I saw a couple of billboards along highway 35 advertising this place on my drive north to Duluth and was immediately interested, because I have a sweet tooth. In fact, it was on the exact same exit I needed to get off on to head to Jay Cooke State Park, which made the decision all the more easy to pop in and take a gander. Their establishment is up a dirt hill a short ways. Dirt lot for parking, no lines, so just nab wherever works. I appreciated some of the fun decorating they'd done with oversized lollipops and photo ops outdoors. They even have a short "lollipop trail" experience if you need to stretch your legs, which is super cute. Stepping inside, the space isn't huge but nor is it small. There are many aisles of candy to peruse, mostly name brand candies, some more common, some less common, including even a few Japanese candies. Taffy in many flavors. Great for getting Pez refills, randomly. Seasonal candies for autumn; I'm certain they change it up for winter/spring/summer too. There was a very limited selection of packaged chocolate-dipped candies (I ended up getting dark chocolate covered Swedish Fish for my husband), but these have a pretty steep markup. In fact, a lot of the candy here feels a little pricey, and the soda pops even moreso. I only grabbed a few select things and kept my purchase under $20. They very hopefully had both baskets and push carts for you to load up using. There was also a clearance table (no doubt for expiring product for quick sale) and popcorn/flavoring. About ten flavors of fudge, if that's your thing. They had a gender-neutral restroom in the back corner that was clean. Hooray for not pointlessly segregating genders! I would consider this an okay experience overall, but unfortunately I have to deduct major points for the AI-generated flyers. :( It's unacceptable to use for any business size, and I can't support places that utilize generative AI. I want to support local independent businesses, but when they're using gen-AI that harms the environment and profits mega corporations... I have to take my business elsewhere. I did make a small purchase, like I mentioned, because it would've been extremely rude to walk in and walk back out; I only realized when I arrived and saw the advertising up close. I won't be returning unless I can be certain this place has stopped their generative AI usage.
