Best Pizza and Wings in the northwoods! Love the atmosphere. A original since 1967!

What a Northwoods gem! Surly Furious on tap, you can't ask for much else. But we did. Beer and dinner for 5, 4 of which just emerged from a week of canoeing Quetico, and we were starving. The waitress (she is really nice!) said 2 larges would be enough for the 5 of us and she was right - we had almost no leftovers (good thing, we were staying in a motel with no fridge), but it was a stretch (literally) to eat it all. I have to say, for a Northwoods pizza joint the crust was really good. Toppings not half bad either, and they really like to load up your pie with banana peppers. We had a great time. I noticed on the way to the men's room that they have a nice game area for the kids, and it looked well-used. Also liked the free popcorn, though I'm sure it makes lots of people thirsty enough to order another beer. Next year we try the wings!!! read more

We were visiting a family cabin on the lake and stopped by here three times during our visit. Bimbos is located across the street from McCarthy state park so you will see boats and wave runners parked at the dock that come by for a bite to eat. There is plenty of parking and seating inside (inside seating only). There are large tables for bigger groups and a small bar with approximately 10 barstools. While here , we ordered wings, jalapeño poppers, beef dip sandwich, side salad, French fries and the George's special pizza. Everything was average bar good but the pizza was our favorite - it was thin crust and the sausage was really good ! They have a full bar and also have pitchers of draft beer at good prices. Bimbos also features an arcade for the kids and TVs scattered throughout the building . read more

Can you say delicious pizza? This is a family operated pizza and wings joint and has been since my mother was little. Ice cold beer on tap, hot fresh thin pizza cut into squares, wings of different assortments and a big TV for sports. Excellent spot for after-the-lake kinda days where you just wanna relax, have great food and a fun time with family. (They also have a bar for you and your buddies to enjoy the tap.) I recommend this place to anyone on the lake. Locals of course know about it, but I'm sure few of you even use Yelp! :P read more

The first two times we were here we werent very happy but this third time we were hopeful. This time is definitely worth a review. We ordered nachos as a app, never received them and we were originally charged for them. We asked the waitress to take it off the bill. We ordered pasta and our salads came with the meal and not before. Raviolis were good. Alfredo was not homemade which was disappointing. We ordered a pitcher and it was $24!!! Took 45 minutes to receive food. Spendy and poor service. Super sad. Unfortunately we will not be coming a fourth time. Three times and you're out. Horrible service! It took them literally 2 hours to make my burger!! Don't trust this place! Their arcade machines are okay, they get jammed though. They literally had a butter knife laying around to get it out. They gave us the bill before I got my food! So we were charged 10 dollars for something we never got. read more

We had a great experience at Bimbos tonight. I have to admit we went to Riverside first. While we got our drinks pretty quickly at Riverside, the server never came back to take our order. After over 15 min I went to the bar. I asked him nicely, if we could place our order. His response, yea, as soon as everyone else. Even the people at the bar were stunned. While we are not locals, we do have a home up here and visit once a month. I asked the people at the bar if he treated everyone that way and they said yes. The owner (who was his father) overheard what he said and didn't flinch. We paid for our drinks, left and came to Bimbos. The service was great, fast and courteous and the food was great too. My husband and his family have been coming here for decades and I've always heard all of the delicious stories. I also had the "Bimbos" experience the last few years and it's pure awesome. This is a vacation spot. It's casual, it's beer, it's the best chicken wings ever, and it's awesome pizza. Come in flip flops, come in a swim suit, walk there, boat there, whatever. I see that people complain about the wait time--as of July 2018 I'm fairly confident the issue is fixed--they've added additional pizza ovens. If you're vacationing in Side Lake or just passing by, this is the place to be. read more

Enjoyed the Guitar Man live music very much on Sunday! Seriously though: you only make one batch of popcorn a day?! It was empty and the server said that once it's gone that's it.... CRAZY wrong headed business wise because you sell drinks and you want people to linger and order more right? Popcorn is cheap way to make customers happy. And for heavens sake- - you have a spot with great Lake views, but no way for customers to enjoy them or even really see them. Thinking that a screened in porch with a view would more than pay for itself pretty darn quick. Can you say free pop corn? If you are up in the Lake Sturgeon/Hibbing/Chisholm area definitely stop in. This is your classic lakeside restaurant and bar. Kitschy? Yes. Dive? Yes. Great? You betcha. This seems to be a local's favorite, but I'm afraid our experience was just ok. A previous review mentioned pigeon wings. Is that what those were? Really yummy wings, but so very small! Bimbos is an Iron Range institution! Its a family run bar and restaurant that has been in operations for over 50 years. Originally, it was a gathering place for soldiers and sailors to reunite after WWI. Get there early for holiday weekends because it is a local favorite and now they have two ovens so the wait time for Pizza and wings is maybe 20-30 minutes!! Don't leave town without trying the George's Special and hot wings! My personal favorite is a pepperoni and green olives pizza. read more

If there were negative numbers, this place would get it. I've never been treated so rudely in my life. The "waitress" and the owner/manager guy with curly hair were two of the rudest people I've ever met. We came there with about 10 people and promptly left after being told "you city people". My dad introduced us to Bimbo's a few years ago, and I've now eaten here a handful of times. Hands down--the BEST garlic butter chicken wings I have ever had in my life! My dad and I usually get a few baskets and just make a meal out of them. He even got my aunt and uncle from Arizona hooked on them, and they always made sure to stop in for the chicken wings every time they visited. Service can be a bit on the slow side, as others have commented, but life up north is more laid back. The lake across the road is gorgeous, especially in the evenings. Having additional seating outside may help business, but I'm not sure if pest control could be an issue since it is so close to the lake. I've tried other items on the menu, and they've also been pretty good. But again, if you're going to try anything, TRY THE CHICKEN WINGS! read more

Every time were up in side lake to visit the in laws a trip to Bimbos is a must. The pizza and wings is great. Ive never eaten anything else of the menu, because there is no need. I come to Bimbos every chance I get. Since I live in southern California, that is not often enough. I can honestly say that it is the BEST pizza and wings I have ever had. The beer is cold and the welcome is warm. It is one of the highlights of hunting season. The Riordan's and the Edwards' will forever make our trek to the north woods to enjoy the BEST pizza on earth. Incredibly slow, do not visit during dinner hours. We ordered three pizzas and it took 55 minutes to receive them. Our waitress was nice and apologized but that is an unacceptable amount of time to be waiting for a pizza anywhere. Maybe a visit during off hours or ordering take out an hour ahead of when you want to eat would be a better option. I won't be returning. read more
