There are a few beer and wine choices and their gin and vodka. I sampled the Abruzzi Rye and immediately added a bottle to my tab. Their bourbon is from the red corn locally grown. My husband is absolutely obsessed with one of their bourbons. He bought several bottles because he knew it would be the last of the barrel. We learned about Highwire through social media and decided to give them a shot while traveling through town. I'm so glad we did! They are the only distillery licensed to use Jimmy Red Corn which was almost extinct before they started to revive it. The use of the corn gives their Bourbon a unique sweet flavour I've never tasted in other Bourbons. We did a tour which ended up being a private tour as others had cancelled. Our tour guide, whose name I unfortunately forgot, was excellent and answered all our questions. He was very engaging in his story telling. Turns out he's a palaeontologist in his day job. What an interesting life to lead! We stayed to enjoy some food and Bourbon (all of which was good). The Ambiance is open and modern, a good place to chill if you're needing an escape. Walking in the space is very open, there is lots of different seating and the staff was awesome and welcoming for us new comers! I enjoyed looking at all the different decor and how they have their 1st barrel on display in a sectioned off room. There is definitely room to hold an event here in a different part of the building. It was pretty cool seeing the distillers sitting right in front of you. When we got there a small tour was being given, and we were able to ask questions ourselves just sitting at the bar. The staff was also knowledgeable which is always a plus. My favorite part though was being able to drink my cocktail from a seasonal holiday mug! Nice touch! Recommend and will be back :) read more

Giving this one 4 stars although that's high in my opinion. Took about 10 minutes once we walked in for someone to come out of the back. We ordered a few samplers and espresso martinis. Martini was probably the worst I ever had, and the whiskey samplers were decent but nothing I loved. I liked the atmosphere, decent amount of seating and a room where they were selling products and tees. Bought a t-shirt which is super soft. Service was very average, not very friendly. This was a great stop! Really appreciated that we were able to make our own tasting flight and the food menu was unique and really reasonably priced. I had my first taste of Revival Bourbon at a friend's house last week. This weekend, my husband and I went downtown to support a couple of local shops. We started at High Wire Distilling. The shop was open and a very nice and knowledgeable gal answered our questions. Tasting wasn't available at this time but I'd already tasted the bourbon, so we bought a bottle of that, along with a small bottle of Revival Rye Whiskey and a small bottle of Southern Amaro Liqueur. I loved this distillery and everyone in it. My friend and I had such a great time here! We each did the tour and the whiskey flight. While the tour is a lot of shorter than I imagined (about 10-15 mins) the guide was able to humor me and answer all of my tipsy questions ("How many bottles of booze can you get from a barrel?!") I ended up picking up a bottle of the 4 grain bourbon after learning so much about the distilling process and trying their cocktails which was delicious as well. Huge fan of this place. We made reservations for a distillery tour. Our tour was very imitate with another group (3 people) and us. We got to learn a lot about High Wire's production and history. Even though we were the last tour of the day and on a festive day (Jimmy Red Corn Day), the tour guide didn't miss a beat and answered our questions without showing any tiredness or such. Hubs got a whiskey flight and I did a traditional for us to share. We enjoyed everything, though the Amaro and Hat Trick gin were my favorites. I love the flora notes of both, particularly the Hat Trick. The Amaro was a digestif done well (so smooth). I appreciated the bourbon a lot, was very much something that was easy and smooth. It did come with a higher price tag. Hubs enjoyed the barrel gin, which mellowed the flora notes of the normal gin. It was a wonderful experience and we both learned a lot. What a find - High Wire Distilling is a World Class distillery right here in Charleston! It's not a large place, so the tour doesn't take all that long, but the taste of their liquor is nothing short of awesome. Tip: Their Hat Trick is cask aged and has a very interesting taste; it's totally worth trying. They're best known for their gin, but even their vodka is exceptional. Most vodka has no flavor, but theirs is corn-made and has a nice, subtle note of sweetness to it. Unquestionably the star of the show here is their "Jimmy Red" bourbon. It's made using a corn that has almost become extinct. After High Wire brought it back from edge, High Wire uses that red-tinted corn to distill exceptional, ultra-premium bourbon; it's liquor that anyone can appreciate. read more

My experience leans more toward a 4.5 star review, but didn't feel like a 4 was appropriate. High Wire has something special going on. Their products are GOOD. We decided to stop in on a whim and are so happy that we did. I tried the Traditional tasting flight: Vodka, Botanical Gin, Rye and Southern Amaro. The bartender offered a taste of the Barrel Rested Gin instead of the Rye because my boyfriend ordered the Whiskey tasting flight that contains the Rye. The vodka was well done. The taste was subtle and could be mixed with a light mixer. It did not need heavy flavor to mask a taste. The Botanical Gin was also well done. The flavor notes were able to shine through at various points of the taste. The Barrel Rested Gin was my favorite. The flavor was so different in a really good way. The color from the barrel was absolutely beautiful. The Southern Amaro was not my favorite because I don't care for licorice, but I appreciated the taste. If you like liqueur, you will enjoy this. I ordered the Iced Irish Coffee after the tasting which was great. I am still tasting the flavors 5 days later. Do yourself a favor and stop in here! read more

Well, this was abundantly awesome! We drove by, feasted our eyes on a kick ass wall mural, then saw a tiny chalkboard written sign which said, "$5 tours." Sold. Kristen, our host, was a true rockstar. She showed four of us around the distillery and her knowledge of the distilling process went above and beyond. It's cool when you actually learn something on a tour, not just nod your head to be polite. After touring the facility, you head back to the bar for sampling. The $5 price includes samples of vodka, rum, bourbon, and two varieties of gin (in that specific order for the palette). We added a special whiskey to the sampling for a very small price. What's more, the alcohol was outstanding. High Wire creates unique flavor profile in their batches. I'm not crazy about rum, but there's didn't focus on sweetness. The bourbon packed a punch, too. I'm a big fan of Highwire not just because of the booze but for who they are. It's tough to dislike a business who's people are so great. This outfit is run by a couple named Scott & Ann who used to own Immaculate Baking Co until they got bought by Pillsbury I think and decided to start a distillery. They're good people who care about making a good product. They can share their story with you much better than I can when you stop by. I've stopped in a handful of times for tastings, tours, or just to say hello. Recently, a friend of mine took a tour while in town and regretfully didn't buy the Highwire hat he wanted. He left town early the next morning so I stopped by, during non-business hours, and Ann welcomed me in to buy a hat so I could send it up to Boston... very nice of them. They take pride in their product and that's why I have a bottle of their Hat Trick Gin in my cabinet right now. I had a great experience at High Wire! Came here for a girls weekend and we did a tour and tasting. We were able to order cocktails prior to the tour so we could walk around with them. The tour was about 20 minutes long and very educational learning about the process of how they distill their alcohol. The guide made the tour fun he had a great personality. After the tour we did the tasting and the bartender walked us through each alcohol. They were all really good! After the tasting was over we all got something from the gift shop.
