I called ahead to have a birthday cake made and once picked up of course my wife's name was spelled incorrectly. The quality of customer care has really gone downhill here. I wish that wasn't the case but I'll not be back. It seems like such a simple thing to double check the spelling when you write anything on a cake. It has a huge finger dent on the side, bubble on the side of it that was frosted over it- trying to cover it up. Wow, what a wonderful experience I had with this bakery in making a custom cake for a family member's going away party to join the Army. I found some pictures on the Internet of what I wanted. After discussing it with them, they said they could do everything that I requested, including a camouflage colored cake batter for the inside, which basically was a marble cake(chocolate, and vanilla,), and adding a color of green. The cake was beautiful, inside and outside and It tasted delicious and our new recruit loved it, especially the camo filling. And it was half the price of what I was quoted from another bakery. I haven't tried any of their products yet, but thought I would include some information about this store in a review. The big seller is their cakes and designs. I was in there for less than 10 minutes and saw 3 parties picking up huge, ostentatious cakes. They were beautiful. However, I also witnessed some awkward back and forth over payment and possibly whether designs were followed. I'm sure it was resolved, but I'm not positive since the entire situation made me uncomfortable and I moved out of earshot to give them privacy. The second biggest draw would be their chocolate selection, I saw a ton of truffles, quite a few clusters and a couple of fudges. They all looked delicious! Unfortunately, I skimmed all 3 cases and couldn't find any listed prices, only the name of the chocolate. Third, they have a wall of candy. I didn't take that close of a look but it looked like a mix of hard candy and chocolate covered candy. I also saw a freezer with some pies, pie slices and cupcakes. On one of the counters there was a tiny box display with maybe 4 types of cookies. I stopped by looking for something specific. It's okay that they didn't have it, but I was there for almost 10 minutes because it was so chaotic, just waiting to talk to someone. There were at least 8 other customers there and maybe 3 employees and there seemed to be more than one argument or awkward conversation going on. There was no set line, people were everywhere, and there wasn't anyone greeting customers as they arrived. This was a Saturday between 11am and 12pm. I normally would have made several purchases despite not finding what I was looking for, but I did not this time. As far as I could tell, there was only one register and several parties ahead of me, so I didn't particularly want to invest more time. If I'm being honest though, it came down to the fact that the service (chaotic entry, lack of greeting, overheard conversations) made me uncomfortable and I prefer to shop at places that are more transparent with their prices. I don't have enough good things to say about Candy Haven! We got our wedding cake from them and we're blown away!! They were so kind and accommodating and were extremely helpful and responsive. Our cake tasting was better than all the others we went on and the staff was so easy to work with. Both the brides came and grooms cake were beautiful and delicious! We had so many compliments and there wasn't even one extra slice at the end of the night! We live in Dallas but will be making the drive to Denton the next time we need a cake! We came here to check out their chocolate and candy selection. They have a pretty impressive variety of handmade types of chocolate, walnut clusters and similar and different types of fudge mixes. I was hoping they would have more than original and pecan fudge. They had a decent selection of hand picked candy as well. It's also nice that it's right next to Colache Haven and you can walk right through it without having to go outside. Their forte seems to be their cakes, we may need to try one of their cakes next time and figure out how good their cakes are. They are not cheap but the good bakeries rarely are. read more

Cake: Pretty good. Not great, but still, it was good and guests liked it. Expertise: They got the design wrong. Emailed them a picture...and they still got it wrong. How does that happen when all the guesswork was taken out...all they had to do was...LOOK. Price: ~$85. Net: I went with a proper bakery for the exact reason that they'd simply just get it right. I was wrong. I'll still use a proper bakery next time, just not this one. Experience / Details: Leave yourself enough buffer time for them to fix it because simple apparently was difficult for them. When picking up, the first person brought the cake over and showed it to me and the disappointment set in. She didn't offer to try and make it right by fixing it but instead offered two reasons: 1) "Well, we have some new people working here soooo", and 2) "I'm sorry, but it still looks good". I almost did a head tilt with The Rock's eye-raise but refrained. Asked if they can at least lower the price for simply getting it wrong to which her reply: "No, sorry, can't do that". So I said that I'll just leave a review of it...no reply from her, and didn't expect one. So I paid and on the way out, there was a baker(owner?) that had walked up to the front desk area as I'm heading out and she said something like: Hope you enjoy it! I took the opportunity to share that it was done wrong. She was apologetic and said she can TRY to fix it but I also didn't have hours to wait or come back for it so I was stuck.
