I was interested in learning proper firearms etiquette, and had an opportunity to do so at Evan's Gun World. I attended their intro to handguns class, covering the basics of safety and proper form, and getting in some introductory shooting experience. John, our instructor, was very engaging and great at commanding attention when needed and building up the class's confidence. Afterward, I took them up on their 'newbie' offer of free range time and rental after class. Kevin signed me up for a lane, let me rent a couple of handgun models I researched previously, and critiqued my targets, giving some general feedback and advice. He also pointed me toward a couple other models that are known to be more friendly to left-handed shooters that I can test out in the future. Great place; a little on the older and smaller sides, but staff was extremely friendly, helpful, and attentive. I get the feeling that as I 'shop around' for my go-to range there's a strong chance I will gravitate back here, since these guys are passionate about what they do, and seem to want to inspire that passion in others. I've wanted to hit Evans Gun World for a while after hearing good things from friends, so a buddy and I finally dropped in on a Saturday afternoon. As expected for a weekend, there was a wait, but since we were off for the day, we didn't mind hanging out on the folding chairs in the retail section for 30 minutes. The staff is awesome--super friendly and easy to talk to--and the check-in was painless. While waiting, I noticed their optics prices are actually lower than most other shops in OC. I'll definitely be back when I'm ready to pick up another Holosun. The only real downside is their range rule: you have to reload your magazines at the shooting stall, not the back table. Because the space is tight, I couldn't reload while my friend was shooting. We ended up spending half our time just loading mags, which really cut into our actual trigger time. It's a solid spot and less expensive than other local ranges, so I'd come back alone, but I'll probably skip the "buddy trips" here since the reload rule makes it hard for two people to get their money's worth. read more

Haven't been back to Evan's in over 15 years. Got a range token as a promo from a nearby shop about 5 months back. Had time to visit today. Curtly told token can't be used. Then told rudely that I have to "give it back" because they want to collect them (sure they have a bunch). Repeated again that I can't use it and that I can't keep it. When asked when the promo ended, just got a shoulder shrug from the sales counter guy then instructed the range counter guy to take my token. A lady employee then walked by and said in passing that the promo ended a long time ago, like 4-5 months ago. When I responded that I didn't have the token that long, she told me that the promo ended over half a year ago, and walked off. No expiration date on the token, nor any info about it from the original shop. No apology. No friendly attitude. Just didn't honor their own promotion. No discount or accommodation. Rather, they just forced me to give it to them for nothing. Given that they were barking orders, refusing to give up my token (as they wouldn't honor it) would have resulted in a wasted hour and a half round trip in traffic. Great way to bully customers, and make returning customers feel completely unwelcome. Great way to turn a promotion or chance to earn a member with a little good will into a horrid experience. read more

It's smaller however they have better service, better prices and an amazing staff that is always very friendly and knowledgeable. They have rentals for $20 and after that it's set fee you can come back and rent out a diff pistol. Membership is $299, what a steal! They offer "women only" classes here too. Spectacular gun range! Found this place on yelp as I had some time to kill in OC. It's in a warehouse district and could be hard to find. They have an American flag in the front which makes it's a bit easier to spot. They also have a small parking lot but there was plenty of street parking over the weekend. Super clean, friendly and knowledgeable staff, and great pricing. One lane for just over an hour and two paper targets cost me $21.08 There is also a gun shop portion. I was able to check out and hold a few pistols i'm considering and discuss with the clerk. Will definitely be coming back to Evan's gun world!! read more

The gentleman here know their craft and are very knowledgeable especially when it comes to safety. This is an excellent destination for anyone who wants to get into the sport of shooting or is interested in gun ownership. The guys that run the place were really nice and friendly. They were very knowledgeable and helpful. Although I don't think it's overly advertised expect to pay roughly $20 per person for having access to the range. Like most indoor gun ranges , they have one side, strictly for handguns and another side for rifles, including for shotguns (just no birdshot) . I myself am a gun owner so I bring my own ammunition and guns, but if I'm not mistaken, I believe they do rent guns and you can buy ammunition there. The only drawback I can think of is it felt slightly smaller than some other indoor gun ranges that I've been to. The Range Officers are cool and helpful. They have a good variety of guns for sale and the range is well kept. I suggest to get the yearly membership if you shoot a lot. Love this place. My regular gun range. It's smaller than the other popular gun range in the area, but it's homier and cheaper. Friendly people at the counter. If you're a first time shooter/need to rent a gun, they require you to be able to load and unload the gun before they'll rent you one. You'll also need to bring a friend (pretty standard rule for all gun ranges). The one thing I don't like is that they require magazines to be loaded in the stall. If you're shooting with a friend, there's some downtime involved because you have to wait to load. Safety first I suppose though, and they don't charge you by the hour. read more

Run down. Broken trolleys 2. LOUD: most places have sound deadening materials between booths and the walls. This place has minimal amounts and as a result, their tile walls amplify sounds and it reverberates throughout the range 3. Their pistol range is only 12 yards. In order to shoot farther(25yds), you need to be a member or come on Wednesday night to use their rifle range 4. Parking-it sucks. Their parking lot is laughably small and hard to maneuver so you have to park on the street--inevitably people block your car front and back on the street and you have to do bumper cars to get out. read more

Came here on my birthday to rent different hand guns and shoot some of my own. In order to rent here you have to pass a safe handling test. I was given vague instructions to unload dummy rounds within the handgun and when I checked to see that it was loaded (with one in the chamber) that constituted as a failed test. Chill staff and affordable entry--what more does you need to train? I used to frequent FT3, but it's gotten too expensive lately. Now, Evan's is my regular range to go to. It does get busy sometimes, especially on Wednesdays when both sides of the range are open to the public, so consider calling ahead to check how busy it's going. read more

Customer service is really inferior here. The staff, especially the range safety officer, is really dense. You are guilty before proven innocent. The way they work is really backwards unintelligent. There are much better ranges in the area. The Firing Line in Huntington Beach and FT3 Tactical in Tustin to name a few. read more
