Discovered this cute little candy shop while on vacation in Destin. Nice place to stop in and get your candy fix. The shop offers all the usual (chocolate, gummies, jelly beans, taffy, fudge) and even some older stuff (candy cigarettes!). There's a window-selection of fresh made sweet treats, which seem to be made in-store. The fudge, truffles and other sweet eats are just too tempting not to try! My favorite is the taffy, fro-yo and chocolate seashells. The taffy was chewy and flavorful, not hard like it had been sitting in the store for ages (which is always my fear when going to small-shop candy places). In fact, two weeks later and I'm still chewing on this fresh taffy - winner! If you're not into all the candy, do yourself a favor and try the salted caramel fro-yo! I am a fro-yo fanatic and their salted caramel is by far one of my favorite flavors I've tasted. What a refreshing, sweet treat to have after sunbathing on the beach all day. Last but certainly not least, snag a bag of chocolate seashells for the road! Similar to chocolate rocks, but the seashells are a nice, SWEET souvenir and the candy coating is delicious. Another bonus is the place has free WiFi, indoor and patio seating and offers a small menu of food items - not too shabby. read more

I've been visiting this place since I was a little girl and it was much smaller. I waited all year to visit the candy maker and watch them make salt water taffy. Now I bring my son when we visit Destin. Great selection of souvenirs ( one of the only places left in Destin). Everyplace else is now selling bikinis, T shirts, boogie boards! Large selection of candy, hand dipped chocolate anything and of course salt water taffy. Since they have built a bigger building they now serve breakfast. It's good and we love to sit on the patio in the morning . You can hear the waves from the beach, see the beach and sit under palm trees. Needless to say this place is part of our vacation every year and we love visiting. read more

Wonderful selection of nostalgic candies and new ones too. Their pralines are killer good. They even have a chocolate version. Also, their dark chocolate covered candied orange rinds are the best I have had. It's a fun place, the decor is welcoming and the staff is kind. Gotta check it out! read more

Friendly service, the OJ was freshly squeezed! The food was great! We visited from Texas, will definitely return when we go back to Destin!

Name says it all! It has it all for candies.... Great selection from Ice cream, chocolate covered whatever you could think of to a ice cream buffet... would recommend it to anyone read more

Poor customer care! We waited for a hour just to get something to drink... We do not recommend y'all eat here!

Rude staff but yummy treats. They have a great variety of candies and confections, plus soft serve ice cream and yogurt. I would give it 5 stars if I wasn't ignored and then spoken to rudely by more than one staff member behind the counter. read more

I was intrigued by this place by their claimed billboard on 98 that they were one of the biggest candy stores in FL. Staff: 5/5 Attentive, friendly, helpful. No lie, the person who handled both visits I made remembered me (mainly because I went into here asking for the most sour candy available) considering that my visits were a month apart, bravo! Location: 4/5. Comes with a lovely view, but also kind of unexpected. You'd drive down, find some hotels/high rises and suddenly this random candy shop pops up! Clean and seemed organized though. Food: 5/5. The items displayed are made there in store, and that is awesome! The first items I tried was a chocolate covered Twinkie. Now, I've had a fried Twinkie before and I thought I was going to have a heart attack after the first bite with it. With the chocolate covered, it was amazing! Soft and the chocolate wasn't too overpowering. I cannot say anything about the attached restaurant/gift shop, but I think it's nice that it's all-in-one. As stated above, I originally went in there looking for super sour candy. Not just a little shock or bite, but sour to the point where you can really feel your face cringe. I was offered two items available, and tried them separately with each visit. The first item I bought (pack of super Warheads) was on point but somehow the sour went away within seconds. The second item (Toxic Waste) got me. This is what I was seeking. Pricing: 5/5. a bit pricey but I can understand, you pay for quality. Only complaint: None so far. read more

I was buying a gift to take home. I, assumed, since they also ship, and most customers are tourists that t they would be able to pack a gift box for my homemade fudge that I was buying. They did not. They did the best with what they had, but I think they should have boxes and paper to pack gifts of the homemade fudge and chocolates that they r known for. On the other hand, I had some frozen yogurt for dessert and it was delicious. read more

My family and I decided to stop in while waiting for our table at the Back Porch. I'm very big on customer service. We walked in and neither of the two employees acknowledged us when we walked in. They were to busy talking amongst themselves. Even when I mentioned that when someone walks into a place of business they should be greeted, they still did not acknowledge us. We politely walked out and decided not to spend our money in that establishment. read more

We love this place. We come every year when we're in the area. Best fudge on the panhandle, in our opinion. It's a great place to pick up a souvenir or old fashioned candies as well. We haven't eaten in the restaurant portion, but we have picked up a couple specialty coffees on our way out and they were fantastic. Highly recommend - try the salted caramel fudge!! read more

Ordered their salt water black walnut and mixed taffy as well as pecan pralines. It is all yummy! Will order again!

Go to the candymaker website in their photo gallery you see images of chocolate covered strawberries like this; http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/candymaker-destin-3#vYODb33Rx_I3CgnvKUPVLg Beautiful right.? Also be shown pictures of these beautifully decorated strawberries by the owner. Now actually go to the store and order some strawberries for a formal dinner and what you end up getting is this; http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/candymaker-destin-3#hlcofnkMNFz1FPkgy60Gbw Notice the bruised & dead leaves, the dead leaf stuck in the chocolate, the bruised-brown stems? How about the fact that the second layer of white chocolate doesn't even come close to covering the first layer. Add to that that none of the strawberries are decorated in anyway. Now talk to the owner that you would like to return them becuase they are unacceptable, only to be told that there is nothing he will do for you. That he will not return them, fix them nor exchange them, that because you left the store you bought them. How is he to know that I didn't open them and do something to them. How is he to know that I did not go to Walmart, found some cheaper strawberries and that is why I want to return them. Needless to say that when the owner all but accused me of going some where else and finding them cheaper & wanting to return these I all but lost my mind, landing some choice word bombs as I left the store. With this terrible example of customer service & product quality from the owner at the candy store counter, I can only imagine the customer service & quality one would get from the other employees in the restaurant. I won't be going back, spending my money at this store ever. read more

Love this place. We go every year around Valentine's Day and order the chocolate covered strawberries. I am a big fan of white chocolate and theirs is very good. You can stop in and just buy a nibble or a lot. Huge variety too and everything is super good. read more

We found breakfast to be incredibly expensive - especially for breakfast! We sat on the patio with our four young children and could see the ocean. It was a fun ambience. The service is so so. Lady at the counter charged me wrong. $7 came out to $37! Going through my bank to report false charge.

This candy store was next to our hotel when we were on vacation for fall break. My kids wanted some candy so we walked over from our hotel, they have a huge variety of different things in there, from candy, souvenirs, toys and even a frozen yogurt machine with different flavors. The have homemade candies. We got some taffy and other candies as well. I got a homemade chocolate peanut cluster and it was so good!! So good that my husband and I went back the next day and I got 2 of them. We also got a cup of the froyo and the that just as good. We both got vanilla. I also got a caramel apple with nuts which was just as good!! read more

Horrible. We visited late morning to get kids candy and the adults a cappuccino (since they have big letters on the side of the bldg "coffee shop") only to find out they don't serve specialty coffee before noon. When asked they told me "they have to focus on getting out breakfast orders." Funny because it was so busy you could hear a pin drop. Maybe an ok stop for candy, but I guess bc they're losing $ on the coffees, they charge a lot for their candy. read more

If I lived near this place I would probably make a daily trip. The chocolate is so good. I also love the gummy worms.

So their chocolate covered apples are delicious! But wasn't very happy with the customer service from the owners- or the absence of. I was recommended to use their store to have custom made shells for my wedding cake to be make for my wedding on April 25. I originally placed the order March 4. A owner was supposed to call me to quote me for the order. I never heard anything from anyone so on March 24/25 I spoke with Jon and asked if they could provide colored pictures of chocolate shells made in the past if he had any to make sure they were the correct colors. On March 28, I emailed Jon(manager) as well as spoke to him on the phone about decreasing the amount/changing color of shells to white and adding bubbles for the cake. He said it would be no problem and was very friendly. On April 4- I received an email stating the owners would no longer do my order because I reduced it multiple times (which in reality I only changed the size of the order once and had I known it was a big deal and they would cancel my order I wouldn't have done it). In fact, I would have even paid the same price. The email also stated to email the owners if I had any questions. I emailed the owners with no response and I even called and left a message with not only a manager, but another customer service rep to have the owner call me and no response!! The fact that I live 14.5 hours from destin Florida where my wedding will be and for them to do this without even calling me is subpar seeing as my wedding is in 12 days!! I just feel that if you are doing a customer order- beware of ordering from this company!! I have saved all the emails between myself and this company if anyone is questioning ordering from them. It's a shame because their chocolate is really good! So now I have had to order from someone online and am hoping they come not broken/melted since it is so last minute!! Way to add stress to someone's wedding!! read more

Wish I could give this a 0 star after how me and my family were treated by one of your employees. She was more interested in her phone and texting about her schedule than helping customers. Was very very rude and didn't care that she lost sales. read more

I came here with my family on our vacation because I saw it on Pinterest. Cute store but we were there for breakfast. We received some of the worst service I've ever had. First there were no waitresses to be found. Then when she finally showed up she told us to sit anywhere. There were plenty of tables to sit at but they were all filthy! She didn't bother to clean the table off for us until we were seated. We ordered and I got coffee, I asked for creamer, she never brought it out. I sat there for 10 min with no creamer and the table next to us asked me if I needed some and that that's how they had to get their own creamer too. Very disappointing as that was our last meal together before hitting the road and going our seperate ways. read more

went in and bought a candy g string.. not made very well, i lasted longer than that thing did which is pretty sad. employees were nice .

I'm reviewing their breakfast: its amazing. The orange juice tastes like a luquified orange. Instead of a plate, I got eggs, hashbrowns and Bacon, which were all cooked perfectly. My mocha coffee was so much better than Starbucks. And you really can't beat the views. Best part: the staff was so nice. Thank you! read more

"Walt Okon - CandyMaker Restaurant, Destin, Florida, 29 September 2016. We were awake early at the Silver Shells Beach Resort in Destin Florida and thinking of breakfast. The Candy Maker Restaurant, Destin, Florida is just across the street. It is just a short walk for us. The Candymaker Destin is at 1771 Scenic Highway 98, Destin Florida; but, it is on a side street. This place is soooo good it is worth the trouble to et to it. www.thecandymaker.com Yes, it is a candy and ice cream and gift shop; but it is a restaurant. It is a great/wonderful breakfast and lunch place. It is a must. Seating inside and out on the deck. Wonderful and friendly servers. They treat you like family. Our breakfast was outstanding. Service was good, no waiting for the table. Our waitress was on the spot ready to help and to serve and set up a special table for us six people. Food is home cooked and is outstanding. The waitress was very good and attentive to our needs. Restaurant and was clean and very attractive. It was decorated in a sea side wooden country style with sea gifts that are more amazing than I can describe. They have a real Wurlitzert juke box. Wurlitzer jukebox is the musical instrument, and vending machine music industries. It is the most respected popular the jukebox, and introducing the world's most iconic model--the 1015--the Wurlitzer name quickly became a widely used synonym for jukebox. The music was playing songs of the 60s and Rosie and I danced.Really liked this place. Prices were very reasonable. I strongly recommend this for a top choice. Ordered coffee came out 10 minutes later and there are only 2 other tables. No silverware and had to yell out for service to get silverware. When they brought silverware, they were 1 set short. Son wanted fruit dish - they were out. Just a bad experience. Don't know why rating is so high, yet no cars in the parking lot when others have half to full parking lots. We are 20 minutes in and still no food. Again, only 2 tables apart from ours. Talked to the manager, who was upset at me, so I asked her if she knew what the issue was, to which she replied "yeah - you don't like how the orange was cut" ... amazing. She then called the GM- he was sorry for the experience, new employees. Apart from the experience, suggestion: get at least one thing on the menu where you have bacon eggs and pancakes together... you can get pancakes and bacon, but pay for eggs extra... just make a dish and charge the $14 it would end up to be. read more
