After I had lunch with a friend of mine yesterday, I decided to stop by at this particular store in Van Nuys to check out the store, and if they had what I was looking for. Yes they did! I needed boxing gloves since I take a class, a women's sports bra in black, (was on clearance rack 50% off). Not too shabby. I also needed a folding chair that I can use to sit outside. I found the exact chair in the color that I was looking for. It was $15 NOT/including tax. It even has a cup holder which is a plus. I also needed a Foam Roller for my back. Got that too. Last, but not least, I needed 2 and half pound dumbbells. They had pink and black. I went with the pink color. That's all I needed from this store yesterday. Everything was nicely organized, got a very nice welcome from 2 of their employees, store was clean with decent sized parking lot, and they did have a bathroom. Love Big 5. I never considered leaving a review for Big5, but during my last visit, I was helped by Pedro and it was a completely different experience than the usual. Not to mention, he's personable and FULL of good vibes, while being super professional at the same time. I couldn't be happier with my visit and am compelled to go back just cause of him. We called and with his phone number they were able to look it up and said Yep, we see your jacket. They even knew which color way it was! They said, bring it in and we will remove the security tag, so I drove over there the next day. It took me half an hour and when I arrived the first person I spoke to pulled it up on the computer and said let me get a manager to help me with this. A manager came over and with a not very nice attitude said, I don't see anything under that phone number, you don't have a receipt, I can't help you. I said I just called yesterday and I was told that if I brought it in you could help me they looked it up and saw it under the phone number, is there anyone working today that was here yesterday? And he said no. The store is huge. I said I don't believe you that there is no one working here today that was here yesterday and he said well, its a change over time but there's nobody here that would've spoken to you yesterday. So I said OK well you're a liar and you're power tripping. I was told that you could look it up and the employee who called you over was able to see it on the computer before you got here, that's why he called you for help to remove the tag. He was committed to not helping me. On top of all that, my boss said that's absolutely false information they can absolutely look it up. He has returned things to them before without receipts with just a phone number.

I may have tossed them during my last Spring Clean in 2008.... Realizing this at 10pm, I jumped on the Big 5 website to see if they had any inventory. As luck would have it thy were posting their end-of-the-season clearance and a perfect pair was in stock. I had budgeted $60-$80 for a new pair, so I was surprised and a tad bit skeptical when I saw a perfect pair of Denali brand for just $30. Next day, I drove down, parked in the large lot and entered, being greeted cheerfully as soon as I walked in. I headed back to shoes, found the pair of Denali's on the wall and within a couple of minutes an employee asked how he could help. I noticed he had been assisting other customers and could hear his patient, professional and cheerful demeanor with each one. After asking for the shoe, he quickly popped off to the back and retrieved my size. Perfect fit and the reinforced toe, which my pointy little elf feet require, was as good as the online picture showed. SCORE! After peeking around the clearance racks, I grabbed some sports bras, further discounted another 25% off, a pocket bug spray for hikes and "after bite" as impulse purchases. Made my way back up to the front, to the pleasant young lady who initially greeted me, paid for my items and out the door I went. So nice to have this dependable business located so close. Big5 has been around my whole life and I have always found something needed at a great price and helpful employees. The mountains are calling, but if the lake answers, I'll be back for additional equipment. Cheers! "CC"

I knew fleet feet had a great supply and the ability to measure mama's sore feet. So, mama is a five time cancer survivor and warrior. Unfortunately she had a large mass on her toe which prevented her from being able to walk without a boot, which after months leads to body pain throughout. Her poor foot and ankle always hurt, and swelled up real bad. She had pain throughout her body from the imbalance and reliance on crutches. I didn't think we could find a pair of hokas that would fit, and even better actually heal her feet. Then we came in and met Dan, the kindest most knowledgeable specialist we could have hoped for. He was patient and supportive at every step, through mama's laser measurements- which are amazing and they email them to you if requested. Then he began the work, we tried 4 great recommendations but alas none fit, all too tight around the ankle. But Dan wasn't done, he looked at the measurements and put in an order for a men's size in extra wide trusting it would fit- and if they didn't we could exchange within 30days. Four days later, my mom put on her first pair of shoes that fit in over a year. Im in tears of thanksgiving. To see her walking in a new pair of hokas, with proper balance and arch support. She's so excited and we are forever grateful. Also, they didn't try to sell me the most expensive pair, they had an awesome shoe that was less than what I expected!
