An absolute must-visit on Washington Street in Sonora!…read more The Local Collective is exactly what its name represents: a place rooted in genuine care for people, families, and the local community. What stands out immediately is how kind and welcoming the owners are. This is truly a family-run shop, and you can feel the intention behind everything they do. They aren't just stocking shelves, they are thoughtfully sourcing items they would confidently choose for their own family and children. That level of care is rare. We bought a hoodie, hat, and t-shirt for my daughter's birthday, and she has been wearing them every single day since. The quality is incredible! I mean really. These are not cheaply made pieces. You can feel the difference right away in the fabric, the fit, and the durability. What makes this place even more special is the heart behind it. It's not just about business. It is about people. They genuinely care about the families who walk through their doors and he went out of his way to offer products that reflect that. They do not jack up the prices but the quality is better than an REI or Sax 5th Avenue. I know good quality and these items are made very well. We also purchased a tumbler for my children, bird house, two stuffed animals, and a few other little things and the quality and make are consistent throughout the store no matter what it is. Having seven children we know good quality items. Unfortunately, it is not an unfamiliar experience to see things break after purchasing. Not here! If you're looking for meaningful, high-quality items and want to support a family that truly puts other families first, this is a place you'll want to keep coming back to and buying from again and again.

Sourdough snickerdoodle cookie, breakfast muffin, and the nice gal threw in a lemon tart. The breakfast muffin was covered with crumble and oats which made my husband anticipate a brown sugar crumble topping like you would put on coffee cake . Except this crumble tasted like breadcrumbs with a few oatmeal pieces sprinkled in. The muffin itself was like a carrot cake with little bits of carrot and raisin visible with just the slightest hint of spice, otherwise, tasteless, although the presentation was very nice . The snickerdoodle cookie had a nice sour flavor but was dry and unappealing. The lemon tart had no lemon flavor. Maybe it was marked wrong? I've heard great reviews about their sourdough. We didn't try it. Unfortunately, I don't think we will be coming back .

From the sign hanging out front, to the decor inside, and even the clothing the staff was wearing, the theme was evident. I hadn't visited Columbia since I was on a field trip in elementary school so when I got the opportunity to visit again, I was all about it. The first thing I needed before exploring was a coffee, because let's be honest, I was hungover. Brown's came to my rescue and put the extra pep in my step that I needed. I ordered a vanilla oatmilk latte and it was creamy and delicious. The gentleman barista of the day was very friendly and answered all the questions I had. One of them being, pecan milk?! I'm a vegetarian so I'm here for the alternative milk options, but that was one I had never heard of before. Pretty cool to see it. I have to imagine if you live in the area you know about this place and have likely been here before, so I'm primarily speaking to those that come from out of town... come visit Brown's. If not for a coffee, than one of their other offerings like ice cream, a baked good, sandwich, or even things like honey to take home with you.
