    Our site for 3 nights.
    Cary W.

I stayed here late 2023 for a few nights for my final shakedown stay before hitting the road for 4 months and I really enjoyed my visit. I did not come in contact with Carl, owner that I know of but everyone I did interact with were great, friendly and accommodating. I was escorted to my site and even spotted to get parked then that person came back around a few minutes later to ensure my site, hookups were all good and asked it if I needed anything.. nearby shopping, food was great, easy to access. The camp store was incredible! It was well stocked and had tons of camper parts & accessories. Price was also excellent. I was not too far from fairly busy bypass/highway but that does NOT bother me at all. Neighbors were very friendly and even invited me over for a beverage and hang by the fire they had going.

    Peace out

Karl Littman is the owner of Candy Hill Campground. It is a very clean and safe place. I know it is safe because Karl runs a tight ship. If you exceed the 5 mph speed limit when entering the campground, like I did when driving in at 9 mph, one of his employees will flag you down and tell you. Yes, there is a radar gun. There are numerous cameras on the property, some you can see and some I imagine that you don't see - again, more safety measures. Once I slowly drove into the property, with all windows down and sun roof open, I held my parking pass up so it wouldn't blow out. Again, stopped and reminded to have it hung from mirror. Really. We had our RV there for six months due to working in the area. At some point, we are not sure when, the water to our camper was turned off & locked. A chain and actual lock. No notice was provided. We are usually there Monday thru Thursday. It was explained to us that they knocked on our door first before applying the lock. I'm sure they could notice the big Ram truck wasn't parked nearby - nor did anyone call. Our professional skirting was installed in October, only to be told we needed to remove it. Otherwise, Karl would report us as a primary resident of the state and we would have to pay taxes (?). We were assured it didn't get that cold - so we aren't certain if our pipes froze or if the water we were paying for was shut off. If your camper needs a mechanic, Karl only allows his friend to come in to repair your RV. He charges $125 to stop by. Karl and Co. need to work on their customer relations skills. Their tone when speaking to you is condescending and has a demeaning tone each time. No one smiles. It is an uncomfortable place to stay - but there is a strict contract, loads of men on golf carts circling the grounds, cameras and staff who are constantly curt with their comments. Cable is extra and not worth the three fuzzy channels so plan to stream. WiFi was NOT free. So much potential wasted at this place. No warm welcome or s'mores.... We won't ever return.

The campsites are well maintained neat and clean. My problem is with the bathrooms. They are in desperate need of a remodel. The showers are horrendous. The shower heads are 7 ft high and when you turn on the shower the water shoots out onto the floor outside shower area. The head is not adjustable just removable from a magnet base. I'm 5'6 and I could hardly reach it. The ceiling is being held up with duct tape. The bench they provide outside the shower is chipped paint and not something I'd sit on. For such a well maintained campground it's shocking how bad the bathroom is. Also if you bring a guest it's $10 per person which is standard but an infant is also charged $10 because of diapers and liability? Not at any other campground have I experienced that. Usually kids under 3 are free. They have a right to charge whatever but seems greedy to me to charge for a baby's feet that won't touch the ground. With all that said we go to this campground every year on our way to visit family. Hope this review motivates the owners to take a good look at the restrooms.

Candy Hill has been our 1st night out on our way to Florida from Gananoque, Ontario for years , Very well run, very clean park, washrooms, showers. Well stocked mini store. Air for tires. Dog Run very clean.

We have stayed here multiple times however never again. The staff are extremely rude and Carl, head gastapo, runs around on his golf cart not only harassing guests but has the social skills of an ape, not a welcoming feeling at all. I am not sure how this place stays in business. From the reviews they obviously have a lack of training in the field of customer service. They don't seem to realize we are PAYING to stay, not a freebee. The restrooms are horrible. Photos attached. they have not been renovated in many, many years. I stayed there 12 year ago for the first time and yes still the same grime, dirty, slippery, and tilted floors. The grounds are nice but the highway is in clear site and sound of the camp ground.

Very well maintained camp grounds. Nice facilities. Helpful staff. Has some highway noise but it is conveniently located for travel stopovers. We stay here frequently.

We found all the staff at Eagle's Nest to be very pleasant, friendly and accommodating. We had about 15 rigs, and rented one cabin. Paul placed us in sites very near each other, and close to the pavilion which perfectly met our needs for the event. The pavilion near the creek, with electricity, lighting, a nearby restroom, and running water, was a great set-up for our group meetings and meals. Paul even set up a fire ring near the pavilion for our evening campfire and music. The camp facilities were very clean and level, with full services at each site. The restaurant on site (Fireside Inn) has an extensive menu. Try the cauliflower soup ... it is FABULOUS. Eagles Nest is conveniently located near Cumberland, MD - a great local tourism spot with museums, shops, restaurants, and a scenic railroad ride. The campground is still a work in progress and we look forward to going back to see how it is coming along. Paul has a great vision for further improvements and is working hard toward that end. With a mix of seasonal and transient residents, most in self-contained units, there is little need for public facilities. Some in our group might have preferred a public bathhouse (in future development plan), but the lack of a public bathhouse would not prevent our return. Happy trails ...

This location is incredible, rich with things to do, views to see, and adventures to have with enough time. The cabins are gorgeous, fair warning that there is no television, but honestly who cares?! I had great phone signal which almost never happens on these excursions, and I loved making a fire in my fireplace and sitting on the porch with coffee for sunrise, which I could see from Cabin 11. This cabin also was at the end and felt private, even though I could see my neighbors (who had set up Christmas lights! How fun!) There's also a wonderful hiking trail right by these cabins, 10 and 11, the Red Tail Ridge, that was semi-short (2.5 miles or so if desired to create a loop with Big Oak) and had views of the river and Shenandoah valley below!

What to expect: - Dirt and gravel roads with a few potholes, but most vehicles should have no trouble getting around - Firewood is an extra charge; provided by the hosts - If you're looking to use the range, it would probably be best to have an SUV or truck with a bit more clearance and AWD - The range has a decent amount of stationary targets at varying ranges, including steel targets Bonus: We were treated by Katie the German Short-haired Pointer a couple times. So we started looking around, and ended up calling Pam way after hours. She was accommodating and had no problem with us showing up late without a reservation. This was late in the season, so we had the entire campground to ourselves. And it was beautiful. There is a bathroom on site, it's clean and well maintained. Pam also lives on the property. First, yes, the "office" is a little hippie place full of all sorts of stuff. To me, that is oddly cute. I don't know, I was always a sucker for antiques. Pam is AWESOME! Super sweet old lady who really is just chill and fun. Second, place is VERY close to a highway. As a matter of fact part of the campground is almost under a bridge and cars keep buzzing and sound gets carried throughout the entire campground. This is the main reason I'm giving it 3 stars. We looked to escape the sound of the city, and I understand some people won't mind that part. Third, we had tons of privacy. We stayed at site 22 and it was the most secluded spot, which is weird considering it is on the road to the next lots over. If there wasn't the bridge and highway part, I'd give it a definite 5 stars. The creek was a little dry, but still gorgeous. Bathrooms are ok, but could definitely be improved. There was no soap nor paper towels, so definitely make sure you have those with you. We had a wild experience Friday night with some kids not being able to control their state of toxicity, but that's not the owner's fault. You never know with college kids what they'll surprise you with. If you can get past noise of cars, this place is actually not bad at all for the price. There's always Shenandoah river you can even walk to, awesome swimming hole for summer parties, and phone still had signal (which meh, I couldn't care less about). Town is very close, so if you forgot something you can always buy.
