It's a truly excellent respite during your travels! It is extremely comforting to lay in the beds and sit in any one of the many chairs

Fairly scenic hike with fairly short and easy trails that are dog friendly. Plenty of parking that are maintained. Please keep in mind that parking is $3 a day. The road to the parking lot by the campground entrance is not built for 2 vehicles, especially if the other vehicle is a truck. You may have to back out to let them pass. There's a restroom facility should you require it. The campgrounds look really nice and well-kept, too. There's parking for lodge guests and campers as well. The trails can get rocky, so ankle-supportive and sturdy hiking boots/shoes are recommended. there are a handful of smaller trails that merge with and diverge from each other. There is a brewery down the street from it. You can grab a quick bite and drink with friends if you wanted to. The only thing I didn't appreciate was the presence of quite a bit of dog poop! Just a heads up! Plenty of people brought their dogs on their hikes with them. I didn't see anyone not clean up after their pet, but there was more that I saw compared to how much I normally see on trails. Overall, pretty good experience! I think it would be a great place for an overnight camping trip with friends or for a quick day hike.

Went for a scenic hike at Bears Den recently with extended family. We hiked to the overlook. It took about 10 minutes to get there. When we arrived we were greeted with a beautiful view of the Blue Ridge foothills. We crawled around on the rocks, took some family photos, and just chilled for a bit. Then we hiked back to the parking lot and left. Next, we went to Bear Chase restaurant nearby, which was nice.

Not far from DC about an hour and stunning views. Also a number of farm stalls and stores. We stopped at Leesburg outlets before coming here but it was not worth it, just keep going and get to Bears Den for a nature retreat. It's a stop along the Appellation trail so you may see some hikers.

One of our favorite hikes simply because of the beautiful views from the overlook and it's right next to our favorite brewery. Once you get to the top you see a panoramic view of the Shenandoah Valley and the Blue Ridge Mountains. Truly breathtaking. It's an easy hike with a clear, clean path. Post hike, we drive up the same road to Bearchase Brewery to refuel. You could walk to the brewery but the road upwards is steep and I'm usually out of energy by the time we finish. We really earned that beer! Pro tip: The parking lot is small so get there early to find a spot as it gets full pretty quickly.

Really good walking trail... lots of parking., there is not bathroom so you better hold it lol

Super easy short hike with nice views. Parking is plentiful. Near a few breweries and wineries in the Bluemont area as a nice post-hike treat. It is rocky so still wear appropriate footwear and the trail can be narrow at times so be mindful of others. One thing to note is there are lots of dogs on this trail and lots of people that are not always mindful of their dogs or have less than well-socialized dogs. So be vigilant if you bring your own pooch and be respectful of other dog owners and you should be fine even in the narrow spots.

Parking is easily accessible. The trail to arrive to the Bears Den overlook is probably a mile or so. I wasn't sure what to expect because recently I have hiked trails that are just a mile and they turn out to be extremely strenuous. Luckily the trail leading up to Bears Den is easy. The overlook is beautiful and scenic. It is popular. I went on a Sunday afternoon so I had to wait for people to finish taking pictures before I could actually approach the overlook. 4 stars.

We wanted to do a mini hike and this place was near where we were staying at. The parking is easy and suggests that you pay for more than a donation. I forgot but sent a donation of more than $3 to pay for the views that I received. The hike was light at the best, and took us maybe 5-10 minutes to get to some of the most amazing views that we had the opportunity to visit on this trip. They had other hikes but I do not think they're very long. The views are incredible and provide amazing photos. It was a little cooler in the lower 40's but it was a nice day to get out and enjoy mother nature and the weather.

This little hike has big rewards. Great parking! You don't get that often. Mostly you're either on the side of the road or nose in and having to back out into traffic, bikes and pedestrians. Short hike to the cliffs! Sure it's uphill to the cliffs but you are parking in the crest so you don't have that far to go. It's uphill but non strenuous. Take your time. Beautiful views! Lots of colors in the fall. Great place to sit and talk with your friends, have lunch or take selfies. :) It's free!! No fees like at the state and national parks. The Appalachian Trail is free and this follows the A.T for one mile. Come enjoy beautiful views on a short hike for free! Of course it's 5 stars. :)

A 9-mile out-and-back segment of the Appalachian Trail to the top of Buzzard Hill from Bears Den. * Great elevation change for that extra cross-training * Straight shot--once you find the white-blazed AT * If you're coming from DC side...tolls will add up to about $11.40 :( * $3 to park; honesty box * Not too scenic, all the same rugged, rocky trail with trees on both sides...no sign of wildlife ...oh yea...AND I COULDNT FIND THE TURN OFF that supposedly leads to the top of the hill!!! Maybe I'm just too new at this hiking thing. I'll update if/when I go again and actually find this so-called Buzzard Hill 'overlook' .... Useful Links: http://www.hikingupward.com/OVH/BuzzardHill/ http://carrieshaffer.blogspot.com/2008/06/buzzard-hill-hike.html (great depiction of the elevation change)

This trail is a very short and sweet one. Very close to the parking lot and you will get to an amazing view just by walking 0.5 miles. Good spot to stop by with friends and family, specially very easy for kids.

Bear's Den is an awesome camp site. We checked in at 5pm for 9$ each person and was able to set up the tents immediately. There is a designated bonfire place with wooden benches and picnic table available for use. They also give you free bucket of wood to start your fire the next buckets would cost u 6$ each. You can opt to not buy extra Buckets because you have the forest for resources. You can also get woods from other Camp area if other campers Have leftover woods. There's also a cabin/office where you can use if you need to go to the restroom. But take note that the office closes at 9 PM and weirdly it is close during Sunday's and will open at 5 PM. They also have a cubicle By the campgrounds that is quite filthy to use. It is like a portalet in the forest but gahd its horrible. But you can just use the forest as your natural toilet!

Bad Kids riding their bikes at night- dangerous No guide to site (would have been helpful, especially for sites that are well hidden like ours was) Closed the pool for the season at 5 on a Saturday. I appreciate them keeping it open an extra week but why it couldn't be closed later that day or Sunday morning the same way is beyond me- they had to kick out at least 10 people who were all still swimming. Cabins are in rough shape- ours had holes from carpenter bees and other things. The heater was on making the cabin 90+ degrees when we walked in. Only 1 ac unit for two bed rooms. More than half the sites were empty the entire time we stayed. No dish cleaning station, especially important for tent campers. I had to use water from a pipe that sprayed everywhere except where you needed. Every time we did dishes I was soaked. I felt like there were a lot of extra charges despite the added activity fee. Unclear which roads are one ways and which aren't. An rv almost ran me off the road when they went the wrong way down one of the roads. Long walk to bathrooms for some spots. I've been looking to stay here for a few years but couldn't justify the cost. $300 for a 2 night stay in a cabin without a bathroom. Pretty steep! So when they offered a buy one get one night, I jumped at the offer. Cabin- decent, but badly in need of upgrades. We had A TON of carpenter bees. There was a trap that was totally full. I looked at other cabins near us and none of them had traps. Ours had 2 rooms, one full of bunks and another with a standard bed. The bunk room had a window ac unit. The adult room had nothing. No fan, no unit, just a few windows. If you close the door to the bunk room, it gets SUPER HOT! I opened the window but that didn't do anything on a hot day. I found out one of the screens was just being held in place, not actually installed. Grounds- decent, but seem to be run down. Maybe due to end of season, but there were clearly lots of things in need of repair. Just play a round of mini golf and you'll see what I mean. Mosquitoes surpringly aren't a problem but gnats are the worst. The areas where they were unbearable include mini golf and the jumping pad/playground area. Think a literal face full of gnats attacking you. Traffic- no one knows which roads are two way vs one way. I'm not sure even the staff know. We were coming back to the campground and turned down a road di thought was one way. Coming right at me is a giant rv. They refused to move so I had to drive in the grass just to get by. I later checked the map and it wasn't clear one way or the other. It seems like it should do the same thing as most other campgrounds, lots of one ways with the road at the bottom dumping everyone out who wants to leave. The way things are now seemed to cause a lot of confusion (some with me but I noticed the same thing with other drivers). Would I stay again? Maybe if prices were more reasonable for cabins. I wouldn't tent camping here because they lack a lot of the basics in my opinion. It was a beautiful campground with lots of space, but could end up being quite a hike to the nearest bathroom.

Great location, amazing amenities (huge pool, game room, snack bar, camp store, coffee shop etc.),…read moreand friendly employees, but these are where the positives end. I've never stayed at a KOA/campground where the sites were so unlevel, close together, and the whole infrastructure in need of repair. The Historic trench section is nice in the trees, but the roads are crumbling and too small for most RV's. If the person across from your site is already parked, good luck having enough room to back into your site. Our site was so unlevel that I was not able to get the RV leveled the entire weekend. Looking at the surrounding sites most campers were jacked high on blocks or sloping significantly. The section of sites were on a curve/semi-circle, which caused the site beside ours to be even smaller. We had to move our picnic table to give space for this person to back his camper on the site. They were unable to get even close to level so they didn't put out their slide. There is a new section to the campground out in the open whose sites are more level, but they are even closer together than the section we stayed in. In addition to the poor sites, little enforcement was done regarding monitoring the number of people on the sites and the partying going on. A nearby site had 15+ people on Friday night partying and carrying on until 1:30AM until a fight broke out. They had a boombox on the bumper of the camper and blasted music all evening. After hours any vehicle can enter the campground as there is no gate. Cars/trucks pulled up to the party sites, who just drove in to party. I know calls were made to the office as neighboring campers stated to us. On Saturday night, the group wasn't quite as rambunctious, due to a visible presence of staff driving by, but with a campground this size, regular monitoring and shutting down of quiet hour violators should occur pre-actively. Harpers Ferry KOA could be so much more if they would invest in site upgrades and rule monitoring. We will not return.

Because of her traveling, Laurel is familiar with what makes a good hostel, and accordingly provides those perks - clean beds, free soap/shampoo/conditioner, all you can eat waffle breakfast, hang-out common area for socializing, shared kitchen, board games, and bike storage locker. There's even a world map for you to pin where you're from. (Sidebar: As you'd expect, the clientele are outdoorsy folks (hikers and bicyclers), so they're on the younger side. Which is a bit different from the Teahorse website which shows a bunch of older folks congregating together.) There are a few down sides to this hotel though, which is why I knocked the rating down a star. Beyond Laurel's control, the hostel is about a mile from Harper's Ferry and that mile is 95% steep uphill, which wasn't especially fun on a bike. (It's also technically not in Harpers Ferry but the next town over.) The price is also a bit on the steep side for a hostel. We paid ~$145 for a room (consisting of 4 bunk beds). If you're renting just a bed, you'll also pay ~$35 a person, and could possibly end up in the shared room for 8. Maybe these are Harpers Ferry prices, but I know of hostels in downtown Boston that charge about the same price. Overall though, I enjoyed my experience here.
