Our 2 yo Australian Shepherd, Sedona, is a sweet, affectionate, and smart little lady. But before her boarded training, she could be very skittish around strangers, especially kids, and was absolutely miserable to walk on a leash. When we first got her, we had dreamt of bringing her to restaurants and breweries, but as she got older, she became more nervous and unpredictable: growling, barking, and hiding behind me when we were out in public. We knew this wasn't going down a good road for her, so I did a lot of research and ended up finding ALS. Jim came over and met Sedona, observed her, and came up with a plan. We were very apprehensive about her going away for a couple months, but we knew other people who'd sent their dogs away for 2 weeks with little to show for it in the long run. Our biggest worry was that she would lose her sparkling, goofy, loving, fun personality and become a robot. Jim and Evan reassured us, and we moved forward. Throughout the process, the communication from ALS about Sedona's progress was flawless, and we felt totally comfortable - although we definitely missed our girl! We are now 6 months out from completing her boarded training course, and we couldn't be happier. Sedona is her spunky, happy, affectionate self, but she has much more confidence when meeting new people. Her recall is 100%; I walk her 3 miles every morning off leash, with my stroller and my other dog on a waist leash. She has been confronted by strangers and dogs walking on the sidewalk, dogs barking from yards with (or without) fences, children waiting for the bus eagerly hoping to pet her - and she doesn't flinch. We have had zero issues, and I never worry about her safety or wonder what she will do; I know. When we are on walks, people constantly comment on how amazing she is that she just stays with me. We are so proud of her and are eternally grateful to ALS. The people at ALS are not only dedicated to helping you and your pet have the best quality of life, but they also genuinely love animals, and I feel that that makes all the difference. We give them the highest recommendation and will pursue boarded training with them for all of our future dogs!

We took their training class which helped a lot but quickly realized we needed more. Jim came to the house and evaluated her in home behavior. After many questions, emails and phone calls, we trusted them to help us with Sophie. She's finishing her training and after our transition sessions we will be one big happy family! Not only have they trained Sophie, they've trained us too. I love that they take pictures daily and I was able to find one of him. I also love that they let the dogs run around ALL DAY. Most places keep the dogs in cages all day unless you pay a premium to have your dog out and about. I also appreciate the option to have him bathed before pickup. On his second visit he ended up with pink eye while he was there. Beyond grateful with how they rose to the occasion. I was immediately notified that his eye didn't look right. They asked if I would like their vet to take a look at him. Same day the vet looked at him, prescribed meds and I was able to seamlessly pay for the service. Upon my arrival back the next day to pick him up they shared with me how to give him his medicine and provided the vets information for follow up. The vet was responsive to my call and extremely helpful. The only not so fun parts is they are old school in booking stays so you can't book stays online and the check in process takes a little bit of time. So give yourself at least 10 minutes to check your dog in if you are boarding him otherwise drop off is quick if the dog is coming for day care only.

Our rescue dog was a complete pain to walk at first, and they worked with us as we went through various collars, harness, and training techniques. The walkers use an app that allows them to scan in and out of your home so you know how long the visit was. It shows you a GPS map of where they walked, and sometimes they send cute photos. Our dog loves all of the walkers, and it is so nice to know that she is so well taken care of while we are at work!

Our dogs were baseline trained before we started going to Custom K9 and now are very well trained with the plus of off leash obedience. Having your dog under control and stable in public and around all types of dogs makes for SO many more opportunities for fun. Now that our dogs are "robot" trained they get to go with us everywhere. They get to run around dog friendly beaches off leash and have the time of their life since we can keep them under control. Our lives and our dogs are happier, less stressful, more adventurous and the biggest one.. safer now that they are reliably trained.

My best friend has used them for over 25 years. Was able to get an appointment within a week. Very understanding about what I needed, letter for new apartment and a rabies shot for Oscar the cat. Had a blanket on a heating pad for Oscar and a very gentle staff that even gave him a treat to calm him down. Could do the exam but not the blood work. Will come back for that with calming medicine. Prices more than fair. Upfront with their pricing. May be a little drive from where I live, but worth it.

The first appointment I said o was sure it was allergies and they ignored me until my 5th appointment, and over $2500 later. they finally put him on allergy medicine and he's so much better. A couple months later I call to get a refill and they say in order to refill his ALLERGY meds he needs a well visit, and that my previous visits were "sick visits" so they don't count. Such a joke!

So disappointed with this place! I've been taking my dog here since I got him, 3 yrs ago. He had…read moresevere gastrointestinal issues every month after starting monthly flea/tick/worm meds. After a year of seeing them every month for vomiting and diarrhea, I discovered that it was caused by one of the meds. Yes...I figured this out when I missed one of the doses, but he got the other. When I gave him the missing dose, the vomiting and diarrhea started. I searched the web and that particular medication was notorious for causing gastrointestinal issues. DePorre put him on another med...which I found was a double dosage with the first med. Unacceptable! Last year, my pup broke out in hives and developed ear infections. After several visits, DePorre couldn't figure it out...nor did they seem concerned. They just kept charging me for ER visits. I took him to Eastpointe Animal Hospital, where they immediately took samples and determined that he had an allergic reaction to something in the environment. This was his first visit and they got it right...at a fraction of the cost! He was on allergy shots for the summer and he didn't have any more reactions. Unfortunately, that doctor retired and i ended back at DePorre earlier this year. My dog had been throwing up and would not eat. I took him to DePorre on the 3rd day. They took blood samples and sent them out to be analyzed. They said it would take 3 days for the results. I'd grown concerned because he hadn't eaten or had anything to drink in 3 days. They gave him some fluid (under his skin) to counter his dehydration and told me to come back if he didn't take in anything by the next day. By the next day my dog was very weak...still not eating or drinking. I took him back to DePorre. They wanted to charge me for an ER visit, which I refused to pay. They took "in house" blood tests (don't know why they didn't take them he day before), which came back inconclusive. The doctor told me that I should take him to the hospital...where I paid an additional $5,700 for them to diagnose him with IBS. The blood tests that DePorre took were insufficient. They didn't check for electrolytes! I'm completely outdone by the insufficiency of DePorre Veterinary Hospital. If you value the life of your animal (and your finances), don't take them here! They will take your money and not think twice about your pet.
