure I was okay and comfortable. Not knowing what was wrong, they assured me I would be okay - which instantly calmed my nerves. Kudos to the medic team! Parking was a complete clusterf*ck. But what can you expect when hundreds of people fledge to Naperville to enjoy the benefits of Veggie Fest?! I quickly got over it. Conclusion: Awesome 5 star event.

Of course, I went to check out the veggie vendors! You had to get tickets to purchase food, one ticket for one dollar. Things were not ridiculously priced, in my opinion. Most drinks were 2 or 3 tickets, entrees 5. I enjoyed a nice coconut - straight up with a straw (from Fresh Fruit)! I also had some vegetarian indian food which was awesome, it came with my all time favorite, naan (India with love). I tried a basil lime drink which was actually more of a dessert since it was made with ice cream (Cold caffine now). Also tried some seasoned fries from Fries your way. Every thing was really good. There was a food booth that was just sampling and offering to enter to win a meal, I think the name was Mango, I took their menu....but I think I lost it. Sad :( There was an Organic Salad Oasis booth which had a strawberry salad that also looked really good....I was just too full to keep eating. There were booths selling vegan protein powders, Way better snacks...which I probably should have tried. I missed the peanut butter booth somehow...seriously, I don't know how I let that happen. There was a coupon booklet you could get right when you walked in which gave you discounts at booths that day as well as some coupons to use at another time. It would have been better if I had thought to get this on the way in, rather than on the way out. They also had speakers as well as musical entertainment. I would definitely go again!

We had a great time. Parking was quick. Saw two great speakers. Dr. Bearnard and John Salley! We had Buddha Bowls and Coconut water in the coconut! Lines moved quickly. Stayed for almost 4 hours.

I went to Veggie Fest 2015 for the first time this year. It was located on the Lisle campus of Benedictine University, which seems to be a new location for the festival. Parking was in high demand on Saturday. I arrived at the festival before the posted opening at 11 am and ended up in the garage parking lot, which is the farthest campus lot from the festival. The closer lots were already full. The festival grounds were in an open, grassy area at the northeast corner of Maple Ave and College Rd. Although there were tents for those who wished to attend the talks and food demos, there was not much shade elsewhere. A number of vendors offered food samples and I liked the Spicy Cajun Caribbean Chicken & Rice from Caribbean Kitchen in the food court. I also tried the veggie kabobs but was not a big fan. Overall, I think it was an okay experience, especially since admission and parking were free. It was somewhat difficult to find the festival grounds after I parked because there were no signs to follow. And by the time I left the festival at noon (aka, an hour after the festival opened), I couldn't help but notice that the local police had closed off the entrances to the campus and were directing traffic to overflow parking lots.

The drink ticket price seems pretty reasonable, considering it gets you 20 samples. But the cost for a designated driver pass is a little steep in my opinion ($19). What is that $19 for exactly?? The band? Because it didn't include free soda. They did have free boxed water - but that was for everyone, which was nice. There were a few food vendors, which were just okay. It did the job. Our favorite was Nothing Bundt Cakes. For $20, you got 4 small cakes and a zippered cooler case. They give you a lanyard with a punchcard, and a 4 oz (or 3 oz??) sample glass to take home as a keepsake. You go to each tent, pick your beer, and they fill your glass. Most vendors will mark off one of the 20 spots on your card, to keep track, but a few vendors just gave samples to me without marking my card. They have chairs set up in front of the band, so you can relax in between samples. The country singer did a nice job - he had a few folks out there dancing along. There was a large wooden block "Jenga" game set up for people to play in between sampling. The lines to the port-o-pottys weren't bad. Usually just 1 or 2 people in front of you. Just don't forget to lock the door behind you! Too many people were forgetting and having the doors opened on them (myself included...). :-O There was a pretty large selection of local beers and a few classics (Sam Adams, Guinness, etc.). I tend to lean towards wheat ales, but I didn't find any of those. Unfortunately I don't like IPAs, but I'm starting to like stouts, so it was nice to try a few of those. I'm not sure we'll be back next year. It was just something to try out once. I recommend anyone who likes beer to check it out though!

Unfortunately the $80 charge showed up on my boyfriend's credit card and I had also paid the $50 for the groupon. I tried calling extremetix and they were not helpful at all. They basically told me "not our problem, take it up with groupon" and that they would not refund me. Then the weather turned rainy. I checked the website and it said the event would be held rain or shine. After spending $130 on tickets to the wine fest I was determined to go and my boyfriend was working the following night, so Friday was our only option. We drove all the way down to Naperville and parked, only to be turned away at the entrance and told the event was cancelled due to rain. I again looked at the website which said it would keep patrons updated and there was no information on its closure. I told them what happened with the ticketing issue and was told there was no one to help me there. Fast forward to today, we were told we could use Friday tickets for today and they were working on what to do for the people who could not attend today. Last I checked, they made the decision they were not granting refunds and the festival was at capacity. So here I am down $130 for 4 tickets (when I only wanted the two for $50) and I didn't even get to go to the wine festival. Stay far away from this place!!!

And the Mitchell mansion is spectacular. Now, the fest: if you got there early the lines weren't too long. We got there at 5:30 or so and it was good for awhile. It did get quite crowded by roughly 6:45 or so, this was on Friday nite. Huge quantity of vendors. Musical entertainment was an instrumental duo, guitar and violin. But at one point, they were even tackling Pink Floyd, and not too bad at that! They had free water, in box containers, which was new to me. That's what I drank myself as the beer tent had nothing I wanted and I don't drink wine, but my wife does and thats why we came... there were a number of food options if you wanted to soak up the wine. I didn't sample any but there were good smells floating around the tents. My wife tried mightily but did not find any new wines she wanted to buy. Some bottles started at about $14-$15 and most seemed in the low to mid $20's. A good strategy here with the crowd is to immediately line up in another queue and drink the one you just got while waiting in line.

After 10 min we got an Uber, THEN realized where the shuttles were; next time they should post signs on where to look for the shuttle. It was great when we arrived, you gotta go to Just North of Memphis for ribs and PEACH BREAD PUDDING. The mac n cheese was ok, so-so, but I never heard of peach bread pudding, it was to LIVE for! They cleared the park around 6 when no lightning was present, and we stood in the HOT gym across the street. Luckily Melissa had barely started, and we were able to stand outside as nothing major happened yet. We went back in, ate more and missed most of Melissa, then around 8 or so it really was lightning and about to rain, and we just managed to hear the Stray Cats do their #1 song 'Stray Cat Strut'. Parking: While there are many paid parking options, there is free parking out there if you don't mind a walk! Considering the fact that I was there for the food, I didn't mind walking it off. Saves me the cash! Tickets: Don't buy tickets online. I knew people who bought online and paid way too much. Because this Ribfest had quite a few event cancellations due to weather, they slashed ticket prices HARD. My boyfriend and I paid $10 for the two of us. Much better than paying $30+ per person! Buy tickets at the door for sure. Food: Omg the ribs were amazing. I highly recommend Texas Outlaw, which was hands-down the best rib offering around. They also made an awesome mac and cheese! I also tried ribs from Johnson's and Memphis but they were nowhere near as good. My only complaint about the ribs is that you are blindly purchasing them. I wish they would put together a little guide about the different restaurants there to help people decide which ribs to try. Since it's pretty easy to get overwhelmed with food and spending here, I recommend ordering the smallest amount of ribs from a booth and splitting that with a buddy. You'll cover more ground this way and will be able to try out more of the rib options without feeling like death. There's plenty of additional food out there aside from ribs. Dippin' dots were a refreshing sweet treat! Bands: I didn't really care about any of the entertainment--I was just there for the ribs. With that being said, the band offered nice background music. No complaints here. Seating: While eating, it's nice to get a seat. They offer lots of communal seating under a tent right next to where the band plays. Getting a seat was not an issue for me at any point. However, people do bring lawn chairs to just plop down anywhere. I think that's a good idea for sure. Sponsors: There are several alleys of sponsors set up at booths. Northwestern had a life-sized Operation game which was a ton of fun, and Arthur Murray dance studio gave out postcards for a free dance lesson. There were quite a few other fun freebies--including the BRILLIANT person who was giving away water, which saved me some cash instead of having me buy it at the food tents--but beware of all the weird home improvement tents. Those people were super pushy and epitomize a hard sell. FYI--Interestingly, I also randomly saw Gov Bruce Rauner here. He told me to enjoy the ribs, which I did, lol. Entertainment: There are lots of carnival rides for which you can purchase tickets, but I think they are a waste of money. There is an entire section of family-friendly and FREE activities to do. This includes a petting zoo, magic show, and plenty more fun giveaways. All in all, I had a wonderful time and am so glad that I went! I'm looking forward to doing it again sometime. This is a perfect summer event and the best summer festival in the 'burbs.

This annual event is free to the public and takes place at the Bolingbrook Promenade towards the end of May. There's a decent variety of vendors although some are repeats (places serving the same thing) and some are ripoffs. I didn't see any public bathrooms, so we just used Macy's. The food & drink tickets themselves were a GIGANTIC 4" x 8". Who designed these, held the stack of proofs and honestly thought it was a reasonable size?? Bear in mind, a typical "keep this stub" raffle ticket measures 1" x 2", so what they gave people were SIXTEEN TIMES bigger than necessary. There were a handful of non-food vendors, like Ivy Hall (spin the wheel for bonus loyalty points), a 3D printing shop, Bolingbrook Garden Club, and several home remodeling companies. We really appreciated the sensory oasis, which gave our little guy an opportunity to color and relax for a bit. The lumpia (tiny crispy egg rolls, 4 for $4) from Riceby were tasty, as were the onigiri (we got pork belly adobo and beef bulgogi for $7/ea). I settled for mediocre sliders from Star Cinema Grill (2 for $9), no way I was waiting half an hour for Uncle Booker's BBQ or street tacos. A lot of people were confused that vendors were ticket only; naturally, lines to buy tickets stretched two dozen deep. My wife waited 20 minutes for a lobster roll from the Maine Lobster food truck, and it wasn't all that delicious, nor did it come with chips or a side (plus it was $25 fu%!#g dollars!) Beer was disappointing. A Miller Lite was $7 and we assumed we'd be getting 16oz tallboys......nope, 12oz cans. I rarely drink just one beer but at that size and price (coupled with the fact I didn't want to burn up precious tickets) it was a one-and-done brewski for me. * TL;DR * This was an otherwise nice event hampered by long lines, questionable prices and oddly oversized tickets. Don't get me wrong, this is a solid way to kill a few hours on a Saturday in early summer, I just wish food & drink were a little more affordable and the vouchers a little more ergonomic. I also disliked that food and alcohol shared the same tickets, so at some point it came down to "do I spend my last 7 tickets on a shitty beer or an undercooked slider?" Long waits at nearly every vendor discouraged me from trying things I wanted to sample. The tickets were FAR too large to fit into pockets, so unless you brought a backpack you were awkwardly holding onto them the entire time. The live music was nice, though. Unless things change for the better, we might pass on next year's Taste of Bolingbrook.

Decent little festival held at the Bolingbrook promenade. Kinda annoying that you have to get…read moretickets. Cash is king as card charges a convenience fee. (And I heard from a friend that attended later in the day it changed to cash only). I sampled some sliders from Ted's and ice cream nachos from the creamery. The vendors and food are spread out. Bathrooms in decent shape for a crowded event!
