I found candy that I have not seen since childhood or since being in Europe, Cadbury makes wonderful candies that we just don't get in the states often. Bring your kids, and their college fund! I have never left without spending less than $20. I still have yet to get my first cavity if that helps explain how little you get for the money. read more

This is candy galore and candy heaven! They have buckets of all these taffy (although I'm not a big fan) but they do have some serious candy variety here....with those insects in lollypop thingy to chocolates to Tootsie rolls and most candy by weight. Love this store! I have been coming here for years and years and years. The variety of salt water taffy is amazing and all of the old school candy, jawbreakers, collectible candies and everything in between, is enough to get your head spinning. The prices are not too bad here, but you will pay more than usual, as is expected. On my last trip I got maple bacon taffy! It was really good and I got birthday cake m&ms which were really sweet and delicious. I picked up a huge jaw breaker for 1.99 for my dad and I got triple chocolate malt balls. This is a great place to go, they have all the old skool candy I miss from when I was a kid. Most notably, Flicks. Shocking, they are kinda like Hersheys kisses, but bigger and come in a cardboard tube. I bought some, and unless the formula's changed, blech. I guess I didn't know any better. I love this candy store and my husband and I always stop in here whenever we are in Laguna. We always walk there, as parking anywhere in Laguna is just ridiculous, both finding and paying for it. Yes, the candy prices are a bit expensive, but rent is probably insane, and they do carry some obscure things, and for me, I am fine with the price point. I usually have to rein in my husband, who could easily blow $50 on saltwater taffy. We usually get a couple of flavors of sour belts, malt balls, little jawbreakers, taffies, and caramels. They also sell these obscure French mints that my husband loves-they are hard mints with a hint of anise, and a flower seed in the center (violet, rose, etc). Once you are inside, you will see so much candy it is a little insane. To the left front are the sugar free goodies, the rest of the front is dedicated to saltwater taffies of all kinds of flavors. In the center are the more kitschy candies (Nintendo themed, retro tins, etc), malt balls, jawbreakers, and American candies (Hersey's Kisses, Reese's, etc). In the back are the over the top Pez despensers, nostalgic candies, Altoids, and import candies. At the register itself (in the center of the store) are the insect candies, which gross me out and should be across from the register so I don't have to look at it as I check out. My biggest thing is that the aisles are a bit narrow, which makes me nervous (I can be clumsy) and I dread being that person that accidentally knocks my basket into something that dumps candy all over the floor. Change those two things and I'd say it's 5 star! read more

I love Candy Baron. SOOOO MUCH candy!! Pricey too. Always get "Chuckles" and cinnabears. Love their gummy sharks too. They have barrels and barrels of different flavored taffy. Saw a giant gummibear..but I think it was $8 lol. Lots of old school candy here... wish it was closer to my house. read more

This candy store is sooooooooooooo much fun! As you can imagine, it's full of C-A-N-D-Y!!!!!!!!!!!!! You can find all or almost all the candies (from the past to current) that you want. I kept hearing customers excitingly shouting comment such as "OMG I had this candy when I was in elementary school!" It's literally memory lane for many customers. I wouldn't say the candies are the cheapest here (some are .75 ea) but perhaps sometime the value of reminiscence can be much greater than the physical price. read more

Service was very poor. The selection of chocolates are very limited. It is mostly just name brand candy bars. Price is higher than you would expect to pay for that type of Taffy. Now that I have sampled all the types of candy I purchased, a warning on the lack of freshness. The "ice cubes" on the counter next to the checkout are old and taste terrible. It's a very attractive store with some definite sticker shock at the check-out. My 1-pound basket of Dubble Bubble and Lemonheads came to almost $13. Toto, we are not at Walmart anymore! Now I know why they don't list prices anywhere. With its nostalgic trimmings, the Candy Baron would be a very good fit on Main Street USA in Disneyland, plus you get touristy overcharging. We went in there after dinner last night to buy taffy and the man working in there yelled at us when a piece of taffy fell out of the barrel onto the floor. He seriously was the rudest man I have ever encountered in a retail store. When he sneered again and grumbled at us ( his fault for overstocking the taffy in the first place), we put down our basket of candy, told him we were leaving, called him rude and left. What a grinch. All the customers in the store left as well. Too bad. Used to love this place. We went to the Rocky Mountain chocolate factory around the corner and bought delicious candy from a happy man. read more

The novelty of this candy store is great- takes you back to the olden days. Sadly once the novelty wore off and reality set in, this place is not as sweet as the candy it sells. I don't write reviews but this one deserves it. This is not your kid in a candy store shop ! My wife and I vacationing in Cali always stop by this store while in Laguna Beach. This time around we wanted to treat and take our three kids ( well behaved 3 and 4 year olds). While my wife and two kids were picking their candy, they were approached by (who I now call the Candy Baron in a negative way) and snapped at my wife opening lids and dropping candy (that was mounted so high you couldn't help it). As I walked into the store with my third son I noticed she was distraught. I asked her what was wrong and she told me she was being watched and followed by the Latin speaking man working at the shop. As she paid for candy my two kids wanted my third kid picked his choice of candy. As we were standing by the counter the man again snapped and said to us "you have to pay for that". By then I had to step in and confront his accusation. I asked him what his problem was and his response was that he worked their. I told him I respected that but what makes you think we are not paying for the candy. If it were for the fact that my kids wanted candy I would have thrown the candy on the counter and walked out. Never will we go back there. I'll throw my money elsewhere, not here. read more

PLEASE CHECK EXPIRATION DATES ON CANDY!!!! We visit Laguna frequently from Las Vegas and we loved going to this place with the original owners. But, they sold it to new owners. I have been in there numerous times and his candy has been expired. Not by a month but by years. I have actually went through boxes of their candy looking for good ones and they were all expired. (Normally these chocolates are in the area that sell the over seas candy from England). I have given the candies to the owner and politely told them they were expired. I was disgusted to see him put them back out when I was walking out. I even went back and questioned why he did that...seriously he didn't even answer me! I will NEVER go back there. It has been 3 times I've tried this place with the new owner and have found old candy. To be honest I only stop in to look for old candy so that I can question him about it. He and she do not care...really they don't. The woman owner shhh'd me when I told her there was a whole box of expired candy on her shelf. They know, and they don't care!! If the chocolates are expired.....you can BET that taffy is. Beware, don't get sick because of the nostalgic atmosphere. It isn't worth it!!!! read more

This is a candy store for the upper class, as if you already didn't know given its touristy location...Just off the boardwalk on pacific coast highway in laguna beach this candy store seems small from the outside but digs deep into the structure its placed. I give this candy store a 4 star rating due to its vast selection of candies. More than likely when you visit you will find candy you can't find most anywhere else and candy you forgot even existed! I also say for people of upper class because this candy store can be very pricey; they do a lot of their pricing based on weight. Just depends on the packaging. Candy Baron is very original and unlike most candy stores that are say in a mall, this candy store makes me feel 'like a kid in a candy store'! Anything from coke bottles which are a soft candy to a whole isle of pez dispensers! I also like the rock candy, They have rock candy of multiple flavors on sticks, but i like the rock candy that comes in their prepackaged bags. Just be careful taking it home because if you get pulled over the police will probably think its crystal meth! Really good stuff though! Don't blink or you might miss this place... but once you enter you'll be so glad you didn't miss it! There are barrels and barrels of all sorts of taffy (I spent 36 dollars on taffy to take home to my mom who can't get out and do these sorts of things) and the entire back end of the store houses all sorts of delicious treats. I walked into this place thinking wow this is heaven!! Until I saw this really cool candy it's called " Bacon Balls " I thought it was funny so I took a picture. One of the workers was passing by me ( a guy ) and was so rude he said NO TAKING PICTURES OF THE CANDY!! He totally shoved me and took the whole box of candy and put it in the back. My daughter was there with me and she's only 6 so she got a little scared so she started to cry.... We complained to the manager and she didn't even care.
