You can tell the staff here genuinely enjoy what they do and actually care about teaching people the right way instead of trying to intimidate anyone. The whole process is smooth and easy. Of course safety is taken seriously, which is exactly how it should be, but overall it's very easy to walk in, shoot, and get out without any stress. Their gun rentals are also very reasonable and affordable. Every time I come here it's always a breeze. While he was deciding and waiting for his turn, the clerks behind the firearm counter were speaking very loudly about "day drinking" and hoping to clock out in time for happy hour later that evening. One individual in particular (bald/sparse hair with glasses, someone I had not seen there before) seemed especially vocal about it. Hearing employees openly joke and talk about being intoxicated while working behind a firearm counter immediately raised serious concerns for me. Firearms require a high level of responsibility, awareness, and professionalism, and hearing staff casually discuss drinking while actively assisting customers was alarming. What made it worse was how loud and proud the conversation was. They were laughing and hyping each other up about drinking while customers were standing right in front of them. Whether they were joking or not, it reflects extremely poor judgment and creates a very bad look for a business that sells and handles firearms. It gives the impression that safety and professionalism are not being taken seriously. In an environment where safety should be the absolute priority, hearing employees casually talk and laugh about drinking while surrounded by firearms is incredibly concerning and completely unprofessional.

I get waiting in a queue is designed to establish a first come first served rule. However, when everyone in front of me was picking up, purchasing or looking at various guns taking 15 minutes on average at what point, out of customer service does the manager (who at this point knows what I'm there for) say "hey, let me take care of you real quick". This place is as corporate as corporate can be, but thats ok as long as the customer service and human connection is there. Im sure ammo bros or even big 5 would take a more rational approach. At least have a person dedicated to ammunition purchases! My mistake, i will never go to turners when I just want to make an ammunition purchase. The staff were welcoming and friendly. It sounded like they made special accommodations for myself and some other shooters, by opening up the "tactical" range, since there were no members shooting at that time. That was awesome, because it got me on the range sooner. I also brought with me a new firearm - Canik Mete MC9LS with a new optic. I forgot my regular range bag with my tools; however, the range staff allowed me to use one of their tools to adjust my new optic. I don't know how the targets move on the regular range, but on the tactical range, you can push buttons to automatically set the targets at a specified distance, move the targets manually back and forth, and automatically have the target return. Best of all, the prices were very reasonable. $20 per lane and $0.50 targets - WAAAAAY better than prices in the Bay Area. If I were a resident of the area, I'd definitely become a member. (I overheard one of the staff members informing another customer of the benefits and price.). Top Notch outfit in my opinion.

I attended their intro to handguns class, covering the basics of safety and proper form, and getting in some introductory shooting experience. John, our instructor, was very engaging and great at commanding attention when needed and building up the class's confidence. Afterward, I took them up on their 'newbie' offer of free range time and rental after class. Kevin signed me up for a lane, let me rent a couple of handgun models I researched previously, and critiqued my targets, giving some general feedback and advice. He also pointed me toward a couple other models that are known to be more friendly to left-handed shooters that I can test out in the future. Great place; a little on the older and smaller sides, but staff was extremely friendly, helpful, and attentive. I get the feeling that as I 'shop around' for my go-to range there's a strong chance I will gravitate back here, since these guys are passionate about what they do, and seem to want to inspire that passion in others. Definitely will make it a point to stop by again.

I took the NRA Basic Pistol Course with Cheryl and it was amazing. I had never shot a pistol before…read moreso I was going into this class as a complete beginner. Cheryl was very engaging, funny, and informative. Most of the class consists of a classroom portion where Cheryl will inform you of important and relevant laws to be aware of when it comes to your firearm. You'd think this info would be boring but Cheryl taught the information in such an engaging way that made it easy to retain the info. The last part of the class consists of actually shooting a pistol at a nearby shooting range. My first time shooting a pistol and while it was nerve wracking at first, I felt completely safe with Cheryl! I highly recommend Cheryl and CAS & Sons Protective Group for their basic pistol class. I've already referred it to my friends and family as well! Well worth the price.
