Grit vodka and early bird coffee vodka.
    Amy Lauren S.

Nestled beside Avondale Wine and Cheese, Cannon Distillery is a hidden gem of West Ashley. I learned about them a few years ago when they hosted a brunch and cocktail event. Due to COVID-19, they haven't hosted events lately, but you can still stop in for a tasting and quick tour. When we visited, the employees mentioned they plan to move to a larger facility on James Island in 2021, which will let them host outdoor events once it's safer. I've tried several styles of Cannon Distillery vodka, but my favorite is the Chai Noon flavor and the Barrel Aged Early Bird (coffee vodka). My husband likes the grit vodka, and we bought several bottles to make cocktails at home. You can buy Cannon Distillery's vodkas in local ABC stores, but I recommend buying directly from this distillery if possible. You can see the process, chat with the distillers, and skip the middleman of distributors and retailers.

Very cute distillery in Avondale. Friendly workers and yummy cocktails. The bookcase door is very cool! I've visited twice now, once for a tour and cocktail tasting and once for a special event they were having. The cocktails were perfectly balanced each time. My only wish is that they could be open later but I'm suspecting this is related to laws.

We had a great time when we popped in on Saturday night. The bartender was great and informative. He had his hands full as he was the only person in there making drinks and answering questions about their vodkas. He explained that because they're a distillery, patrons are only allowed to consume a certain amount of alcohol on the premises. We ended up doing the tasting for $4 and we were told we could have 3 additional cocktails each. All cocktails are $4. There's a menu on the wall that shows which type of vodka is used in the drinks. The bartender explained what was in each drink. We tried the Tic Tac, Mule, and Coconut Mocha. The drinks are on the smaller side but the price is reflective of that. My favorite was the coconut mocha and I would spend all available alcohol on it. They make their own ginger beer and the Mule was great too - just a hint of a spicy kick. Manfriend also tried the Tic Tac which he liked. I thought it tasted like orange juice and grapefruit juice mixed together so I wasn't into it. They do tours as well. The decor is awesome and I'm happy to have this addition to Avondale. Hours are Wednesday - Saturday (I think) 1-7pm.

The distillery itself is absolutely gorgeous, with a rustic and charming feel, plenty of parking, and a layout that makes it the perfect place to host an event. Even though all the vendors and some food trucks were unable to make it because of the snow, I still had the chance to enjoy a delicious lobster roll and creamy lobster mac and cheese that were incredible. The flavored moonshine was a real highlight and so much fun to try, and the strawberry lemonade was perfectly refreshing. I loved the cute little photo opp signs and all the fun swag. The staff was friendly and welcoming, making the whole visit a warm and enjoyable experience. Scotty C, this would be the perfect spot to host a Yelp event or any special gathering for that matter! I am already planning to come back for a tour next time. The distillery itself is just stunning and there is so much to explore. Everything from the beautiful setting to the delicious drinks and food, to the friendly staff, makes Firefly Distillery a must-visit destination.

Plenty of parking, there was only one other couple on their way out when we got in the building, you walk in to the gift shop where they have a ton of merchandise. Don't miss the history room on the right, very informative place about the process and how the business started by a family We paid 10 each for the tasting of more than a dozen kinds of vodka, they must have a chemist to come up with so many different flavors, my favorites were the coconut and the peach, they only give you about a quarter of an ounce each My friends bought a bottle of Peach for me and I got another of sweet tea, for those of you that don't know Summerville is the World Capital of Sweet Tea regardless what other southerners will say After the tour we purchase even more stuff in the gift shop Will go back with outoftowners

Hardscoop Distellery has a physical location on Clements Ferry Rd., but their ice cream is sold at liquor stores and Harris Teeter. I recently attended a tasting, where I tried the ice cream and learned more about it- and I've since become a fan and customer. Not only is Hardscoop made locally, but they also use local products. The price is very reasonable for the quality of ingredients as well as the alcohol content. A container of Hardscoop is cheaper than one fancy cocktail, and you can eat the whole container in your pajamas while binge-watching Netflix on the couch, with no judgement. Win win. Hardscoop regularly sells vanilla, chocolate, and coffee ice creams, but also offers seasonal flavors like peach sorbet. I tried each flavor, and the chocolate is hands-down my favorite. These ice creams are 16 proof, except the peach sorbet which is 21 proof. Needless to say, it packs a punch, so keep it away from the kiddos (or the lightweights). I can't wait to try some of the seasonal flavors. Rumor has it there will be a pumpkin spice flavor at the end of September, too.

The whole flight was a good sample. The vodka has an off smell but then finishes very smooth. Don't be afraid of The Carolina reaper as it isn't as spicy as you fear. For example, SoCo has a spicy pepper that is crazy hot. The Jasper'sGin had the strong flavor of juniper as promised. I sensed a bit of ginger and pretended to taste the cinnamon. It's smooth gin that I enjoyed. I did appreciate the Tolerance (aka cinnamon liqueur) but not enough to purchase a bottle for my home. The bourbon tastes like bourbon and the Rye like Rye. In summary, nothing stood out as a 'must have' but everything was enjoyable. It was a good afternoon visit.
